For nearly forty years, the Superstar name has stood for groundbreaking design, superior build quality, sterling tone and clear projection. Now Tama introduces this legendary kit in its most sonically aggressive persona yet, featuring 100% maple shells. Thinner and livelier than ever, the Tama designers have dialed in the perfect combination of sensitivity and high-end "cut" and shallow toms for quicker resonance.
Drawing on Superstar of the past, its classic Tama T-shape badge and streamlined low-mass single lugs point to the simpler state of art of the '70s, while the ingenious Star-Mount system eclipses everything in its class–all at a surprisingly affordable price.

Comments about Tama Superstar Hyper-Drive Maple 6-Piece Shell Pack:
I've been playing off an on since the late 90s. I had to go on a hiatus for about 10 years but have recently made an opportunity to play again. I'm not in a band anymore and likely won't be doing gigs with this kit, just for my own enjoyment and record some tracks with friends in a home studio. Previously I owned several kits over the years with the most recent being a Tama Starclassic Performer fusion kit from 2003. I'm familiar with Tama drums. While the Starclassic was a fantastic kit I ended up selling it because I wasn't using it and since I bought it used it already pretty beat up. I wanted to go back to a maple kit with die-cast hoops, virgin bass drum and higher build quality. While I had my eye on the Starclassic I came across this Superstar Hyper-Drive series with fast tom sizes, die-cast hoops, virgin bass drum, maple shell, black nickel hardware, 1-piece bridge-style lugs with true floor-toms and a matching snare for a moderate price. While a Japanese Tama would be nice I thought about this for a while and ultimately decided to go for it. I don't regret my choice. The quality is professional-grade, the hardware is durable and looks awesome with the black nickel finish. The short toms may not be for everyone but I found that I now prefer the quicker decay and tone they offer. Plus it gives you greater versatility for positioning them. The bass drum resonant head is awesome looking, it appears to be similar to a Powerstroke 3 or EQ3 but with a thin rubbery coating. I'm not positive what it's made of but I tried a few different heads that I had and the stock head, unported, with a Remo Muffl and an EMAD on the batter sounds like a giant hairy-chested beast! I never used the stock tom and snare heads, they felt kinda thin. I'm using Evans EC2s and a Genera Dry on the snare. Lastly, around the time of this writing I have been informed that Tama will no longer produce these kits going into the end of 2017. Too bad, I say get one while you can!
