The TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface adds S/PDIF digital I/O while maintaining the same easy functionality as TASCAM's US-122L. The US-144 interface facilitates recording 2 tracks at a time while offering zero-latency monitoring, high-quality mic inputs, better-than-CD-quality 24-bit/96kHz recording, and MIDI I/O. The US-144 also has a headphone jack with level control and a redesigned aluminum case. TASCAM includes Cubase LE4 software with the US-144 USB Audio/MIDI interface.

I bought this back in late 08', and was looking forward to using it. It worked great for a few months. I was really happy with it's performance, up until it started giving me random snaps, crackles, and pops, and eventually started dropping me out while recording. It was extremely annoying. It just got worse and worse as time went on. It's unusable now.. And neither GC or TASCAM can do anything about it. Big waste of money, in my opinion.
I purchased this unit after being told by a Tascam rep that it would be fine with Windows 7. Well, I can't blame a guy for trying to make a sell, but, it does NOT work with Windows 7. I originally liked it simply because the layout of it suited me. However, since Tascam has not developed the drivers to allow it to work with Windows 7, they don't even estimated release date, I purchase the M-Audio Fast Track Pro. It seems to be one of the few products that does work with Windows 7.
Was building my first studio back in 08' so I was very new to it all. I have to lower the volume on my beats and vocals to prevent really annoying popping from coming out of my monitors. I was also not happy with the interface not having 1/4" connection for the monitors. It only has the RCA cables(unbalanced) port. Also will stop working randomly with my Logic Express and I will have to restart the computer to get it working again. I am very disappointed and shopping around for a better one.
I've had mine for about a year and have had no trouble. I use it with windows 7 and there are no problems. To the guy that says he has to turn things down, think about other things that may have caused thed problem.
