A nice digital recorder. I don't agree with the previous review - the clipping can easily be managed by setting the mic sensitivity (there are 3 settings: low, high and manual). Whenever clipping is an issue, these can be toggled - proper placement of the device is also a factor. DRAINS BATTERY. Looks like you can squeeze 1-2 days out of a pair of AAA batteries with a moderate amount of recording. Battery life renders the DR-08 more useful for field recordings vs. rehearsal recordings (i.e. used in short bursts vs. extended periods of time). Speaker is WEAK. But sound quality is AWESOME. Easy to drag into your DAW and manipulate. Very happy with this purchase and highly reccomend it.
Bought this last week to record rehearsal. Sound Quality was so-so. We are a rock band and it was near impossible to avoid clipping. The big problem was battery life! Sure it will record a high bit rate, but it drained fresh batteries in 25 minutes. There is no way to use AC, so its pretty useless, unless yo want to stop to change batteries every 1/2 hour. The 2 Gig RAM will record anywhere from 1 to 14+ hours of music depending on quality, but it would use up to 28 AAA batteries in the process. Im returning it tonight.
Since I received this birthday gift from my wife, I've dragged this little miracle all over Barcelona, the Mediterranean, New York City, and Delaware. The sound quality is absolutely amazing, and I've never had any issues with battery life. The low & high cut filters are useful, the EQ boosts are fun, but mainly this this is the most intuitive field recorder I've ever used, with no compromise in quality or options. Excellent product.
Where to start? This is my first day with the DR-08. I brought it for sound sampling and special effects recording. Definitely good sound quality, but a bit too touchy (I can hear myself holding the DR-08 when recording). Cons: rear speaker is very weak, DR-08 feels weak and flimsy, and no rechargeable battery pack (Guess I'll have to get some rechargeable batteries! LOL!!). Pros: good sound quality, easy-to-use, small, and very light. Overall, for the price paid, I think this is a good product that can use some improvement. The DR-08 did not exceed my expectations but was not disappointing for me either. Hope this helps!
I just got my Tascam 08 recorder, and the first thing that I noticed was that the microphones seem too delicate, I can see that they can easily break it you accidentally drop it, and I definitely wouldn't try to carry it in my pocket, or put it in a bag where other things might break the microphones. I looked all over the net and in different mobile device stores and I couldn't find any protective case that would make it fit nicely, so that mekes it not so effective as compact and portable. Also the text on the screen is so tiny that makes it very difficult to read the menus, my eyes are not so bad and I had to really focus my eyes to be able to read the menus, and so far three of my friends that wanted to check it out complained of not being able to read the text cuz it is too tiny. Sound quality is really good, but it catches a lot of the handling noise so it is best not to hold it when you are recording. It is not possible to use a tripod with it. battery life is really low, but I love the fact that you can power it with a usb power adapter. In general I like it, but I will most likely return it and get a DR-40, I think it's worth to pay the extra money.
Just bought this and the recording quality is very good for the price. If you're only going to use this sitting in front of a table, you'll be okay. You cannot use it holding it in your hand, because it picks up EVERY movement. There is no mic stand adapter available for it. Major oversight.
