I purchased this and I really like it. Slowing down the songs definitely helps you hear every note that is being played. This product also features a looping device that is really cool for figuring out a particular section of a song. If you want to use your Ipod songs on this unit you have to convert the files to a wav. file. Itunes has a built in convertor so you do not have to buy the program but it is a little tricky. To convert your Ipod songs go to the Itunes in the title select edit then click on preferences and click on the general tab and click the box import settings and in the import using menu select Wav Encoder then click on your song in a playlist and select advanced up to and click on the create wav version then it will put that file copy the file to a wav version so you can import it to your Tascam unit. Also, songs you purchased on I tunes will not let you convert just ones you copied from a cd.

I agree with most of the favorable comments about portability, convenience, but, besides the lack of a backlight (just stupid!) I am not at all impressed with the MP3 playback on this unit. No one has yet mentioned that the MP3 playback has undefeatable voice-cancelling processing which virtually eliminates center tracks in the MP3 mix. Try Skynyrd's "I know A Little" and you'll hear that some of the centered solo parts are also eliminated. Guess what also happens to (commonly) centered bass lines! This really cheapens the quality of the MP3 playback and it gets worse when the speed is reduced. Compared to a program like BestPractice, the playback is decidedly inferior. Still, it is usable, compact & portable, convenient, and easy to use. I'm just disappointed at the imposed lack of fidelity (it would have been a great option to toggle on/off) by the voice-cencelling processing---especially from Tascam, a company noted for recording fidelity. The fact that the voice-cancelling is not mentioned anywhere on the box, in the manual, or in advertising, also irks the consumer in me. If the voice-cancelling feature would have been an on/off option and it would have been mentioned/advertised, I would give the unit 5 stars. I'm glad I also purchased a Vox Amplug for times when I need the vocals or the fidelity.

Excellent training tool!

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

The GP-10 is a nice size. It works great for training with speed and key control. Lots of nice features. I would have rated it 5 stars except the instructions are some what confusing. It would be much easier to learn with a simple flow chart guild. The second issue is the fact that you can't use a USB hub, neither external or internal, to download files. It Must be connected directly to a USB port or you will get error messages. I like that you may download mp3 and/or WAV files and you can create separate folders for your files Folders may also be renamed as you wish. However, folders can only stack 2 deep. The SD card can be loaded directly to the GP-10 or removed and managed in a PC card slot. It will accept up to 32GB SD cards for very large file space. Another great feature, the GP-10 may be powered using 2 AA batteries, AC power converter or USB port. Overall, it's a great unit at a good price. GC shipping is fast!!

Pros & Cons

By STANLEY BOREK

from Philly area (PA)

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

Pros: Good sound, good features, tuner works well, more-than-adequate memory expansion/storage, decent battery life, straight-forward Plug-n-Play USB features, does what it was designed for rather well. I havent used the recording feature. Cons: BIG ONE and very irritating: No backlight! No excuse for this in a unit of this price. If I lost the unit, I would replace it. If the next version came with a backlight, I would buy a second one.

Great Product.....BUT

By Danny Bell

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

I bought the unit in May 2012. I only used it about once a week and in March 2013 the volume control quit working. I had purchased an extended warranty for $24.99. I gave them a call, they emailed a RMA label and I had a gift card to replace the unit within 10 days. Warranty is definitely worth paying for!

Great Upgrade on a Great Product

By David Courtemanche

from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

I have used the old Cd based version of the bass trainer for years to learn songs. For Christmas I received the current MP3 based version. Wow! They took a product I loved and upgraded it in so many ways. First off, once you have loaded up your songs (very easy, by the way) it is so much easier to practice without having to switch between multiple CDs to work through your whole set list. The interface is much simpler to understand, with dedicated buttons versus the old scrolling method. I really just glanced at the instructions, most of the steps (changing the key and setting up loops, for instance) are so intuitive the instruction book is not needed. I haven't even used the new features like recording yet, but they will be useful, I am sure. Finally the reduced size makes it so much easier to carry around. This is a must have for anyone who needs to practice silently or who has a lot of songs to learn.

Great Product!

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

I recently ordered the TASCAM GB-10 and this is a great product! The GB-10 has tons of features and is an excellent tool for learning phrases and riffs. The effects and amp modeling offers a lot of options and great sound from a little electronic device. The ability to over-dub and manage files via SD card is a plus. Looping function is responsive and easy to use. Overall, interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. Highly recommended!

Just what I was looking for

By Steve Woerner

from Terre Haute, Indiana

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

I am a solo guitar player and I was looking for a unit that would play backing tracks with hands free operation. This was the only unit I could find that would operate with a footswitch. The footswitch operates on batteries, I would prefer AC power. You can play, stop, FF, and Rewind with the footswitch. When you FF and Rewind you have to listen to the music, which is just noise. I would prefer that it be muted but you can do that yourself by turning the volume down. I would also prefer that you could skip songs with the footswitch but it won't allow you to do that. You have to do that manually with the main unit. The SD card holds plenty of music, I loaded 34 mp3 files and it barely put a dent in the memory. The card is loaded from inside the battery compartment and is a little hard to get to. Loading music on the card was simple using a card reader. I was able to convert my wav. files to mp3's using itunes. Then it was just a drag and drop procedure to load them. If you want to load a play list you have to number each file, otherwise they get jumbled when loaded. You can change your playlist within the system but it only lets you start at a different song. You can't move songs around once they've been loaded. You can create folders to separate your music into subfiles. It's very easy. I bought extra SD cards to separate all my music and just change cards for different genres and recording. If you are using the GB10 to learn songs, it will allow you to slow the music down. It doesn't slow it down a lot but probably enough. You can change keys with just a push of a button. It will change a half step up or down, with each push, and is remarkably clean. A half step down is just right for my vocals with a lot of my music. I haven't tried recording yet, but I didn't buy it for recording. I plan on mounting it on my mic boom with velcro. It would be nice if Tascam would make a factory mount for it. I bought mine with the AC adapter and footswitch and got a package deal. All and all, the positives outweigh the negatives and I am very happy with the unit. I think it is going to be perfect for what I want. I have my playlist loaded and the footswitch with my pedal board. All I have to do is hit the pedal and play along, it's great. Thanks to Tascam I don't have to deal with trying to keep a band together.

Easy to use, Sound is great.

By Dave Buettner

from Campbell Ca

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

I bought this on sale with a coupon so the price was right. I had thought of getting the bt-2 but tried this and I'm glad I did. I had a 9 song file on this in about 3 min. Plugged it into my stereo and bass and an hour later I have 3 songs figured out. Anyone who has used the other trainer products will notice the improved controls and the lack of bass or guitar muting. However, I had no problem identifying the bass lines in the songs I'm working on. By the way, this sounded awesome through my stereo. Bass for days and very clear. The effects are noisy and well, not important to me. If there a consideration for you try it out at a store first. Haven't tried my Les Paul yet,I bet it works just as nice as with bass. Maybe the effects will appeal to me with the guitar. I haven't read the directions yet and have been able to use every feature on this in record time, about an hour or so. (very intuitive layout) Enjoy.....

Guitar and bass trainer/recorder together

By Alfred "B.L." Whitehead

from Rockwood, TN

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

This is my fourth Tascam trainer. I use them mainly as headphone amps and they are truly excellent at that. Small and compact, I take them outside on the deck and it's me, the guitar/bass and a cup of coffee to while away an hour or two. This new GT-10 model replaces my guitar trainer and my bass trainer by combining them both into one device and it also includes recording functions. I can record my "sessions" and then play it back and truly hear both the good and the bad parts. The amp and effect choices are adequate and the sound is great. Just get a decent set of headphones, the GT-10, your instrument and a good cuppa coffee and you're good to go!!

Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

Purchased one the other day, and am pleasently suprised. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the documentation. Skip the quick start, and go directly to the detailed operation. Only took a couple of hours to get completely comfortable with all features. Still holding a full charge after a few hours of use, which is encouraging. The balance feature works well to control the volume balance of the audio and guitar. Nice size and very portable. Good sound, volume, and tone.
