Overview

The Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum has 7 inner plies of birch”for the rich tonality that only thin birch can supply”paired with an inner ply of African bubinga. The harder, thicker bubinga accentuates birch's distinct tone and projection. The combination of the 2 tonewoods creates a more powerful, deeply rounded sound that is unlike any other drum. The Tama Starclassic snare drum is finished with a gorgeous single outer ply of bubinga.

A WINNER !!!

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

I have owned many snare drums, over my playing life, u name it, i have owned it or played it, but i NEVER found a tama snare i cared for, until this one.i liked it so much i sold 2 dw snares to get it, sensitive, loud, dark, cuts through the mix, the dynamic range on this drum is very wide. The 1st gig i took it on , 3 other drummers commented " what is that snare drum".The sound is unique.in closing this drums a true 5 star out of the park winner.

Wow!

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

I went in to my local GC today expecting to pick up a Pearl Masters Snare Drum. When I got to the register to purchase it, the sales man (awesome employee by the way) showed me this new Tama drum that they just got in. I tried it out and absolutely loved it. I told compared the two drums side by side, and the Tama just blew the Pearl out of the water. I have an all Pearl set, stands and pedals included, but this Tama drum is in a league of its own and really sounds great with the kit. If you want a deep, metal style sound, a rock sound, or a studio sound, I recommend this snare!

Power House

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

I played a show with POWERMAN 5000 and felt inspired to go out and find that "just right" snare sound. I usually play the 14 by 5 1/2 maple snare that came with my Pearl Masters kit. I was immediately sold on this snare. Tune it up tight with no external dampening (rings, moongels, etc) and you have wide open machine-gun style sound. My sound guy noticed right away how much he had to turn down the snare mic to compensate. Very UNIQUE wood tone, powerful and sensitive like a steel but warm like wood and that extra half inch of depth makes all the difference.

Its Got It All

By Jake

from Detroit, Michigan

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

I spent a lot of time online listening to samples of snare drums, asking drummer friends with more experience about snare drums. Then I went to my local guitar center and hit every snare drum in the place in every way I knew how and kept narrowing it down and narrowing it down until I had just a few. I thought I had made my choice, and while the salesman finished with another customer I sat down at a kit that had this snare set up with it. I sat down at the kit, hit this drum, and practically melted away. I hit it again softer, then harder, then did a role, and a gravity blast, and a rim shot, and before you know it I was doing a snare solo on this thing, forgetting I was still in the middle of a store! Its sensitive, great for ghost notes, but still powerful with plenty of pop. I've been using it for funk, blues, reggae, rock, and mixtures of all of the above and this thing never lets me down. The greatest thing about buying it was that I took it home, put it on my snare stand, and started playing it right away. It was tuned up already and the factory head is excellent! If you're a drummer looking for a snare thats versatile and easy to play but still stands out in every genre, get this one!

Great Sound for a great price

By Gauin Moore

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

I just purchase this to replace my aging 4 X 14 metal Tama snare. Took to our video shoot and couldn't believe the sound. Rim shots are intense and the sound is thick. Can't believe the difference in sound quality. If your looking to replace, or just wanting to buy a new snare this is one you have to try, and for the price how can't you.

great deep snare

By jim haley

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

ive been using a pearl 13x3 brass piccolo snare as my primary snare for a about 3 years. its tuned real tight which is the way i like it. i just wanted a nice change and went with the starclassic b/b snare. man does this thing sound great. i have it tuned pretty high but its such a change from what i use to use. it has way more of a deep sound when tuned high but still has the warmth. i would recommend this snare for anyone especially if you play metal/grindcore. its the most unique sonding snare ive ever heard. go and buy it.

Hugeflantically Awesome Snare!

By James Druiett

from Point Pleasant, NJ

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer Bubinga/Birch Custom Snare Drum:

So this is my fourth installment of using Tama Starclassic snare drums and what a drum it is! Sounds absolutely awesome in live situations and has a tuning range that would foot the bill for every application. The finish/coloring of the drum is fantastic, complimented with Tamna's well crafted hardware and die cast hoops. I actually bought this as a spare to my STarclassic Maple snare and have been using this at every gig since! I highly recommend this snare. :)
