The Tama Starclassic Bubinga 4-Piece Shell Pack includes a 22" x 18" bass drum, 10" x 8" and 12" x 9" mounted toms, and a 16" x 14" floor tom.
It was time for something new in drums. Tama found that something in African bubinga wood, which is approximately 53% harder than maple and birch. Starclassic Bubinga shells are slightly thicker than those in Tama's Starclassic maple series. Tama's builders concluded that a slightly thicker bubinga shell brought out the best characteristics of the wood: a more aggressive attack, a fuller deep/dark tone, a more powerful resonance, and unbelievably rich, fat lows. These drum shells are made of 8-ply bubinga plus one outer ply maple shell for optimal finish characteristics. Tom drum plies are 7mm thick, bass drum plies are 8mm thick.
The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro-drums. Now it has a more streamlined designed, making it easier to position toms closer together. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. Star-Cast is also now plated to match your drum's shell hardware.
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops was so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For the Starclassic Bubinga, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and much more powerful rim shots.
Starclassic's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.
Tama's MSB30 die-cast bracket holds the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.
Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better playing.
The Hold Tight washer is a totally new and unique invention: a non-loosening washer. Its cup-shaped stainless steel washer contains a rubber ring so the tension rod pushes both the cup washer and the rubber ring. Normally, vibrations will eventually loosen the tension rod. But the softness of Hold Tight's rubber ring keeps it in contact with both the tension rod and the hoop at all times and maintains friction between them, so that tension is always preserved.
Evans drum heads are featured on all Starclassic Bubinga drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

So even though I don't specifically own this configuration, I do own a 2006 7 piece all bubinga Star Classic from Tama so I will give you my thoughts. First of all everyhing about this set screams Pro level kit from the hardware to the finish and to the over all construction of this kit. It's built like a cadillac and a Army tank had a hybrid baby ready for all things possible. I've played all kinds of drum kits from Pearl masters, DW Collectors, Gretch Renowns, and everything in between and none of them come even close to this Bubinga kit made by the best drums in the world, TAMA. The sound is rich and dark with rediculous punch and attack but also has a warm over tone. It's like no other kit on the market. All the hardware is top notch Die-cast, from the hoops to the lugs. The shells themselves are very well crafted and are visibly gourgous from the laquer finish to the oiled innner ply, it's literally eye candy. Sometimes I Catch myself starring at them for long periods of time and don't even realize how much time has passed. Ok so I can go on all day about these things, but to sum it up in a nut shell. They are just an incredible piece of are and very much Elite level drums. Worth every single cent. GET EM. I mean REALLY GET EM!!!
PLEASE IF YOU BUY THIS KIT!! do NOT tune it high...That is the key to this great sounding set...I started off tuning kinda high and not really getting to experience the great sound until I lowered everything a bit. The lows and attack from the toms are like nothing I have ever played before, Maple cant hold a candle to it. The bass drum needs not be muffled but when you do....dear lord. I play in a studio situation all the time and every time its recorded we all just laugh about how great it sounds...Ive had this kit for a year now and even after a new set of heads it just keeps getting better, if you buy this kit, you wont be sorry, you'll be envied...
