One thing that would have made this product better by far is a Metronome..Timing is everything. solo artists would love that in this compact digital 8 track.. maybe next the next one will have a killer drum machine w/ pre-set beats....
EQ is worthless and mic pres are muddy, but... Extremely easy to use and solidly built. The best feature is it's ability to transfer individual track wav files at 16 bits into a PC for further processing and mixing. Buy a decent mic and mic pre, and you can't beat this product for the price.
I have had the Tascam DP-01 for a few months now, and I still haven't discovered all of its features. The interface is really easy to use along with a lot of other functions. My only complain is the lack of effects that you can use, but it's understandable, as it isn't entirely built for effects. With 8 tracks, you can't go wrong. I only need to use 4, maybe 5 tops, in a single recording. I recommend this for any garage band/project, for its ease-of-use.
We just bought this item today and already have 2 songs recorded. its fun and pretty easy to use. the quality is about professional and its great. i would recommend this product to any band looking to record without paying a great deal of money.
After trying out four different machines, I came across the DP-01. I'm in love with it! It's strong and solid and it doesn't waste any time on all the other BS the other Multi-tracks worry about. It's is straight forward Digital Recording System and it does everything you need, and it does it well. It's dependable. After all, isn't that what it's all about? My only complaint is that the LCD Screen is not back-lit;but i forgive Tascam(however, it would be very cool to operate this thing in the dark)
This is an excellent budget recorder. If you need something easy to use and you have a limited budget this may be what you need. This is great for someone just getting into recording, it provides the ease of a 4 track cassette recorder while providing a higher quality recording. This is a great way to get an 8-track recording on a tight budget. The unit is built well and it is incredibly easy to use.
The Tascam DP-01 is a great product. Its eight tracks allow some noice over-dub oppurtunaties. The high, low and EQ effect knobs are helpful in creating a unique good sound. The DP-01 only has two simultaneous tracks which can be a problem, if you don't have a mixer. At first it is a slighly challenging product to learn unlike many of the Boss eight track recorders in the price range. The DP-01 has professional featurs at a price you can afford.
What a great way to make quality recordings at home! I had the opportunity to borrow this machince from a friend for a couple weeks to do some recording and I was amazed at how fast I was able to get started. I had never used any recording equipment before, and I've often been confused by the complicated menu structure of my Roland keyboard, but the "one knob per function" layout of the Tascam DP-01 was very intuitive. Within a few hours, I had recorded 6 tracks (two vocals, piano, guitar, drums, and bass), mastered a great mix, and downloaded it to my computer to burn to CD. The DP-01 lacks a built-in effects processor or CD burner, neither of which are important to me. With my style of music doesn't need a lot of effects and I can easily use my computer to put together a CD project and do the burning. Overall, you can't get an easier recording experience, and at this price, its hard to consider looking anywhere else.
