The Tama Superstar Superstar SL Hyper Drive 6-Piece Drum Kit breaks through the price barrier and delivers the goods--all the sound and all the quality, features, looks and attitude you ever dreamed of.
How often have you imagined the drums you'd like to play? The sound. The professional hardware. The finish gleaming in the spotlights. Then you wake up and see what you can really afford. Kind of an unwelcome reality check--unless you've seen and played Tama Superstar. Superstar has all the killer looks and in-your-face attitude you expect from a pro rock set. But Superstar is more than just attitude.Tama Superstar drums provide all the power, projection, and durability you expect from a professional kit, but at a price that's much less than the traditional intermediate set.
Tama's highest priority feature when developing the new Superstar series was sound. Superstar shells use birch for the main inner plies for strong projection and aggressive open sound. To enhance Superstar's great looks, basswood--with its excellent consistency and regular grain patterns--is utilized for the inner plies on all Superstar shells. Precisely cut bearing edges bring out the great response and powerful resonance of these superbly crafted shells. Bass drum shells are made from 7 plies of 7mm basswood; toms and snare drum are made from 6 plies of 6mm basswood.
No other drum embodies pro features at an affordable price like Superstar. In a first for this price range, Superstar is equipped with the same zinc die-cast hoops featured on Starclassic drums. Die-cast hoops not only make tuning easier and more consistent, they also provide crisp attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.
All Superstar rack toms are fitted with the same Star-Cast Mounting System as Starclassic drums. This unique system offers total tom isolation and unhindered shell resonance without the adverse effect on tuning or complicated head changes found in less advanced suspension designs.
The Sound Bridge high-tension, low-mass lug was specifically designed for Superstar. Sound Bridge's unique structure looks much like a traditional high-tension lug, but the body of the lug "floats" over the shell to minimize shell contact so the drum can resonate to its fullest. However, Sound Bridge still offers all the benefits of the traditional high-tension lug: it offsets the tension of the batter side and bottom side heads, reduces the stress on the shell, and provides greater protection to the drum shell during transport.
All Superstar "Power Craft" drum heads ensure a great sound practically right out of the box. Batter-side heads are made of Dupont Mylar film for richer tone and greater durability. Ring mufflers on bass drum heads remove the need for extra internal muffling.
All Superstar kits come standard with upgraded Roadpro cymbal stands. The toothless Quick-Set cymbal tilter lets you adjust the angle freely and hold it in position by the friction of six metal disc plates instead of gears. You're completely free to adjust it to any angle you desire. This mechanism also has a more durable structure than the conventional gear tilter.
Cymbals not included.

Well, it's a great drum set. Snare is above average. What really caught my attention is is the tiny toms. But don't worry. These still give out great sound. They attach onto the cymbal stand, something that might be troublesome to beginners. Bass drum is quite large, and it produces a large sound too. The stands and accessories are very durable. I've dropped so many times, it's not even funny. Same with the drum parts. I don't know what that other guy was talking about, but it's pretty hard to accidentally destroy the drums in standard use. I wouldn't recommend this set to beginners. Tama makes drums for more professional settings. What the title says is true. I got this set for $1000 exactly the same as this set, new, at a locally owned shop. The problem is, Guitar Center only accepts something written on paper (like an ad). Most local shops doesn't really advertise, so the loss is guitar center's. The people are a lot more helpful than at G.C's. Besides, wouldn't you like to help the struggling businesses?
I just received this drumset a few days ago and I am extremely impressed by its sound and quality. The bass drum gives the deepest and most responsive thumps I've ever heard from a bass drum. The rest of the set is equally impressive. The extra floor tom is definitely a plus as well. Both floor tom's have super deep tones perfect for playing metal. Not only does it sound amazing, but it looks amazing too. The brushed nickel hardware is sweet! I guarantee you will not be disappointed with this drum set!!
After having a Tama Swingstar Custom SE, I decided to move a little bit up in the scale to good quality and excellent sounding drumsets and I selected this one. To start with, I'd like to make sure that you all know that not only it took me less than 30 mins to tune it but also, it was vert easy to set up and configure. The floor toms sound deep and strong at the same time, and the suspended toms are equally strong in attack. The bass-drum is full of power. The snare drum is loud and warm as you better see fit. I totally recommend getting one of these if you are looking forward to get pro features and sounding at an affordable price.
I had ordered the Tama Superstar because I needed a drum set that would last and include good features. When I bought the Drum set It didn't seem like I got my moneys worth. The features were cool, like the paint and extra floor tom, but the drumset as a whole did not last me very long. I paid WAY too much for this drumset for what I got out of it. I would recommend a pearl or mapex drum set because Tama drumsets don't seem to last. If your looking for a good product you should look else where
