The TASCAM DP-01FX/CD 8-Track Hard Disk Recorder features the one-knob-per-function design that has made TASCAM cassette Portastudios the choice of thousands of musicians. It shatters the confusing page-shift-menu interface found in most other digital recorders. The DP-01FX digital recorder has 2 - 1/4" TRS mic/line inputs, 2 phantom-powered XLR microphone inputs for connecting condenser mics, plus a guitar-level input. Its 8 tracks record at uncompressed CD quality to an internal 40GB hard drive, and a stereo master track is available for recording a mix. Each channel has a 45mm volume fader, plus dedicated controls for pan, effects send, high EQ, and low EQ. An LCD display shows meters, audio editing settings, and locate points. It has a USB 2.0 jack for file backup and transferring mixes to a computer. There are analog RCA line outputs, a headphone out and S/PDIF line output. The DP-01FX also has a multi-effects processor for adding effects to an instrument during recording and a reverb processor for adding effects during a mix.
The onboard CD burner makes backups and mastering a snap.

I may be new to the home recording business, but this would not be my first choice. I picked one up because the Roland/Boss-1200/CD was out of stock. The next shipment wouldn't be in until the following week, and I had a free Saturday (rare for me) so it was the perfect time to learn it as I tried to record. I asked if I could get the display model, but the guy told me they couldn't sell it. I went with the Tascam instead. When I got it home, the manual was really confusing. I'm kind of savvy with this stuff, but the manual writers have to at least give me a chance. Not in this case. The player itself seemed kind of cheap, and I was shocked to find that there is NO display light! My instincts were telling me that I had cheated myself by getting this, and if I was going to spend that kind of dough, I should have done it right. I picked up some microphones the following day, and a differnt guy told me that he could sell me the display model of the Roland I had originally wanted. I didn't waste any time and switched them out. Was I glad I did. The manual was easy to read and understand, and even though it is huge, it covers everything! I still have a lot to learn, but I already laid down some tracks and burned a CD, and I LOVE IT! I would pass on this one if you can afford something better.
I am professional songwriter and play many different instruments, which comes in handy when creating a new song, needing new sounds. I have own this recorder since DEC. 2005 and i have been impressed each time i use it. The Manual is clearly spelled out for simple instructions when you are not sure what to do. Its like having the Computer with everything including the CD burner all in one. Be proud of your recording, cause what ever you put in, is what comes out! And this little machine can apply different effects to make it all happen.
Ive been recording a ton of songs after having it for almost a year. It does just take a while to actually master this to make the track sound completeley professional, but its such a great 8track. Im not a computer guy, but i guess ya can put it on the computer, but i just love the whole idea of 'this is how the legends recorded back in the day', ya know?? sgt peppers was all on 2 separate 4 tracks, just awesome, so its very sentimental/nostalgic. the sound effects are an unbelievable treat just to add that little extra something, maybe cos im just a young singer/songwrite, but it brings great satisfaction to hear the end product, AND its sure a blast to mess around on it, go get it now.
This was one of the best things I've ever purchased! It gives great CD qualitie, The effects are great, -and alot of fun! This thing has a butt whooping amount of memory. My microphone isn't that great and because it has the EQ high and EQ low it gives me great sound. Mastering is a brease on this thing, once you go through the instructions this thing becomes your best friend! DEFINETLY WORTH EVERY CENT!!!
I love this puppy. It looks good feels good. Sound ain't too bad. 8 track digital for this price that burns cd's I think is great. I also have a Roland 16 track which I never ever used because it is just too complicated. I like easy. And thats what this machine is. Easy. I recorded a song the first hour out of the box. On problem through and it was scary. After a month and having recorded about 7 priceless gems. Suddenly no sound came out of the headphones or from the line out in the back. Fearing that I lost everything. The nice folks at the Guitar center in New Brunswick showes me how to back up all the songs to my PC. Easy!! Then I brought my PC to the store and downloaded all my songs onto a brand new machine that they swaped out with me no questions asked. It worked like a charm. Yes I would buy the machine again in a heartbeat(though I wish they made a 16 track version just as easy to use)I would recommend buying the extended warrenty and I would recommend backing up all data to a PC frequently just in case something like this happens. I'm hoping I just had a bad unit but I will back up from now on. To CD or to PC. But for a quick recording machine for ideas and lots of fun. Yes I recommend the DP-01 FX/CD.
The DP-01FXCD is an affordable recording with almost professional quality. With the right microphone, this machine will bring your works of music to life. I certainly brought mine to life. The many features, such as the numerous effects and the built in CD burner, allow any song to be filled with sprirt and burned with ease. The DP-01fxcd is extremely easy to operate and just as easy to put a song onto a computer or a CD. However, it lacks a light in the LCD screen, which can get anooying while recording with bad light. I bought this when I couldnt remember any of my songs or my bands songs. I used many of the wide variety of effects and upon my completion, I simply burned the CD from the recorder. It was excellent. Overall, this affordable piece of equipment is definitely something I would recommend to anyone who is a beginner or intermediate recorder. It is extremely good for all recording purposes.
The TASCAM DP-01FX/CD 8-Track Hard Disk Recorder with CD Burner is an outstanding buy for andy new or intermediate recorders. It picks up great sound. I use this recorder and a Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone for recording my songs. The recorders picks up the acoustic sound with outstanding quality. The CD Burner makes the process so much easier than having to use a computer to burn your cd's. Plus you dont lose any sound quality as you would if you transferred your audio files to a computer then to a cd. The use of this recorder is simple and anyone can learn to use it efficiently within a day of owning it. For those of you who record your music by yourself, the system is very useful. After you record your initial tracks, you mak a master track and can tweak the EQ, volume, fade, balance, etc. how you want to hear it. Overall it is a great purchase. I use mine every day and it still amazes me.
This unit is pretty much the same as the DPO1FX except that it also has a onboard CD burner. This is a digital 8 track recorder. If you want a unit that is easy to operate this may be what you desire. This unit is a great item for a person that wants to make the move from a cassette tape recorder. The unit is very easy to operate since each feature has a individual know, so you won?t have to go through several menu screens. The unit has phantom power, which is always a good idea to have. The onboard reverb processor is usable but it tends to offer nothing particularly special. The DPO1FX has a 40GB hard drive so you should have plenty of storage space for your projects. The faders move very smooth so mixing should not be a problem. Overall this is a very solid unit, and I would recommend it for a good learning device.
This is a great recorder for laying down demo tracks. It definetely sounds better when recording acoustically. The electric guitar sound effects are not that great and if you are into a crunchy distortion, you won't get it from this unit. However, it is very user friendly and stores a lot of memory.
This is one of the easiest recorders I have ever used. The quality is also very good for the price range it is in. It has all of the basic features like EQ, effects, etc. However, it is not so complex that you need to study the manual for a month to understand it. It is perfect for quickly laying down song ideas, or recording a pretty good demo.
