Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare (101273670)

Designed to sonically replicate the sound of Stewart Copeland's snare used on all those Police hits.

The Stewart Copeland snare drum, a Tama signature model, is a faithful reproduction of the snare drum of "mysterious provenance" that Stewart used with the Police and everything else from that time period. This Copeland snare sound easily penetrates what he describes as "the dirge from the bass and the ear-piecing sounds of a guitar." That penetrating sound is the result of combining a die-cast batter hoop and a triple-flanged bottom hoop with a brass shell that is 0.5mm thicker than the standard 1mm shell.

In trying to replicate Stewart Copeland's snare drum on which he recorded all those Police hits, Tama measured the diameter and all of the specs until it came down to metallurgy--the mixture of metals metals. After many prototypes, Tama matched the sound of Copeland's original and set up production to duplicate it consistently. Now you can capture that punchy, piercing sound in your kit.

Amazing snare! Exceeded my expectations by a mile. It's got an amazing crisp snap which makes your double strokes sound beautiful. I played a ton of different snares before I bought it, and the ones that were twice the price didn't sound this good! It's a beast!

  • Average Snare

As reviewed by Coldfront777 on 10/23/2006

When I first got the Stewart Copeland Signature Snare Drum two years ago, I was ecstatic because it sounded so much better than the snare that came with my kit. Now that I've played other snare drums, I've come to realize that there is nothing special about this drum. It is a ten lug aluminum snare, just like half the other snare drums on the market. This drum has quite a few overtones, so a Remo O-ring or putting tape on the batter head should take care of this. Rim shots sound average also. The best feature on this drum is the ability to accurately tune the tension of the snare.

  • Nothing Compares

As reviewed by Daniel Stevens on 11/13/2006

The Stewart Copleand is by far the best snare drum on the market today. With so may different snares on the market to choose from. The question is, Which one to choose? If you are looking for snare drum that will deliver each time is the one for you. You could not ask for a better drum. Excellcent yet simple construction , fabulous sound quality, and a price that will not break your checkbook. The 1.5 thick Brass shell creates a killer sound. The chrome finish adds a great touch and look to the drum. A great tribute to one of the greatest drummers of our time.
