I must say, this is one fine piece of equipment! This was my first recording device (except of course a cassette recorder placed in front of my amp). I didn?t know much about it, but I took a chance. I thought it was going to be a hunk of plastic. In fact, it is a very solid, heavy-duty device. I hooked it up rather quickly and with ease. I directly recorded my guitar through my Digi-tech Grunge pedal. I was using Monster cables and my Jackson DXMG with HZ pickups. Needless to say, I was blown away by the sound quality! It sounded as good as live. Though I had read other reviews saying it wasn?t too good. It came with Cubase LE digital recording software. It?s pretty cool. It has all of the basic features and editor has including the ability to add effects like gain and flanger effect. One cool aspect about the software was the ?pitch shift? tool. This made harmonizing guitar leads quick and easy. But, you only get 20 free song exports. After that, you?ll have to pay a mere 10 bucks to have unlimited on the Cubase site. Just make sure to download the online US-122 manual. All in all, it?s a great start recording device. I am sure young and old musicians alike will be more than satisfied with this Tascam Treasure!

Having owned this unit for over a year, I would not buy this again! With USB 1.1 it's a choker! It cannot process necessary sounds from my recordings without dropping out. Save a little more money and at least go with a USB 2 or firewire interface.

Great Price, Better Value

By AcousticKevin

from Middletown, MD

When I began putting lyrics to music, I needed something to get the ideas from my notebook, to my computer and most importantly, to my audience! Ive been writing music for years, but never had the means to record my tracks. I started off using my pc microphone, I decided to step it up. I purchased the Tascam US-122. I was a little over whelmed at first, but once you get the hang of it, its cake. Not to mention the sound quality comes out great. I record all acoustic tracks, I recomend using a Mic over plugging in for acoustic tracks.

TASCAM US-122

By SpiritOfRadio7k7

Me and my friend were starting to get serious with our music, and wanted a way to record, edit, and mix our stuff. The Tascam Us-122 was the perfect device for us to do just that. Its designed well, and is easy to learn how to use. It has multiple inputs, which is great for drums. We've used six mics all at once when recording a live jam session, and it held its own. Its affordable, practical, and just an overal great interface.

Great Value for a basic input device

By MaQleod

from Roseville, Ca

I purchased the tascam us-122 a year ago and have had a great time using it. It's very easy to install and the layout makes it very intuitive to use. Though it has very simple functionality and very few inputs/outputs, for most purposes it will do everything recording devices of twice the price will do. It can even be used with linux via the ALSA USX2Y driver.

Unbelievable!!

By hmiklw

from Philadelphia PA

I got this as a gift a few years ago. It was my first interface. I've recorded my band on several occasions and I loved the included cubasis software that I just had to get my hands on a copy of Cubase LE. When I did I realized that the cubasis software was nothing like the full version and is not reccomended. The only are that there are only 2 instrument inputs. I had to use a separate mixer to get the inouts I needed to record the drums. One of the knobs also fell off but it snapped right back on.

A great laptop tool

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

I bought the tascam unit in order to use my laptop as a portable unit for scratch recordings. The unit is an amazing value for the price. The unit has phantom power and the mic inputs seem very sturdy. The knobs are easy to use which is a great bounus for a guy with big fingers. The unit was easy to hook up and use (I did not have a single issue with my PC). The unit records at a very high quality and the unit is small and easy to transport. I can not say enough good things about this unit.

It's A Good Starter

By Tim

from Huntington Beach, Ca

This is a pretty descent recording system once you figure it out though. Unfortunately the manual does't explain at all how to use it, but luckly i had someone that figured it out for me. But I would recomend this for people who are starting off.

Good for the money

By Sokabs

from Outside of Chicago

The TASCAM US-122 is a good USB Audio/MIDI interface device with a lot of nice features. I have had mine for just about 3 years and it's still going strong. Some of the features I like most about this unit are: phantom power, direct monitoring, and all the input and output jacks. The sound quality is good (but not excellent), and is very hard to beat at this price. You will definitely want to take advantage of the phantom power and direct monitoring. The US-122 is not without it's negatives, though. As already stated, the sound is "good," but I have experienced some pops and crackles that make this device not recommended for real professional use. The major negative issue with this device is the included GigaStudio software. This software is just bad, and is not recommended. I suggest using the device with a separate application. I personally use it with Cakewalk Sonar and Apple's Logic Express. If you're looking for an intro level USB interface, consider this one. I'd buy it again.

Not that bad

By fitz66

from Fairfield, CT

I think that if you just starting to record and dont have much money this is deffinetly the product to buy. I really don't know what the other guys are talking about with it droping out haven't experienced it much but i will say if you're in a band and don;t want to do a bunch of layering this is not for you. But if you just starting out it is perfect.
