Overview

The Tama S.L.P. Vintage Poplar Maple model shell is crafted with traditional vintage shell construction of maple/poplar/maple with top and bottom reinforcement hoops. While these standard specifications are well-known and historic in the drum industry, Tama's crafting of this snare drum sets a new standard for quality of build and performance. Drum enthusiasts will appreciate the time-tested shell specification along with 8-lug design for open and vintage warm sounds that blend well in acoustic environments.

However, the innovations don't stop at the tone and appearance. Tama's work on identifying the ideal snare sound led them to develop the new hardware like the "Sound Arc" Hoops which add sustain, wider tuning range and a fuller frequency response. Hearty brass tube lugs will ensure a long lifespan for your tension rods, as well as your tune. And finally, the Starclassic Hi-Carbon Steel Snappy snares will emphasize needed punch and attack, as needed.

Great Job Tama

By Al

from Centennial, CO

Comments about Tama SLP Vintage Poplar Maple:

I purchased this snare a week ago and honestly it is a great investment. I have many wood and metal snares but this SLP Vintage maple poplar is a must have. the shell is only 6 plies with the "vintage" reinforcement hoops top and bottom with 8 lugs instead of 10 that allows the shell to resonance freely. It has a musical wash and is a bit darker than the 100% maple shell snares due to the poplar wood. The rim shots are very musical as well and it is very sensitive. I tried it at the recording studio for a session and records very nice. If you are looking for a versatile hybrid snare or looking for a different sonic color to ad to your pallet buy this snare.

Comments about Tama SLP Vintage Poplar Maple:

This snare is a bargain. Very individual with its warm, darker sound. Very gentle, pleasing overtones. Easy to tune, Can be tuned ultra-low and very high and will never choke. This snare is very very musical and a joy to play, it looks very good, too. The Vintage Poplar Maple is not the loudest snare out there but can compete against guitars and bass in classic-rock-situations. Excellent ghostnotes are a common feature on all SLPs, this one is no different. This SLP is easy to tune, easy to control, has a nice resonance, a full, open sound that is very different to most maple snares. It delivers some kindo of vintage sound but in a modern package, with high built quality.
