Fastball Bearing

Based on the super accurate bearing used in PC hard drives, ABS systems in automobiles, and so on. This ultraprecise machined technology produces highly accurate revolving movement and high durability in even the toughest environment.

LiteSprocket

Tama adopted a true round-shaped "LiteSprocket" for a natural feel and smooth action. Compared with Iron Cobra's sprocket, this version decreases its weight by 40%. It revolves naturally and smoothly, providing a lighter feel.

Projector Beater

Specially designed for Speed Cobra to give the bass drum more sound projection and rich resonance. The convex shaped head focuses the power generated by the beater stroke's action to the smaller surface area. This angle gives you a more focused attack and punchy sonic penetration. Rotate the beater head for larger surface contact and get a fatter sound with extremely powerful volume.

Super Spring

The newly developed Super Spring needs less momentum in the beginning of pedal action. When the beater rebounds from the bass drum head, you can easily feel a quicker response, and by adjusting the Cobra Coil underneath the footboard you can acquire a smoother feel.

Features
  • Fastball Bearing

I went to my local GC a few weeks ago and was shocked to find one of these there. I was really excited to try one out, since I loved the Iron Cobra so much. I immediately could tell a difference between this pedal and the Pearl Demon Eliminator. While the Demon Eliminator is very smooth, it doesn't give you the power you need when going really fast (200+ bpm). The Speed Cobra is just as smooth, even with a chain, and delivers power unlike any other pedal I have ever played. And, at almost half the price of the Eliminator, it's a great value, too. Can't wait to pick up one of these things for myself

Im going to be as short and sweet with this review as i can. Ive owned my speed cobras for 3 years now. overall the pedal is good for mid level drummers. they are extremely heavy and sometimes tire you out when playing long shows. Ive had to replace both sets of springs 3 times now(Good customer service from Tama) The beaters are very bad, ive busted i dont know how many heads just because of the beater, i had to change the angle of the beater head and add a protector on my kickdrum to stop my head from breaking. If you are looking for pedals that wont break(besides the spring) then id recommend these. If you want to spend the extra money and get a way better product. Buy DW 9000 pedals. PS. the Cobra coil is useless

Dont understand how there are any bad reviews.

By Djohn Mema The Drum RKOer

from Pittsburgh, PA

Pros

  • Adjustable
  • Fast
  • Heel Plate
  • Long Board
  • Slave Pedal Has No Lag

Cons

  • Stock Beater

Best Uses

  • Anything Drums

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I use this on both my e-kit and my Tama imperialstar. YES you need a patch to protect your head for the stock beater. (DUH) But if you buy the rubber or wooden IRON COBRA beaters and replace them it makes the pedal 100 times better. Ive never had ANYTHING break with my pedals. No springs, no heads, and do not tire me out. (seriously? tire you out?) Things breaking my be a factory defect, but let me just say NEVER TIGHTEN SPRINGS ALL THE WAY FIRST!!! Its bad for it! Stretch that spring out first!

Like playing on a cloud...

By Devin

from Duluth, Minnesota

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

As an experienced double-petal player, I was looking for something to expand my expertise. I was at the point where my old petal was holding back my ability, in speed and accuracy. I had been looking at Iron Cobras, and this one stood out. Literally 20 minutes into using this petal, I noticed a huge difference in my playing. I've had this now for about 2 weeks, and I am faster and more accurate than ever. Not to mention these petals SOUND amazing on a dampened, tight bass drum! I don't know if I would go all out with this product as a beginner looking for your first double petal, but compared to any other petal, these will feel like playing a cloud! Your money will not be spent in vein. Not to mention all the awesome adjustable features of this petal, including the beater head angle. If you are looking for a step up in a double petal, look no further.

Awesome pedals for the price

By Nathan Mitchell

from Blaine, Minnesota

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I just recently bought these pedals used and they are awesome!!! I've tried new ones at guitar center and the used ones still felt like they were out of the box. They are super responsive and adjustable so it may take some time to get used to and figure out were you're most comfortable because these are big pedals. If you can get these pedals used and not spend top dollar go for it, but if you prefer new over used that's ok because these are amazing!!!

Wow, Super Smooth Double Pedal!

By Mark Galbadores

from California

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I'm very impressed with the Speed Cobras. I like the long footboard which allows for more room especially when using different techniques. These pedals are very smooth. I've only had mine for a week now, but it does take some getting used to. I didn't make any adjustments and they play really well out of the box. What I like most is that you don't feel a delay on the left foot pedal almost as if you were playing a single pedal on both feet which is amazing. I've tried every double pedal out there and so far, these double pedals are the best. The only thing is that the carrying case it comes with is a bit bulky.

THE BEST PEDAL IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Jeff McInnis

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This is my first double kick pedal, and let me just say this, THIS IS THE BEST PEDAL OUT THERE. It is a little high in price, but after trying dw, gilbrator, premier, sp, and axis longboards, these are by far the best. I play worship (not in any heavy metal stuff) and these work great. I think the work for any style of music and you wont be disatisfied. I enjoy how you can adjust the beater postion on the beater itself. AMAZING.

It's About Time - Common Sense

By Carleton Norris

from Birch Run, MI

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Look, you can read the reviews all day long and never read what is important about these pedals. Finally, a common sense pedal for the drummer. This Para-Clamp II keeps the pedal flat even when I tilt my bass drum; they quickly fold up and go back into the case without some form of dis-assembly; the easy adjustable angle of the beater head will please any style of music. The smooth foot board has a great feel and the speed to transition into any techniques or style. To top all of that, they have incorporated many other features: the Cobra coil, lite sprocket, the super spring, and the fast ball bearing. My point is that all of these features are in one pedal. For instance, I've been playing Pearl Belt-Drive Power Shifter Eliminator Pedals for a long time. The reason I like that pedal is because I could adjust the pedal to the playing head with different cams. On the other hand, the Tama Speed Cobra pedals has the adjustments built in, so that I can make the pedal fit my playing style and not the other way around. My advice is to take your time to work with the pedal adjustments to find your perfect setup and you will be amazed at how well these pedals play. They will greatly improve your skills as a drummer.

Excellent pedal

By Tripp Garvin

from Atlanta Ga

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Ive been playing for about 20 years now. This is the pedal I've been looking for during all of those years of play. I've owned Pearl, DW and I've played trick, and Axis. This pedal is the perfect mix of speed and feel. I've played direct drive pedals that have had no feel and I've played chain drives that felt extremely slow. The speed cobras are the perfect mix of long boards and chain drive. The build quality is extremely. I've never seen build quality like the speed cobras. These attributes make a pedal that is extremely fast, has a great deal of feel and will last a long, long time. In this instance price is not the end all be all. Do yourself a favor and don't get suckered into the direct drive fad without directly comparing them with this pedal.

Fantastic Pedal

By justin ashworth

from Orange, CT

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Tama is a great brand and they nailed it with the speed cobra. It is fast if you want, controllable when you need it, and extremely good quality. When I was on the market for a pedal I obviously tested the demon drives, and the axis, but this one felt right as soon as i played it. Love the longboards, great power and speed, definitely not light hitting pedals. If you are used to chain driven like I am, the demon drives just felt extremely soft, and lacked that quick and powerful throw of the beater. This is honestly a great pedal. Owned for about 6 months now with no issues.

You can never go wrong with Tama.

By Leroy Porras

from El Paso Texas

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I had been using Tama Iron Cobras for six years now and they have never failed me. Even the ones that I bought used have not caused me any problems. However, I have been training a lot recently because I wanted to improve my technique and tighten my chops. As I result, I wanted to play more complicated rhythms and fills. I needed something fast and responsive, so I nailed it down to Axis or the Speed Cobras. I was originally going to buy Axis pedals but due to technical complications (I'm a left hander), the best choice was the Speed Cobras. Like the Iron Cobras, the Speed Cobras are easy to dismantle and maintain (which is important for me because I literally have to switch everything around to convert to a lefty double pedal). At the time, I was worried that the Speed Cobras would turn out to be and over-glorified chain drive pedal. But those worries were relinquished once I set them up. Out of the box, there was already a massive improvement from the Iron Cobra's. In fact, they felt better than a lot of pedals I had tried ranging from direct drive to different brands such as Pearl or DW. The long boards really give me a lot of power and the other improvements, such as the spring under the pedal, really make this pedal super responsive. I only made a few adjustments. It takes a little time to get used to, but that is evident with any speed pedal at first. The Speed Cobras are comparable to many other more expensive direct drive pedals. I would advise that you try these out and see if you like them. In the end, it's all about preference. The only problem I had so far was that the threading on one of the screws was mangled. but it wasn't a huge deal and it's a one in a million fluke. I haven't had any problems with the beaters killing my heads but I hear they tend to wear them down. Aside from that, the price is very reasonable considering that you get the same quality of other high end pedals at half the price in some cases. These pedals are worth every penny.
