The TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder brings high-resolution recording to a compact, affordable package. It offers up to 96kHz/24-bit WAV or MP3 recording to SD cards, and recordings can be transferred to your computer through high-speed USB 2.0.

A dual recording feature has two modes. Mode 1 records a copy of your audio at a lower level, so if the level suddenly jumps you have a backup instead of a distorted performance. Mode 2 records two separate stereo tracks at once, one from the built-in mics and a second from an external mic or from the line in, which could be a send from your mixing board or any other line-level stereo source. The resulting stereo tracks can be mixed together on the DR-2d or imported into your DAW for further editing.

Record using the new built-in condenser microphones or plug in your own. You can slow down recordings without changing the pitch, and there's even a metronome and built-in speaker. The DR-2d provides hours of recording time using a pair of AA batteries, making it the perfect partner for songwriting, live performance, rehearsal or home studio recording.

    Great little Tool

    By Dave Stanfill

    from Manchester, NH

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

I bought this thing recently to record some sessions with our band and it has been awesome. Lots of options but most importantly, it's reliable. None of this "did it record?" or "I wish I remember how that one song went". I will advise to buy the power adapter. Batteries work but don't last that long. Very easy to use, easy to get onto iTunes/burn copies for the jerks in the band that didn't put in on this. Buy It!! You will be glad you did. Only complaint would be the batteries.

    Adequate tool for practice only

    By William Mylar

    from Sacramento, CA

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

I purchased this product hoping to replace my mini-disc for recording live shows. I was attracted to the features and the price. I think this is a good product for songwriting/rehearsal, but not for live performances. I believe the product should be sold or should come with the power adapter. Batteries are only good for a couple of hours and the power adapter must be ordered from the store or on-line. The mp3 recording feature produced a ۡ̏wateryۡݕ_ sound and was not acceptable at all. While .wav files were very clean, the embedded mic picks up everything, including crowd noise. No setting allowed me to filter that. An external mic may be a better way to go, but I did not try this alternative. In order to hold more music, I replaced the 2GB memory card with a larger one. The recording time display still showed the same maximum recording times as the 2GB card, even though the file size displayed the additional storage capacity. It didnۡt matter anyway, because without a power adapter, the device will not record any longer than the batteries will hold out. I used brand new batteries and still got a battery low message after the 1st set, which was a little over 1 hour and 45 minutes. Pluses ۡ easy to work with and understand, good .wav sound with the maximum bit rate, but only in a quiet studio setting, easy file transfer to PC, and the display is easy to read. I returned the item, however, because the device was not any better than the mini-disc I had hoped to replace for live performance recording. Guitar Center staff was very helpful and courteous with return policy.

    Handy Recording Tool

    By Ray Figueroa

    from Fremont, CA

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

Although my order was not delivered on time, when it did arrive I took it out of the box and started using it right away, sound quality was very good and easy to use. I haven't used all the features yet but intend to soon. Took the recorder to several live gigs outside and was surprised at the quality of the recording. I would recommend purchasing the power adapter, batteries don't last long.

    Good Deal

    By Alan in Kent WA

    from Kent WA

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

I use it for mixdown from analog tape. The better the resoution the better, and 24 bit 96K is fab. I also use it to experiment with mp3 at different resolutions. The size lets me listen to me when I do my workout. For the money, I would have been stupid not to buy this. It does go through batteries. The power supply works perfectly.

    Everyone one should have one!

    By Ricky

    from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

Anyone that is trying to learn Pro Tools, stop what your doing and buy this machine! There is no way you can get a better sound from Pro Tools than the DR-2D. Yes a professional at Pro Tools can make a great record, but anybody using Pro Tools to record demo will end up with a worse sound, than using the DR-2D. This machine really records such a great tone, and load into itunes in seconds. Save up and get one!

Very Good Sound but Terrible Battery Life

    By dan newso

    from columbus, ga

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

this probably has the most features for the money than anything else on the market. wireless remote is incredible for drummers ar anyone else for that matter. but i hope you have stock in a battery factory because average battery life recording at 24 bit is about 30-40 minutes. you will never need more than a 1 gig card for this unit because there is no way to fill that up on one set of batteries. that kinda defeats the purpose of this being a field recorder. i sent it back and got the Sony pcm-m10 and couldn't be happier. it has been running for nearly 2 weeks and i havent changed the batteries yet. and it sounds better.

Tascam DR-2d Best of the Best

    By John A

    from PA

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

The Sony M10 has long been consideered the top of the pile of portable recorders. Well, it's time for Sony to step aside. The Tascam does everything as well or better than the Sony M10. Here are the features that raise the bar in portable recorders; 1. The built in mics are cardioid, much more useful the Omni's used in the competition. 2. Overdubbing - You can import or record a backup track and then add you voice or instrument to the mix. It does not overwrite the original track, it creates a new track containing the backup and the added voice. 3. Reverb - You can apply several varieties of reverb to either the input or playback. They are good sounding reverbs. 4. Dual recording - This thing can record 2 stereo tracks resulting in 4 mono channels. And you have several options; A - Dual Record Line - For instance you plug you bands sound board into the DR-2d's "line in" input and use your internal mics or external mics to record the room sound for ambiance. You will end up with 2 stereo tracks on from the sound board the other from your mics. Or, if your a singer you can record your backing track from a cd player on "line in" while singing into your internal or external mic for a very high quality dual stereo track containing your backing track and vocal. B - Dual -6db or -12db You can autmatically record a duplicate track at a lower level. If you don't know what the max recording level will be, you can protect yourself from clipping by recording a safety track at -6 or -12db. c - Mix - Line and mic stereo inputs are mixed together to make one stereo track. Great features and build quality from Tascam. Battery life is about 6 hrs with the latest firmware. Sound quality is great. J
