Overview

The Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set is the most affordable Tama drum kit ever to incorporate so many high-end features.

With over 40 years of experience, Tama knows what drummers really want. Which is why, no matter how long you've been playing the drums, no matter what budget you have to work with, Tama has the set you need, want, and can afford. Every aspect of the modern drum kit was exhaustively examined and reexamined and then improved before it was accepted as part of the Imperialstar design. Which is why, if you start playing Imperialstar now as a beginner, you'll still enjoy playing it when you've achieved pro-status. That's how good these groundbreaking drums are.

Only Tama Imperialstar comes with a complete set of genuine Meinl HCS cymbals. These high-quality brass cymbals are made in Germany and are sonically matched so they sound great together. They are even lathed for a more refined tonal character. The set includes 14" hi-hats, 16" crash and an 20" ride cymbal.

Tama Drum Shells:100% poplar 6-ply/7.5mm
Poplar wood has been used in making drum shells for over 50 years. It offers a full, warm tone combined with medium attack.

Precise Bearing Edges
A drum's bearing edge is one of the most important components in drum sound. Tama's advanced edge-cutting process provides extremely precise bearing edges-which allow Tama shells to ring openly and fully, and provide a wide range of tuneability, sensitivity, and response.

100% Glued Finishes
Some drum companies only affix their wraps to the drum shell by taping the finish at "selected contact points." At Tama, all wrapped finishes are glued to the shell 100% to eliminate warping, buzzing, or lifting. This process allows the shell to resonate fully and consistently. It's more work, but Tama feels the extra effort is worth it, for a difference you can see and hear.

Original Small Lugs
Imperialstar lugs are 10% smaller than the lugs of Tama's previous Swingstar Series for even greater shell resonance.

Drum Heads
Batter-side heads are made of clear 250 microns-thick film for richer tone and greater durability. Ring mufflers on bass drum heads remove the need for additional internal muffling.

Accu-Tune Bass Drum Hoops
A special-formulation hi-tech material offers lighter weight and faster, more stable, tuning than traditional metal hoops. In addition, since Accu-Tune hoops use tension bolts instead of clawhooks and T-rods, head changes and packing up are a breeze.

Spur Brackets
Imperialstar spur bracket features the same look and style as Tama's high-end Starclassic drums and provides maximum durability and stability.

Tom Holder
Tama L-Rod and Omnisphere tom holder systems have received acclaim from drummers for over 25 years. These systems offer easy positioning, maximum flexibility, stability, and greater sound than standard designs which penetrate the shell interior and can inhibit resonance.

Tom Brackets
The eye-bolt structure is rock solid, holding the toms in place securely.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I was looking at entry level kits, and found this one. I was told this kit was a step up, but based on what I compared it is much more than a step up. Very quality, good price. I found it on sale and that made it even better.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

Got this set for my grandson and for home recording. I'm a keyboard player not a drummer so im not fully qualified to fully critique drums. I can report this is a quality made set. High hat not quite as smooth as the ones the pros play. The heads are loud and will need to be replaced. Used styrofoam to muffle the bass drum. I'm confident I can make the set sound good. In retrospect wish I'd gotten a pro set. You do get a lot for your money. Cymbals aren't bad but I may replace with higher quality. Snare will have to be replaced immediately as it does not sound good. There are good low cost ones available. Stands are quality and drums are well made. Bottom line is this is a great set for someone just starting to learn drums not for pros.

        worthwhile

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

Overall, for the price, I am happy with this set. However, I did immediately upgrade to a higher quality Sabian set of cymbals: a much better sound than the lower quality Meinl. I am also disappointed in the snare attachment, and higher pitch due to its size (I prefer a larger snare drum with a deeper sound), so I upgraded. And to round it out I acquired to extra boom stands for a splash and china to complete my cymbal ensemble, and a Mapex double bass pedal. Except for the snare, as previously mentioned, I am very satisfied with the Tama shells. The tom toms, floor tom, and bass (once adjusted to my specifications) sound really sharp and warm. Although, I did put in a damper pillow in the bass to get the required effect. But this set now sounds nearly as good as my two other sets, a Ludwig and Premier (each of which cost thousands more than I spent on this set). This is an excellent set for beginners right out of the box... and with a few upgrades and fine tuning it can make a good working set for smaller to medium sized gigs.

        Great Drum Set

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I don't know...I sort of like the Imperial Star design on the face of the bass drum. With that stupidity said...love this drum set. Nice warm sound, crisp snare, solid hardware, handles the road without any damages so far, sounds good in studio. I will expand the set to include an additional bass and ride tom to give me that three across run and double beat on the bass. I have had my basic set for about five years.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I am overall completely satisfied with this product, from the drums themselves, to the cymbal mates, and everything in between. The drums, cymbals, and hardware are stable and strong, and so are the sounds. The only issue I had were the felt snare bands that tied the snares to the drum. Since they were felt and since I keep everything on my snare tight, one of the felt bands ripped, and I am now using a twine sort of material to tie it on. The snare still has a great crack to it regardless. I am absolutely glad I have this product.

Great beginner set. Includes hit hat, ride, crash, throne and heads. With Meinl promo pack includes sticks and 10inch crash. Sounds decent to my beginner ears. Put some tape on heads and a pillow in the bass. Taking lessons and it sounds better after leaning how to play them! I am 40 years old and I highly recommend learning drums for health!

For the price I think it's an amazing product. I got this kit for small gigs and it has a great tone. (Note:We did switch out the drum heads and symbols). The ones included are great to start off though. Also they color is beautiful, we chose the vintage red.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I liked that the set came with cymbals of a relatively descent sound. The set itself is great! Louder than a disco car with a 250 watt bass amp!! When you're playing hardcore and you're a hard hitter. They passed the test and at a great price! The snare sounds great but the strainer comes loose a lot. The plastic rings on the bass drum has held up as well! Impressive for a starting set and one I would use on stage.

This is a great kit for it's price. Slightly above beginner pricing, but in an attractive package for a beginner. Ditch the Meinl's as soon as possible, as they are worse than lowest end Sabians. It is a little ringy, so I'd replace all res and batter heads, and the snare wires aren't great so swap those too. But with good heads and some patient tuning these sound pretty great. But I'm here to answer the real questions: Does it djent? And the answer is, yes it can djent, and it's none too shabby at it.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

Our daughter started in the school band over the past year and was highly praised by her band director. We decided to have her start taking drum lessons outside of school, and that teacher also praised her abilities. He had lesson plans for 7 weeks that she finished in 2. So, she has a bit of talent we thought should be developed. In speaking with her drum teacher about a few "starter" kits, we decided on this one. After a few ordering hiccups, the set finally arrived. Never having been exposed to drums myself, I still found the instructions easy to follow and got the set put together in short order. I had the drum teacher come and check it out and he was very impressed. The set went together quickly and needed very little tuning on his part. He was also impressed with the quality and completeness of the kit. Needless to say, our daughter absolutely LOVES this kit. The biggest issue with the kit is that is hard to keep her off of it!! I feel it was a very good investment, even if I hadn't gotten it on sale. I would most definitely recommend to anyone looking to get into drumming.
