I went to my local GC a few weeks ago and was shocked to find one of these there. I was really excited to try one out, since I loved the Iron Cobra so much. I immediately could tell a difference between this pedal and the Pearl Demon Eliminator. While the Demon Eliminator is very smooth, it doesn't give you the power you need when going really fast (200+ bpm). The Speed Cobra is just as smooth, even with a chain, and delivers power unlike any other pedal I have ever played. And, at almost half the price of the Eliminator, it's a great value, too. Can't wait to pick up one of these things for myself

Im going to be as short and sweet with this review as i can. Ive owned my speed cobras for 3 years now. overall the pedal is good for mid level drummers. they are extremely heavy and sometimes tire you out when playing long shows. Ive had to replace both sets of springs 3 times now(Good customer service from Tama) The beaters are very bad, ive busted i dont know how many heads just because of the beater, i had to change the angle of the beater head and add a protector on my kickdrum to stop my head from breaking. If you are looking for pedals that wont break(besides the spring) then id recommend these. If you want to spend the extra money and get a way better product. Buy DW 9000 pedals. PS. the Cobra coil is useless

UNBELIEVABLE!

By Adam Pecho

from monee, Illinois

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I stopped by Guitar Center one day to pick up some sticks and saw that these pedals had come in that same day. i had to ask to take em out and give em a try. I was interested in upgrading to the iron cobras. but there is no doubt in my mind that my next set of pedals will be the speed cobras. they are the most fantastic pedals of all time. smoother than direct drive and has the power to maintain a steady double pattern at high speeds without triggers

POWER HOUSE Pedal

By Alex

from Tennessee

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

First i want to start off saying I have been playing drums for the past 15 years and have never done a product review. Before making the final decesion on these pedals i tried as many as i could get a hold of. The axis longboards , the pearl demon , all of the D.W. pedals , and alot of yamaha pedals. This pedal hits like a freight train its the hardest hitting pedal I have ever ran accross. This pedal is fast very fast and Extremley controlable. I made zero adjustments right out of the box I bolted this pedal on the drum and immediatley feell in love with it. its so freaking smooth and powerfull and after playing this pedal I am affraid all other pedals fail in comparison. I love the longboard i have played splitboards for 15 years and will never go back your feet always have enough room on the pedal and the sweet spot on the pedal is much larger. I also love the spring that tama puts under the foot board when your playing the pedal is always there your never out running the pedal you play with confidence knowing each hit will be smooth and POWERFUL and also its a blast to play.

The Steel Cobra?

By C-Money

from Boston Massachusetts

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This is a very good pedal. I am a previous owner of an iron cobra jr. Iron cobra power glide, DW 5000 and 9000, and an axis longboards. while i love my axis, this pedal has power and speed on lock. I can REALLY fly on my axis but i always come back to my speed cobras. The only issue I had was the beater. It can easily slip through your skin. A Falam Slam or you can adjust the angle of the beater. Basicly if your looking for a new pedal. Think about this instead of the overpriced and overrated demon drive

Spectacular

By Matt

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

As a metal drummer, ours songs require a lot of double bass, and with this pedal, i get a smooth feel and a pedal that takes away some of the work for you, and lets you keep on drumming for even longer. These pedals are built very sturdily, and they are the most affordable long boards out there. Plenty of adjust-ability options, and a very solid feel, the only thing i don't like is the beaters, they will go through heads faster then normal beaters, but besides that, a great pedal, and i will be getting singles when i get my second bass drum so i can still have the smoothness and power.

Nice Pedal!

By Bernie Sabag

from Oceanside, NY

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I have a size 14 shoe and these are great for me. They are extra long and play smoother than the axis longboards! I recommend this pedal for anyone looking for a new pedal. My only concern is dnt smash on them too hard because it will damage the drum head due to the shape of the beater

This Is the definition of a double chain pedal that is fast

By My Name Is My Name

from auburn Ma

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I went to the the local guitar center the other day. I saw a demon drive, this(speed cobra), and a dw 9000. I played the demon for a while then realized that that is no ordinary pedal. its an overpriced pedal but if you have the skill it can be very nice. Then comes the speed cobra ( a.k.a. speed cobra) I loved it and could feel the people that made it in my foot. So like any ordinary white man, I bought it. Now I can play with a speed cobra. I recommend this piece of golden pie crust. Now if you buy it, you will have it.

Average Pedal! Expected Better from Tama!

By DrummerG

from Fairfield Ca

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Average pedal for $400. The slave beater wobbles slightly back and forth,so when you are hitting the bass head the slave shifts to the left/right. It just isnt very stable. I will attach a video explaining in better details. Guitar Center screws you on internet returns, they charge a re-stocking fee so i didn't return this item. I will continue to use it but in a year or so it will be on craigslist/ebay and i will get a high end pedal and just end the madness.I should have went with axis /Trick pro V. I tried like to covey this to Tama but they never responded to my complaints. I have tried to tighten everything to stop the wobbling but it is just a part of the $400 i spent. Thumbs down. Only piece of Tama equipment i have and will be the last. I will post video to show the problem. This pedal sucks. drummerg.com

You can never go wrong with Tama.

By Leroy Porras

from El Paso Texas

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I had been using Tama Iron Cobras for six years now and they have never failed me. Even the ones that I bought used have not caused me any problems. However, I have been training a lot recently because I wanted to improve my technique and tighten my chops. As I result, I wanted to play more complicated rhythms and fills. I needed something fast and responsive, so I nailed it down to Axis or the Speed Cobras. I was originally going to buy Axis pedals but due to technical complications (I'm a left hander), the best choice was the Speed Cobras. Like the Iron Cobras, the Speed Cobras are easy to dismantle and maintain (which is important for me because I literally have to switch everything around to convert to a lefty double pedal). At the time, I was worried that the Speed Cobras would turn out to be and over-glorified chain drive pedal. But those worries were relinquished once I set them up. Out of the box, there was already a massive improvement from the Iron Cobra's. In fact, they felt better than a lot of pedals I had tried ranging from direct drive to different brands such as Pearl or DW. The long boards really give me a lot of power and the other improvements, such as the spring under the pedal, really make this pedal super responsive. I only made a few adjustments. It takes a little time to get used to, but that is evident with any speed pedal at first. The Speed Cobras are comparable to many other more expensive direct drive pedals. I would advise that you try these out and see if you like them. In the end, it's all about preference. The only problem I had so far was that the threading on one of the screws was mangled. but it wasn't a huge deal and it's a one in a million fluke. I haven't had any problems with the beaters killing my heads but I hear they tend to wear them down. Aside from that, the price is very reasonable considering that you get the same quality of other high end pedals at half the price in some cases. These pedals are worth every penny.

Pros

  • Fast
  • Heel Plate
  • Long Board
  • Slave Pedal Has No Lag

Cons

  • Stock Beater

Best Uses

  • Anything Drums

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I use this on both my e-kit and my Tama imperialstar. YES you need a patch to protect your head for the stock beater. (DUH) But if you buy the rubber or wooden IRON COBRA beaters and replace them it makes the pedal 100 times better. Ive never had ANYTHING break with my pedals. No springs, no heads, and do not tire me out. (seriously? tire you out?) Things breaking my be a factory defect, but let me just say NEVER TIGHTEN SPRINGS ALL THE WAY FIRST!!! Its bad for it! Stretch that spring out first!
