Overview

This Tama Starclassic Performer B/B is a 5-piece drum shell pack that provides sweet and deep hybrid tone, exhibiting the focused attack of birch paired with the enhanced lows of bubinga.

This Tama shell pack includes a 22" x 18" kick drum, 10" x 8" and 12" x 9" toms, and 14" x 12" and 16" x 14" floor toms. The tom shells are 6mm thick with 4 outer plies of birch, and 3 inner plies of bubinga. The kick drum shell is 8mm thick with 5 outer plies of birch, and 3 inner plies of bubinga. The MTH909 slideable tom-holder gives you nearly limitless setting flexibility.

The Tama Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro drums. Now it has a more streamlined designed, making it easier to position tom drums closer together. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. Star-Cast is also now plated to match your drum's shell hardware.

Tama Starclassic Performer's completely redesigned tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2 inches). Simply unloosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the tom toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease.

Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops is so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For the Starclassic Performer B/B, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.

Starclassic's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.

Tama's MSB30 die-cast bass drum spur brackets hold the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.

Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better playing.

Evans drum heads are featured on all Tama Starclassic Performer drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

Cymbals, snare and hardware not included.

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer B/B 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

Overall, I am happy I went with the birch/bubinga wood mixture. The drum tones are loud, full and naturally equalized. I must admit the greatest attraction I had to this kit was the advanced hardware which allows for reliable and easy setup.

The one issue I have with the kit is (while well-intentioned) trying to seat the rubber lining that sits between the kick drum shell and head. As the rubber spacer is not a continuous circle, I have yet to effectively use this shell protective feature. I hope Tama could offer some clarity on how to properly seat this spacer so I can ensure my kick drum shell is protected.

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer B/B 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

Dude. The 2 rubber things that come along the bass hoop with the drum kit is so for shipping and nothing else.. you don't put it together with them. how did that even work out?? The drums don't come fully assembled like a pearl kit for example: you take that out of the box the bass drum and every piece is already put together. so like you know the two bass drum heads came in a bag? So did the floor tom heads? Dude it's literally just to keep the stuff together.

No joke ive played every kit and this kit is my baby. Period. Only thing about this kit man, is it's seriously meant for a certain kind of drum head. Unlike a dw which are called the "chameleon of drums". Any head will make the drum sound different and it'll be good. Not these dude. I will admit that. Coated heads on this kit is literally not happening. Literally the Evans g2s clear that come with it stock, are what you should use. Or remo ambassadors clear. Period. But unlike other kits dude I swear this kit more than any other kit on earth is effected by the bottom heads and it's tuning more than any other thing.

I was so confused and even gonna return this kit until I found out that the bottom head is what I should have been messing with.

But I tuned these drums once the whole time I have had them and they have never gone out of tune. No joke. So serious. It almost shocks and upsets me sometimes because i feel like what's going on am
I not jamming hard enough? Do I suck? Why are these heads not loosening EVER ❤️ I love it but it's shocking.

Another thing about these drums is the fact that you will never. Ever. Ever. Even on the floor toms. Ever. Need a drum tac or a moon gel. These shells produce no buzz, no unwanted white noise no nothing. The birch and babinga compliment each other like a beast (I was skeptical at first of that combination, and again, didn't know if I would want this).

But I am because of this kit forever a believer in TAMA BEING THE STRONGEST NAME IN DRUMS
