Overview

The Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum has 7 inner plies of birch—for the rich tonality that only thin birch can supply—paired with an inner ply of African bubinga. The harder, thicker bubinga accentuates birch's distinct tone and projection. The combination of the 2 tonewoods creates a more powerful, deeply rounded sound that is unlike any other drum. The Tama Starclassic snare drum is finished with a gorgeous single outer ply of bubinga.

A staple for every serious drummer's snare collection

By Thomas Alderson

from Wilmington, DE

I picked this snare up today after wanting it for about a year and after having seen one of my friends play it live. I played with it non stop as soon as I got home! I just want to say, it's the best Tama snare drum I've ever heard. Recorded, it sounds absolutely phenomenal. In person, just the same. For the money this snare is practically untouchable. Worth every cent and should be in every serious drummer's arsenal. It's going to be my new main snare for the studio and at home from now on. The birch gives it this great punchy crack and not a very long ring (using the stock G1 coated head) and meanwhile the bubinga gives it this low end full tone that is just musical. After hearing every snare in every drum section of any store I've ever been in, I found a snare that I know I'll stick with forever. As far as look, the satin bubinga shell is just gorgeous; very classy. This snare is 10/10 in my personal opinion and if you want a snare that you can crack with medium up to high tuning but not lose any low bodied or dark/punchy tones, look no further.

WHOA!!!

By Ronald Brown

from 302

I recently just got on team Tama after being team Pearl for a minute and thinking that they were the truth but let me say after talking to some friends at the Guitar Center a lot of them used Tama and explained how they are so customer friendly till it's not funny. Now at that time I got introduced to the Tama G Maple which is a monster of a snare and I was all gung ho getting my ducks in a row and was all set to get that snare. But I did some looking around as well and that snare was hard to come by in the store I actually had to order it. Now in between time I come across the monster of snare as well in the form of the Tama Starclassic B/B. The guy at the Guitar Center in Oxford Valley said that is the snare he loves the most and that I need to hear it because it may make me jump ship from the G Maple. He said and I quote "oh yeah the G Maple is a great snare along with the whole SLP line but for me that Starclassic snare is second to none and the price won't bust your pocket. So I had to take a ride to the store after work and check it out myself and all I can say is man did I make the right choice. I cancelled my G Maple order and took this bad boy home. I put an Evans ST Dry Vented head on it and tightened just a little and man does this thing have one of the greatest tones I ever heard out of a snare drum. And keep in mind the phenomenal stock head from Evans that's already on it is sick as well. Trust me you don't have to adjust this snare much to get that sound you want and this thing goes hard. It's a little heavier because of the hoops that are on there and I love that as well. This is now the main snare for my Tama Limited Edition Silverstar kit which is that exclusive Tamo Ash color only available at Guitar Center and there were only 500 made and the snare that came with that set was sick but I'm telling you people if you want the snare that's going to get the job done give you the tones you want and not break your pocket look no further. This is a $500 to $600 quality drumset for half that price almost. Get it now and enjoy it trust me you won't be sorry.

Versatile snare

By Jeff McInnis

from Seattle, WA

Ive owned 6 different snare drums throughout the past 4 years, and by far this is the most affordable, yet best sounding. You can tune this thing high or low. Ive put an assorment of different heads on it from the EVANS power center reverse dot to the EVANS dry head. It its like a multiple snare in one, and the sound guys love it too (:

Best snare drum EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Jacob Ohme

from Chicago, Illinois

I was on the market for a new snare drum. I've been playing a steel snare for a majority of my life, so I wanted a new sound and a new feel, something to mix it up a bit. I did some research and put this bad boy on a drum kit at my local guitar center and was sold on the first drum roll. It's truly a beautiful snare, the Bubinga outer ply is an amazing look that will match most drum kits. All the hardware is top notch and compliments the finish very well. I have a Tama Starclassic Bubinga kit and this drum sonunds amazing with it. It has a dark, warm, crack for a sound, almost a mix between a pop and a crack. Over all, this drum is worth every penny, incredible sound, beautiful finish, and top notch quality/durability. If your looking for an amazing wood snare that has great unique sound, with the all around high end features and craftsmenship, then you have to consider this snare drum. GET THIS DRUM, YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED!!!

great deep snare

By jim haley

from michigan

ive been using a pearl 13x3 brass piccolo snare as my primary snare for a about 3 years. its tuned real tight which is the way i like it. i just wanted a nice change and went with the starclassic b/b snare. man does this thing sound great. i have it tuned pretty high but its such a change from what i use to use. it has way more of a deep sound when tuned high but still has the warmth. i would recommend this snare for anyone especially if you play metal/grindcore. its the most unique sonding snare ive ever heard. go and buy it.

Hugeflantically Awesome Snare!

By James Druiett

from Point Pleasant, NJ

So this is my fourth installment of using Tama Starclassic snare drums and what a drum it is! Sounds absolutely awesome in live situations and has a tuning range that would foot the bill for every application. The finish/coloring of the drum is fantastic, complimented with Tamna's well crafted hardware and die cast hoops. I actually bought this as a spare to my STarclassic Maple snare and have been using this at every gig since! I highly recommend this snare. :)

Its Got It All

By Jake

from Detroit, Michigan

I spent a lot of time online listening to samples of snare drums, asking drummer friends with more experience about snare drums. Then I went to my local guitar center and hit every snare drum in the place in every way I knew how and kept narrowing it down and narrowing it down until I had just a few. I thought I had made my choice, and while the salesman finished with another customer I sat down at a kit that had this snare set up with it. I sat down at the kit, hit this drum, and practically melted away. I hit it again softer, then harder, then did a role, and a gravity blast, and a rim shot, and before you know it I was doing a snare solo on this thing, forgetting I was still in the middle of a store! Its sensitive, great for ghost notes, but still powerful with plenty of pop. I've been using it for funk, blues, reggae, rock, and mixtures of all of the above and this thing never lets me down. The greatest thing about buying it was that I took it home, put it on my snare stand, and started playing it right away. It was tuned up already and the factory head is excellent! If you're a drummer looking for a snare thats versatile and easy to play but still stands out in every genre, get this one!

Great Sound for a great price

By Gauin Moore

from Seattle, WA

I just purchase this to replace my aging 4 X 14 metal Tama snare. Took to our video shoot and couldn't believe the sound. Rim shots are intense and the sound is thick. Can't believe the difference in sound quality. If your looking to replace, or just wanting to buy a new snare this is one you have to try, and for the price how can't you.
