Straight Forward basic stereo digital recorder

For a straight forward live recorder that is stereo this unit performs well. PROS- Stereo, Good mics, Lots of inputs, easy to use (minimal scrolling to adjust parameters),Light, compact, sizable buttons, comes w/ SD card, operator manual on file inside unit, overdubbing capable. CONS-Does not run on regular batteries, Effects are few and useless (degrades the live sound quality), needs more outputs, needs a mic stand mount or tripod mount, Power supply sold seperatley. I recorded a theatre play sitting in the middle of a 250 seat auditorium, and the clarity and volume were awesome. Just recording myself on the acoustic guitar at my computer desk had great results.

Sick!

This little thing works wonders. It is super easy to operate and play with. It is just as the description says, "perfect for rehearsals, gigs, samples, etc." If you are looking for something to record your tracks or to take to some shows, this is what you need. Approved by the Disgruntled Americans.

Does an excellent Job.

This recorder exemplifies excellent technology. It's user friendly. The controls are intuitive and it's easy to navigate through the parameters. I used to record several bands that played live during a park concert. Outstanding quality. The Mp3 and Wave recording format options offer Mp3 bps rates from 32K bps to 320K bps. The DR-1 also gives you the option to chose Wav Bit rates from 16 bits and 24 bits with sample frequencies set at 44.1khz or 48khz. The bottom line is the sound is outstanding. You can do overdubs on this gem of a recording device. It's worth the money. It's very flexible. Just don't use any Mp3 file recorded below 128K bps. Those Mp3 files tend to sound great from the DR-1, but they sound muddy and mono-ish when transferred and played via an Mp3 player or computer. It's better to record all Mp3 files with a 128k bps or more. The Mp3 files recorded at 320Kbps will give you the best fidelity. However, if you like muddy sounds. Enjoy. The DR-1 will satisfy that need in addition to giving you great sounding recording in the Wav or Mp3 format.

Nice portable recorder!

This recorder is really simple to use right out of the box. On my acoustice the built in Mics sound excellent, but are very sensitive so it can hear all the buzzes as well that my beat up guitar gives off. Just putting it in front of my amp with distortion it sounds very good, unfortunately again the built in condensors are very sensitive so it can also hear my picking, so for live recording it would be best at higher volumes to drown out any ambient noise. Overall this thing is really handy, comes with everything you need to start recording, SD card, usb cable. It does charge through the usb come to find out, but does not come with a wall adapter which is fine as long as you own a computer. The battery life is really good as well. The only con is I wish there was an standard XLR Mic input instead of 1/8" and 1/4" inputs, so I am going to need an adapter to use a regular Mic cable.

Fantastic

These things are fantastic. I use mine mainly for songwriting demos but the sound quality is so good you could make an album on it. If I was a better singer I would. I was really surprised by the quality of the built in mics but I have to agree with everyone who says the built in effects are rubbish. Battery life is really good too. I keep mine on my coffee table so it's ready anytime inspiration strikes. I've recorded hundreds of song ideas and finished songs and have only recharged it a couple of times.
