Overview

The Cobra Clutch is a completely new instrument based on an entirely different concept than the drop clutch or auxiliary hi-hats. Instead of activating the hi-hats with the hands and simply letting the top hi-hat drop on the bottom hi-hat, the Cobra Clutch activates the hi-hats the way they should be: with the feet and with control. Plus the Cobra Clutch has something else a drop clutch doesn't: You can set how closed or open you want the hi-hats. It took Tama's designers two years to perfect the Cobra Clutch. But because they did such a thorough job, it will you take you almost no time at all to incorporate the Cobra Clutch into your playing.

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

i got this last year, and just now getting around to commenting. I gave it a 4/5 only because of 2 things:

1) sure it's fairly quick to setup if you don't care about the fine tuning points. If you are picky about how tight or loose your HH is when your foot is elsewhere, then this thing takes time to adjust. The adjustment is chimp easy, but just takes time, and you may have to adjust it several times before you're happy with the sound. Once all is tightened down, it's a marvelous invention. Very consistent across setups.

2) It takes getting used to. Practicing with your left foot moving to and from double bass parts of a song or a routine that you like is just about the only way to get the feel for it. It's not fussy or tricky, it's just different and requires discipline. This means that one should not play on stage or in a live performance until it's very close to mastered. It's all in the heel and ankle movement.

TAMA engineers did a stellar job on this clutch, and i'm glad to have one.

Si Senor

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

this clutch is far superior to any and all drop-clutches i've used in the past. this thing is easy to set up, super-sturdy, super-fast response, and can get your hi-hats as tight as if you were applying all your weight to close them. GET THIS CLUTCH.

So much better than a drop clutch

By Ryen

from Springfield, MO

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

This thing is great. Takes a little getting used to, but once it's dialed in you can't imagine playing without it. I love the fact that instead of just dropping the top hat you can set how open or closed you want it when you stomp on the pedal. Great for double bassing and then going right back into hi-hat patterns. Definitely worth the money.

Cobra Clutch

By Ben

from Riverton, UT

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

I read about this and figured "why not?" The only problem I saw was it might not work with my three legged hi-hat stand. With the help of a friend, i got it on and playing in about ten minutes. It is so easy to use, and so convenient. All my other friends are jealous I have such an awesome piece of equipment.

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

My son bought a kit and i'm back to playing after a long absence. I played a double bass set back in 1969 and we had nothing like this available to us. Helps to add another diamention to your playing.I love it.Easy to set up, easy to work into your drumming. Don't let the price scare you.

COBRA CLUTCH ROCKS!

By misc. drummer

from SW Washington State

Comments about Tama Cobra Clutch:

As a drummer that likes using both double kick and hi-hat pedals equally this thing is clutch!(pun intended)...now I can play a funky hi-hat pattern and with a flick of the heel I can LOWER(not drop) my top hat to a preset height, while rolling through a tasty fill, and fly into double bass fury with the perfect hi-hat sound, and without missing a beat(or 2) to slap the drop clutch with a stick that should be hitting something else. Ya its 5 or 6 times more $$$ than a decent drop-clutch, and its one more thing to haul around, But it looks, and works amazing with my Iron Cobra double kick and hi-hat pedals. It took a little time to get used to, but after a good hour of practice it started becoming automatic and now all three pedals just flow together. You could probably live without one but once you try it you won't want to give it back.
