Fantastic maple snare

Comments about Tama Starphonic Snare Drum:

I am in love with this snare! I decided to add it to my bubinga star classic limited edition kit and it blends quite nicely (right now I am using it as my main snare). The sound is warm and punchy. Tuning and head changes are breeze thanks to the detachable snares butt plate. It is a beautiful snare drum. Tuning wise has a very nice range from low (mid Lo) to high and tight. Volume is a little lower but that is a typical situation with maple snares of this size. I bought it primarily for use in my home studio so being able to dial the volume back with softer playing is a plus. No real cons in my opinion. I definitely will be looking into other members of the starphonic snare family.

Comments about Tama Starphonic Snare Drum:

Bought this snare from my local Guitar Center in Houston and I have to say that I have never been more impressed. Tama really nailed it with this one. I actively gig and play all types of music and this one can do it all. For jazz I tighten down the lugs and get an amazing snap. For rock, just loosen them up and you have a crack with amazing low resonance. I do agree with everyone that the lugs are too short and to change the head they more often than not come out from being loosened too much.....a small price to pay for the greatest snare ever.
