  I JUST GOT THIS KIT.I SOLD MY OCDP SILVER SPARKLE 4-PIECE NEWPORT THAT ORIGINALY COST $1500 PLUS TAX.I HAD A 2004 TAMA STARCLASSIC BIRCH PERFORMER IN AZTEC FADE FINISH.THEY WERE WAY BETTER SOUNDING THAN THE OCDP NEWPORT MAPLE KIT.MY BASS DRUM EVEN BLEW AWAY THE OCDP MAPLE 20" DEEP KICK.SO I SAW THESE SILVERSTAR ALL BIRCH KITS FROM TAMA,I HAD ALREADY WANTED ANOTHER TAMA BIRCH KIT.IT HAS NICER FEATURES THAN THE OLD TAMA STARCLASSIC I OWNED FOR 7 YEARS.I LOVE IT THE NEW COATED BASS RESONANT HEAD TAMA PUT ON THESE SOUNDS AMAZING.I CHANGED THE HEADS TO EVANS EMAD ON BASS BATTER,EC2'S ON THE TOMS BATTER HEADS & CLEAR G1'S ON THE RESONANT SIDE,PUT A SET OF PURE SOUND SNARES & A HAZY 300 RESONANT HEAD ON SNARE SIDE,& A G1 FOR A BATTER HEAD.THE SOUND BLEW MY MIND.BUY THIS KIT,YOU'LL NEED TO REPLACE THE HEADS TO GET THE FULL DEEP GREAT SOUND OF THIS KIT.I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR MY LAST TAMA BIRCH STARCLASSIC.IF YOU WANT A REALY WANT A NICE PRO QUALITY KIT WITH FULL, DEEP, SUSTAIN IN YOU TOMS, AND DEEP LOUD THUMP FROM YOUR KICK, AND A LOUD CRACK FROM YOU SNARE.GO WITH THESE SILVERSTAR BIRCH DRUMS.I WOULD RATHER RECORD WITH THESE THAN ANY OTHER KIT I'VE OWNED,ACCEPT THE OTHER BIRCH STARCLASSIC THEY SOUND THE SAME WITH THE RIGHT HEADS AND TUNED THE SAME.I KEEP GOING BACK TO TAMA,BECAUSE OF THE QUALITY & PAST GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH THEM.IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER.CHECK THESE OUT ON TAMA'S WEB SITE.I GIVE THEM A 5 OUT OF 5 RATING.YOU GET WAY MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR.IF THEY CHANGED THE LUGS,HOOPS,HEADS,STARCAST MOUNTS AND PUT STARCLASSIC PARTS ON IT,THEY COULD BE ASKING $1500 FOR A 4-PIECE KIT.YOU CAN BUY TWO OF THE 6-PIECE VERSION OF THIS KIT FOR THAT PRICE.YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU PURCHASED THIS KIT.

• Tama Silverstar gets a GOLD star!

  I grew up on Tama and tried Gretsch, Pearl and most recently Ludwigs. Although they are all nice instruments I started looking at going back home to Tama (Birch) drums and came accross the new Silverstars. After doing a lot of online comparisons and listening on Youtube I made the decision to pounce on these beauties and I'm glad I did. Out of the box the Bass is huge with the stock heads. I just put a foam beading pad in for muffling, not wide enough to touch the heads and it sounds killer. The snare has a lot of bite for the price and I left the stock head on as well. I did put a 2" piece of felt on the under side of the batter head secured by black duct tape, Perfect! I've replaced the batter heads with Evans EC2 coated and they sound warm and punchy cranked up or down. The hardware is awesome and strong as usual with Tama. I went for the Sky Blue Sparkle and they look and sound great. I'm very happy with the purchase and the service I got from Guitar Center. This is the best kit I've owned and when you factor in the VERY reasonable price your can't go wrong, I've owned more expensive kits but never got the sound that inspired me like the Tama Silverstar birch!
