  • This drum definately made an impression...wow!!

As reviewed by graham976 on 8/9/2009

I've played many snare drums - Tama's Gmaple, Starclassic maple, Bubinga, brass, a couple Warlords as well as others like Pacific, Ludwig, Pearl, etc....most of which are great snare drums. The Metalworks is among those that are great, and it's loud!! I'm sure it's not the loudest snare drum out there, but it's definately the loudest I've ever played. I don't want to tell you that this is the greatest snare drum for the money. Mainly because there are too many great snare drums to just own one...at least in my opinion. The Metalworks is definately an amazing snare drum to have in your arsenal though. Now whether your a Drummer on a budget or not, if your looking for a steel snare, than this my recommendation. At least consider it, I'm certainly glad I did. I changed the batter hoop to a Tama die cast. The drum sounded great with the original flanged hoop. It had open bright highs, great rimshot, very responsive, etc, etc. I was just curious about the die cast, and it made an impression...it's louder & "cuts". It has focused "attack", a strong "crack" when you crank it, killer rimshot, and still has the sharp overtones most would want from steel snare drum. Now...I've been just talking about the 5.5 x 14...yeah. I'm curious about 6.5 x 14...the volume...wow! The Metalworks looks sharp with all the black features and has all the quality you would expect from Tama...it's well worth the money.

  • Amazing Quality for its price range!

As reviewed by praetorian_08 on 8/27/2008

I can't say enough good things about this snare. I got the 13"x6.5" and its awesome! Very nice crackly tone. Perfect for me. An awesome snare to use for heavier musical genres.

  • Amazing Low-end drive

As reviewed by Mitch on 2/5/2008

This snare is an amazing snare for the money. I have the 6.5 x 13 and it is perfect for me. It is easily tunable with a Evans Genera G2 Head cause you can get the powerful low end and the crisp upper end. This snare is worth the money.
