Bought my EG544sc Koa about a month ago and do consider it a good buy for the buck. And as several have noted it is a beautiful instrument, the Koa wood and full body binding compliments it's overall appearance quite well. Like almost any guitar hanging on the local music stores rack, though they be the same model, you really have to examine and play each one to determine which is best for you, no two are identical. There were two when I bought mine and the other had sloppy glue work visible on the bridge as well as on the internal bracing in the soundhole, action was real high, actually I couldn't believe Guitar Center accepted it for in store stock, much less putting it on display. As an acoustic guitar I can't rate it real high, it lacks the warmth one might expect from a cedar top and the tone is a bit erratic and undefined. But plugged into my PA or amp it definately comes to life, afterall a decent AE in the $500.00 range is what I was looking for, when I need great acoustic quality I'll simply grab my Martin. A guitar is like any other tool one chooses for a job, you have to ask yourself what application you are intending to use it for. If your looking for a fair deal on an very attractive AE for plugging into the mix this would definately be a good consideration. But if you have expectations for a great sounding acoustic you may be disappointed. The neck is narrow, almost like an electric, comfortable and easy to navigate. The tuner works okay but you'll find yourself fine tuning a bit despite what the tuner may be telling you, well if you truly have an ear for pitch. It's a very light guitar and seems well suited for the stage and long practice sessions, I give it a solid 4.5 down the board.

our church bought this guitar a couple years back but i dont know what they were thinking when they bought it!!! the sound that you get from this guitar is trashy.... the reason i dont give it a 1 is because if u have it connected it to an ok amp, the sound changes to a warmer sound.... still not a great choice for an acoustic

    Takamine Koa A/E

    By Mister Beagle

    from Va Beach, VA

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for 500$, but this guitar is wonderful. The cutaway has a comfortable angle for the higher frets. The projection is very good even with the action low, and there is absolutely no fret buzz. The tone is good, it could be a bit warmer, but still tasty. Hooked up to an amp, it sounds very clear and noticible. I could've payed twice as much for this guitar for it's value.

Competes with much higher end guitars

    By Steve

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Hands down, this guitar sounded far better than several higher end guitars. I had been looking for a long time and even considered others until I put this one in my hands. I am exstatic every time I pick it up. Even my friends who play Martin and Taylor guitars love this one. But hey, did I mention that it looks as awesome as it sounds??? Unplugged t is bright and resonate. Plugged, this guitar comes alive and rings like a bell! You gotta' try thi one!

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a replacement guitar and was looking at a thousand dollar Breedlove when this guitar caught my eye from the corner of the room. After picking it up and playing it I just couldn't resist it! Such amazing sound for such a good price. Great electronics, beautiful look, and great play. Simply Irresistible.

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is an excellent guitar, and i really lucked out with it, i knew practically nothing about guitars when i originally purchased it, and looking back on my naivety i wouldn't have bought anything else even with double the budget, this guitar is simply amazing and has been my best friend of the past few years, and im thinking about buying a brother for it soon. Takamine is the way to go.

    Outstanding guitar!!!

    By Ronnie "D\

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Takamine EG544SC is just awesome... The cedar top and Koa back and sides make this one of the most beautiful guitars I have seen. The wood on mine is very light and the wood grain really stands out. The wood sings like the guitar itself. It plays like a dream and the sound is especially sweet through an amp. Great guitar, great price...Buy it!

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have paid more for less quality. I spent about 2 hrs looking at several accoustic guitars. From Martins to Breedloves. This one sounded and played as good or better than the high dollar competitors. No lookin back. One hell of a guitar!

    EG544SC

    By Brandon

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I picked up this guitar after looking around for quite a while. I was just looking for an upgrade from my last guitar and while taking a look at some other models this one caught my attention and never let go. Not only is it a visually stunning guitar but its got a great tone with the KOA wood. The on-board tuner is also great even though i hardly ever need it.

As pretty to look at as it is to play

    By Steve

    from Nicholasville, KY

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought my EG544SC about a month ago after a long search. For an acoustic, it has an amazingly fast neck and light action. And the deep cutaway makes it easy to access all of the frets. It is certainly a great guitar for the electric player who wants to transition to acoustic. I was surprised to know that it sounds as good unplugged as it does hooked up to an amp. The filtering for hum in the TK40 electronics is a great "fine tune" when experience feedback and works quite well with the 3 band EQ. My favorite part of the TK40 is the mid contouring because I switch amps between practice and playing out. BUT...you have to see this one to fully appreciate it. The koa back and sides along with the cedar top produce a beautiful and unique tone...perfect for the finger-picker.

    Amazing

    By Reuben

    from Lewisville,Texas

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a amazing, if I were to give it a name I would name it terry for terrific. It has never given me a problem with its sound and stuff. Only thing is that the quarter inch plug in the side tends to get lose and during live performances the sound mighty go on and off. The best solution for that is to put your cable around the strip into the input. Other than that, it is a excellent instrument.

    Great Guitar

    By Ron J.

    from Farmington, MN

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought my EG544SC 4 days ago and can't stop playing it. I was looking for an inexpensive acoustic I could use for gigging with my band. I went to my local GC and played a few different guitars in it's price range and while I liked one of them, the EG544SC played and sounded far superior. The fit and finish is superb. It has a comfortable neck for my small hands and sounds decent unplugged, but when plugged into my Fender Acoustasonic Junior - Wow! The 3 band EQ and notch filter allow me to tweak the tone for any sound I need from Neil Young to the Beatles. A perfect guitar for the working musician and due to it's excellent workmanship, electronics, good tone and stunning looks I rate guitar this a 5 out of 5.

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing on and off since '76 and it's been awhile since I've looked at buying a Git-fiddle! but since I started giving lessons to my bosses 12 year old I've gotten a resurging interest in playing again thus went into the store and this EG544sc just jumped out at me! in my humble opinion plugged in or not this baby SINGS! smooth action and distinct sound. If you're looking for an ax that you could play at home or on stage you're going to get a unique sound Now all I need is a recording contract and millions of fans to appriciate me...LOL I'll wake up in a minute or two!!

    Not a Great Deal

    By Dont Ask Please

    from Mission Viejo, CA

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My friend owns this and first off it must use the worst quality koa available. No koa guitar is this cheap. Its just not a wood this cheap. The "koa" looks more like light cedar with painted stripes. Secondly, it sounds pretty bad. I know my friend isnt the best at getting a clean sound out of a chord(doesnt push strings down hard enough), but i tried it and it just has a bland sound that isnt clean for an acoustic guitar. My fender acoustic is so cheap and sounds better. My friend bought it just because it has "koa". Dont make that same mistake. I've played low end Taylors that sound beautiful, regardless if they dont have "koa". Takamine=Low Quality

Most amazing-sounding guitar I have ever played. Period.

    By Chris Randazzo

    from Colorado

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Though I got the Takamine EG544SC-4C, this acoustic is pretty much the same thing. I paid $600 for it, and of course, had to buy a case, humidifier, and strings, but let me tell you... If you like to play guitar and have $600, buy this. It sounds phenomenal with or without an amp, plays wonderfully all-around from the first to last fret. When looking for a guitar in-store, I tried about 8 different guitars, and this was the one that caught my ear. The sound is so deep and full, I just couldn't resist! This Takamine plays any type of music quite nicely, and is a must-buy for any guitar lover. I doubt I will ever regret purchasing this guitar, and I know the built-in tuner will come in handy all the time.

    Perfect Guitar

    By Alan Burton

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned many guitars since I began playing in the mid 60's and I have never played an acoustic guitar better than this one. The action is amazing, the neck is perfect, and the Sound is amazing. I own many guitars but this is likely to be the last acoustic I will ever purchase. I can't imagine anything that will top this guitar. For me it's the perfect guitar.

    Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar Features

    By Chuck

    from Antelope Valley, Ca

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My primary guitar is a Martin HD28 and I want it to stay at home. I wanted something I could take with me not have to worry about. The day I went shopping GC was having a 15% off sale. I looked at guitars from $299.00 to $1000.00. I played Martins, Taylors, Fenders, Breedlove and Tak's. I played several Tak's which were all over the price range. I picked up the 544SC and it had the best action. In this case, the factory set up was actually better than the others; however, there is still room for improvement. Taking into consideration, my ears are very use to the Sitka spruce top and the treble and bass is more pronounced, projects with authority; I was pleasantly surprised at the mellow intonation that the solid Cedar top and Koa laminate produces. Sounds at the top, mid and bottom seemed to have a symbiotic relationship, each depending on one another for total tonal sound when strumming, yet able to stand alone when picking, providing a ۡ̏warmۡݕ_ sound, not crisp to the ear; rather distinct notes that donۡt have too much treble or bass. The neck is a bit wider than the Martin and I enjoy picking but I was still undecided. Since I've never owned an acoustic/electric I decided I'd plug it into an amp, I selected a 60W Fishman amp.....that sound made the sale. I bought some Exilir stings which will go on after my Luthier lowers the action. Overall this was the best return on investment for the price and most pleasing to my ears, which is the deciding factor to buy or not to buy. The only reason this didn't get a 5 rating, it's not solid wood and IMHO, nothing beats the sound of solid wood. Try playing a solid cedar/solid koaۡ_.youۡll hear the difference.

    My Second Takamine

    By Don Beams

    from Silver City NM

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought a Takamine EAN20C about ten years ago, about 6 months after buying a Taylor 312CE. I bought the Taka for a second (traveling/camping) guitar and after that the Taylor saw very little action, very little. The Taka was the most butt-ugly of about 40 guitars I tried that day.. and the best-sounding, easiest to play, and truest sound all the way up the neck, a nice preamp, and everywhere I've played, the musicians either compliment the guitar or try to buy it... IT sounds really nice acoustically and kicks butt when amp'd playing fingerstyle. This is after a nasty run-in with a 130 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback, which is another story altogether... That said, I saw a brand new Takamine EG544SC online last week, lost my mind and bought it immediately. Eat your hearts out, bargain shoppers.... It arrived a couple hours ago, and it is flat out beautiful, not overdone or super flashy, great tone, great electronics with a built-in totally user-friendly tuner. Acoustically it sounds a hair brighter than the ten year old, but that may be the D'Adderio stringing. It sounds fabulous when powered up. I usually play Elixer lights, which last forEVer and eliminate chirping on the wound strings. I have a solo gig on Friday, so it will be getting a workout, But initially I am very well pleased, and continue to be impressed with Takamine craftsmanship and design. At this price, it is an excellent guitar, sounding and playing better than dozens of higher priced models. At this price, it is phenomenal guitar.

    Great Guitar for the Money

    By small_e7

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar has a great sound to it. It blew away my previous guitar. The feel is incredible. I am very comfortable whether I'm standing and it's on the strap, or sitting on my knee. I really like the look of the cutaway, and the overall look of this guitar. It's got a lot of character, and fits me well. Whether it's plugged into an amp or not, it's got a great sound. The tuner is very easy to use. I tried some other guitars out that had really confusing tuners, but I really like this one. This is an overall awesome guitar, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an acoustic-electric!

    Great Looking/Great Value

    By m3gtlewis

    from Houston, TX

Comments about Takamine EG544SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I picked this one up for around $600 with a hard case and it is my favorite in my collection now. Plays great and looks awesome as well. The cutaway is nice and the koa back/sides/neck give it a unique look. The onboard tuner is very handy (I switch from standard to open G tuning a lot) and the electronics give this guitar a great sound when plugged in, but it sounds good "unplugged" too. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good acoustic/electric cutaway.
