The Awesome Tascam 2488 neo

I thought I'd put a good word in because this is the machine of my dreams. I've had it for three weeks now and the love affair only intensifies with use. I'm not the most technically minded user around--I like my tools easy but powerful and I will declare that the 2488neo's controls are extremely intuitive and very flexible. All the wonderful features this machine provides are incredibly easy to access and the large screen is bright, easy to read, and completely adequate. The learning curve for using this unit was almost non-existent--I was able to jump right in and get great results almost instantly. There's tons of hard drive space, a built in CD burner and USB inport and export. This machine is everything I've ever needed or wanted. I love it.

If it works?

Being a long time user of Tascam digital SIAB, i am quite familiar with their products. I have and still use the Tascam 788 SIAB for the last 8 years. The quality that one is superb in term of sound quality and reliability for the money. With that said, i decided to upgrade my equipment by buying the 2488 NEO. The over all appearance is nice. The layout is clear and neat, and it takes little time to get used to the features and functions, which is great. However, the reason it only got 2 stars from me was that the darn thing crashed as soon as i got it out of the box after i took it home. It seems like the unit gets pretty hot due to inadequate cooling for the internal components. Also, the HD does not initiates correctly upon boot up. I got it to work after several power on and off, since it was stuck and I couldn't do anything with it excepts to hit the power button. When it works, the sound quality is very good for the class and money that it is in. I have only looked into some basic features and will have to take it back tomorrow morning, so I can't comment on everything yet. I think this is a good piece of machinery, but Tascam has gotta look more into fixing this problem for the future batch of 2488 NEO.

Great "Bang for your Buck"

This HD Recorder is awesome. For the people that haven't given it a good review, I understand that there are some system issues that could be a bit better, but still, overall, I've not (personnaly) seen a better recorder with the sound quality and ease of use as this one. Some people say it's difficult and the manual isnt to user friendly, well I used the manual, and had no problems figuring out the basic funtionality of this machine. Just knowing the basics will put you on the path to recording awesome sounding music, and once you master it (on the recorder) it starts to take shape of a professionally done track. This thing has it all. I will say that I did run into that "System Error" message 1 time, but I think I know why, and it was something to do with importing WAV files onto the recorder. Other than that 1 error, I've had no problems with it, and have become an avid user of this product. I cant wait to learn more about it to get better sounding music. AWESOME!!!

editing

I find this recorder very easy to use in most aspects. Sounds great, operates well. My difficulty is during the editing phase. When adding the "in" and "out" points to get the start and finish of the song, I cant seem to figure out how to get it to apply to the master track, no matter how much I read the instruction guide. Other than that, excellent.

I own one

I've had my neo now for just over a month and have laid down some songs. It does a good job. The manual is a little hard to understand, especially if you are a newcomer to home recording and the lingo. I ended up buying a video so I could better understand the machine. I bought a great condensor mic to use with it and I'm a little disappointed in the mic tones. I am told I may need to buy a mic pre amp to get better tones for my vocals.
