These sound better than I expected. i bought them for remote laptop recording but found I was able to match them to my very expensive custom made Black Beauties (6" two way) that I've been using for mixing and mastering. The EQ feature on the 502's allowed me to get them sounding very close to my BB's, but the great thing is that they sound even clearer, without any hyped high end. I use the high cut on the EQ switch. There's plenty of low end but it's in balance with the mids and highs. And they are super quiet. So thinking that I got a nice little pair for remote use, I got a nice little pair for critical studio use as well.

sure wish these wouldn't have a VERY audible background buzz to them, because they sound great otherwise. The BG noise is about 10X louder than my Reveal 601's, and yes, I know what I'm doing. It's not my system or power conditioner. TEST them in a quiet space before buying, and compare to other speakers on the shelf at GC.

Loved them, but returned them

Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I really loved the Tannoy Reveal 502. I purchased 2 brand new for GC. The monitor is solid, and has a lot of ways to get sound out and in (unbalanced, balanced, 3.5 inch). They give you a true representation of what you need to hear when you're mixing, monitoring, sound designing, etc.
Really wish I could of kept them but there was always this inherent noise/hiss/hum being produced by them. I read online that this is common with this brand and it could be because the amplifier was designed poorly. I even bought a power conditioner to see if that would at least dampen that noise/hiss/hum and to no avail. At first it was annoying, but later I got used to it and didn't mind it even though it was irritating.
Ultimately, I ended up returning them and grabbing a pair of Yamaha HS5's. If you're doing music production, sound engineering, media creation, etc., then these are really good monitors so thats why I gave them 4 stars. But that noise/hiss/hum could make these great sounding monitors easily a 2 star purchase. Hope this review helps.

    Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I bought these on recommendation of a mastering engineer who has demo'd a broad range of monitors. He let me know that these are the clearest and most accurate in their price point. However, to get the bottom octave (anything from about 50hz and lower), you will want to pair these with a sub. They do not disappoint, the clarity is on par with monitors costing hundreds upon hundreds more.

      Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I have had these speakers for about a year now. I first got them because of the Tannoy rep and price. The first thing that I noticed was the clarity. Stunning. Just like someone else said, it made me go back and listen to all of my favorite music. I have used them extensively in my home recordings, and they are great at clearly picking out all of the instruments. It is true that they can have a bit of hiss, but I believe that this is because they aren't well shielded. If you move or rotated them just a little, the hiss is diminished, if not completely removed. Highly recommended for the price.

            Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I'm a musician on a budget. I bought a pair of restocked Tannoy Reveal 502 monitors from MF at a bargain price. I wasn't sure quite what to expect with a 5" woofer, but I figured they would be halfway decent since Tannoy is part of the TC Group (along with TC Electronic and TC-Helicon, etc.). When they arrived, I grabbed some CDs from my listening collection that I knew were mixed well just so I could get a quick read on what the sound reproduction would be like. I was impressed with the amount of detail I could hear. In fact, after previewing several tracks from different CDs, I was overcome by a feeling that I needed to listen to my whole collection over again because it was as though I had never really listened to the music before. So many elements that I hadn't realized were there were suddenly being heard for the first time. It was definitely delightful. I left my first audition of these monitors inspired and totally stoked for mixing my own music! I feel like a surgeon who just got upgraded from a steak knife to a razor sharp scalpel! I have no doubt that I would love the 802s even that much more, but these fit my pocketbook and I am exceptionally pleased!

Great monitors for film or television editing.

            Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I am a narrative television editor and was looking for monitors for an edit suite i was building to work from home. I asked some of my colleagues and they suggested I check out the tannoy line because they were the best speakers I could get for the money. Since i was building the system with my own money cost was a factor. I went to the guitar center to check out what they had and landed on the 502's. I matched them with other 5 and 6 inch speakers in the store and these just won me over right off the bat. They had plenty of bottom end unlike some of the other models and overall just had a nice warm tone. Picked up a pair and hooked them up to my new system. Wow these things are great. I have not missed a beat between working at the office and working from home. Dialogue is crisp and I feel like I am getting the most out of every take. And the music editing wonderful. I am getting the full range out of every cue I get from the composer and my full mix of dialogue and music is better than ever. Didn't have any problems with "hum" like some of the others. Extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend them to anyone working in film or tv looking for studio monitors.

I'm very happy with these super clear monitors

            Comments about Tannoy Reveal 502:

I've been looking for a handy sized pair of powered monitors for remote laptop recording situations, and also for a second station at my studio. I currently use a custom made pair of Black Beauties that aren't available on the market and wanted to find something that came as close to them as possible. I found the 502's to be the best sounding in the listening room at Guitar Center and was very pleased after listening for a few hours in my studio. One of the best features is the EQ control. With the high end cut in place, they not only come dead close to my bigger monitors but actually sound clearer. The 502's have a very clear sound (definition in the midrange) with a balanced low end. Without the high EQ cut they would probably be little on the bright side to me in my particular room. And that's the key to it. Being able to dial in the right amount of high EQ for every acoustic situation. Now I'm even thinking of using them as my main monitors. As far as the reports or "buzz" I didn't hear that in the listening room and I don't hear it on the pair I bought. In fact they are very quiet. And I do have older ears, but I've preserved my hearing and know what to listen for and how to test for it. Don't know, but it might have to do with proximity to other equipment. Can't wait to plug my Pono player into them!
