Starclassic Performer brings you the distinct sweet and fat sound that only birch can provide. These precision-crafted 100% birch drum shells offer center, projection, and punch. Fusion set configuration includes 22" x 18" bass drum,10" x 8" tom, 12" x 9" tom, 14" x 12" floor tom. Toms shells are 6-ply 6mm, bass drum shell is 7mm, 7-ply. The MTH909 slideable tom-holder gives you nearly limitless setting flexibility.

A significant number of pro players still prefer the sound of birch and many more are rediscovering birch's round, slightly darker sound and great projection. Starclassic Performer shells are 100% birch with thin shell construction that offers a resonance and clarity that rivals some of the best maple kits. Best of all, advances in drum technology allow Tama to offer this fully professional drum for the price you'd pay for
an intermediate set.

The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro-drums. Now it has a more streamlined designed, making it easier to position toms closer together. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. Star-Cast is also now plated to match your drum's shell hardware.

Performer's completely redesigned tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2 inches). Simply unloosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the tom toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease.

Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops was so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For the Starclassic Performer, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.

Starclassic's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.

Tama's MSB30 die-cast bass drum spur brackets hold the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.

Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better playing.

Evans drum heads are featured on all Tama Starclassic Performer drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

    Very impressive!

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer 4-Piece Shell Pack:

I played this set in a Guitar Center store, and I was very impressed. The drums resonate really well, and they seem sturdy. These drums are not a starter kit, and they will do very well for anyone who needs an upgrade. I play heavy metal and if I need to slow down sometimes, these drums can handle that. They handle quite a few different types of genres. I played anything from death metal to a few punk rock licks on these drums and they worked with everything I did.

Last Kit You'll Have to Buy

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer 4-Piece Shell Pack:

I got my Startclassic almost 2 years ago. It's been real good to me. I love it. I originally was gonna get a Pacific 5 piece to upgrade from my begginer set. The sales person encouraged me to get the Starclassic, promising that it would be the last kit I would have to buy and he was right. I love this kit. It sounds great, looks good (in red sparkle) and the free double petal was a killer deal.

    Outstanding Kit that lasts

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Ive been playing this kit since they were first marketed in 1998, and have yet to find a kit anywhere in the price range to compare. The all birch shells have amazing projection and great attack. The 22" x 18" kick has a monsterous sound live and recorded. The only downside to this kit is that it no longer comes with the performer birch snare (and trust me the snare is just as much a monster as the kick) that came with my kit years ago. I purchased my 'burnt orange' starclasic performer kit about 9 1/2 years ago, and it's still just as phenominal as it was on the show room floor. No repairs, No replacments. Thanks TAMA for making the most amazing, road ready kit in production.
