Overview

TASCAM's DP-02CF Digital Portastudio has enough recording power to let you create a full production at 16-bit/44.1kHz CD quality. The DP-02CF combines 8-track CD-quality recording with a Portastudio interface.

The DP-03CF Portastudio's one-button-per function design is for musicians who want to record quickly and have fun! First, record your stereo drum machine using its 2-track simultaneous recording, and then use the line inputs to record bass and layer guitar parts. A song position bar/beat display makes it easy to overdub. Or, if you're going the straight acoustic route (no drums), use the internal metronome to keep time.

Next, use the low-cut filter, two-band EQ, and pan controls to make sonic space for your vocals, which you can record with a high-quality condenser mic thanks to a pair of matched TASCAM preamps with XLR inputs and phantom power. There's also an EQ frequency button for finer control over the mix.

When you're happy with your tracks (and you should be happy with a DP-02), mix down to a dedicated stereo master track and save your final mixes to an included 1GB CompactFlash card (The DP-02 records two channels at a time to the card).

Finally, you can transfer your tracks and mixes or backup your song to a computer through a speedy USB 2.0 connection for MP3 encoding or CD burning from your Mac or PC. Let the fun begin!

That's right! You too can flip your hari to one side and record your own meaningless emotions that truly have an impact to your ex-girlfriend or mom! But in all seriousness, that's what this is great for. If you're looking to hang out in your room and overlay tracks to make yourself into a whole band, this is for you. It's a great device and does a lot for how much it is. I love it personally and am constantly using this to make up stuff or remember riffs. It's a great piece of equipment. It's a little annoying at times because you have to save tracks into certain areas or copy them just to do another thing. Annoying but do-able. If you can swing it, go with the big brother model. More money but more features. Rock on you indie kids. Rock on.

I enjoyed yrs of recording pleasure with Porta Studio. Made the mistake of buying blemished. No box or directions. Even ones printed in China might be nice. Almost didn't come w/ pwr supply. At least GC was kind enough to throw one in. No extra charge. Like the other unhappy camper this DP-02CF will be returned asap.

Great Little Machine

By JEFF TRIBBY

from Lakeland, FL

I noticed with interest and some amusement that some reviewers complained about the 1-gig card that came with the recorder. Here's a "Doh!" moment for you. I got a 4-gig card, simple as that - problem solved. It's a great machine, and eight tracks gives me more than enough to lay down two or three voices and still have room for five instruments. Let the good times roll!

Great Value

By EightyEight

from Beaverton, OR

This is a great, bare-bones recording deck for a beginner or home hobbyist. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to use; I was up and running in a couple hours. The reason I chose this one is the ability to save recordings in wav files so I can post them on the internet. The compact flash allows unlimited storage, but the disks are expensive. I now wish I had one with built-in reverb and effects. I have all that equipment external, but it's inconvenient to hook it all up.

Nice For Single Artists

By KyGuy316

from CA

This recorder is great when just recoding alone and with less than pro equipment. Although you need some external effects, the effect send and return knobs give you a great feel for the amount of reverb, delay, etc, you want with each track. I work with a BOSS Digital Reverb pedal and a Line 6 POD for my effects and I still get quality sound out of this thing. The auto punch functions are great for precise entrances but I am disappointed in the lack of pre-recording time you get before you play. Also the memory card is a joke. One gigabyte gives you about enough room to do a song and a half before its full. Not a dozen like the detail claim. all in all a good product though.

Great Recorder

By gibsonplayer

from Toledo, Ohio

This recording system has a great sound. I run all my guitars, acoustic and electric, through my half stack head and straight to the recorder. It gets a really nice sound to it. My electronic drums record very well too. One thing that I had to figure out was that after recording, realizing i dont like the track, re-doing it and recording again... the system saves each recoring so u can go back and pick it if you decide u liked it. so when you're done recording, you must delete the history or it will take up a lot of memory.

Best Buget Multi Track Recorder on the Market!

By Jason

from Smithton, Illinois

This MTR is really great and easy to use with a great price. Only thing you will have to get is a larger CF card if you want to record more than one song. For me the best thing about this recorder is that you can be up and recording in a matter of seconds. I used a computer interface for awhile but it just took too long. Not great for a band, unless you have a mixer, since the recorder only has two inputs. After you are done recording all you do is transfer your work over to your computer and edit and burn a CD. Only down side is there are no on-board effects or reverb but you can only get so much for such a low price. If you are looking for a quick, easy, and cheap way to record your music, at CD quality, fast then check out this unit.

Great!!!

By Bubba J

from San Francisco, CA

I just got this portastudio and I love it. The sound quality is great and it was very easy to use. The only thing I had trouble with was the memory. It comes with a 1GB Compact Flash, and after recording 4 songs only about 4 minutes long each, it said "no free disk". To solve this all that needed to be done was clear the history of all the "undos" and "redos" that took place in learning how to use it. It opened up an extra 60 minutes of recording for each track.

Great sound

By Mike

from hagerstown, MD

This unit is amazing for the price...Weather your using a Mic or direct line in the quality is crystal clear. Recording is verys easy to do but the editing could be a little easier. I recommend using editing software to do most of the editing.
