My pick

By brittonson

from Texas

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have recently been looking at buying a 12-string acoustic. I have a Taylor t5 and a les paul, so I like to get the best. I played the Taylor 655, the both ovation 12-strings, a Fender, and the Martin. In the end, I ended up with this guitar. It has all the warm sound of the Taylor and Martin, with a nice sounding pickup. It sounds good plugged in or unplugged and the action is nice and low. It also rings in under half price of the Taylor.

a beautiful guitar

By Dave Seyfert

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years - my main instrument is a 1968 Guild D-40 I bought new, although I use a Takamine G332 when playing for an audience so I can plug in. I play mostly folk, gospel, bluegrass and western styles, mostly for church related functions. I have always wanted a 12 string and have tried many. I finally bought this and couldn't be happier - it has a deep, rich tone; ample volume; comfortable action (bar chords are very manageable); and the spruce soundboard and flamed maple sides and back are gorgeous. I play mostly fingerpicking sytle and it reacts nicely to hammer ons/offs. And it is a bargain for the price - compares well to much higher priced guitars I tried. Once I pick it up, I can't put it down!

SWEET 12 STRING

By Fxmusician

from Cleveland ,Ohio

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought the 6 string version of this guitar,(takamine eg 523sc) and i loved it so much i had to get the 12 string too. I bought this 12 string takamine used, on ebay from a guy in nashville. It was a really good deal, but I would have paid full price, because the guitar is so good. The sound is wonderful, full, way better than my ovation 12 string. It's nice to have the cutaway, it's really comfortable to play, the action is low and easy to play,(way easier than the ovation 12 string) sounds really awesome. I love the sound of a 12 string, and this takamine just sounds so full & rich & jangly. The onboard electronics are great and sound awesome through my ultrasound amp. I totally recommend this guitar.

Pretty cool

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My father got this guitar for christmas, wanting a 12-string guitar. Overall, this guitar looks great and sounds great. Every time I get to play it, I am amazed by such good sound. Some complaits though, are the necks size. It is very fat, and sometimes it is very hard to just play chords. Also, some of the frets are messed up, when you try to play on the 12th fret, you have to wait a second and look, because it doesn't name the two dots on the side of the neck, it just has one. Besides that, if you have big hands the fat neck wouldn't be a problem, and this is a great guitar but will take some getting use to.

THE BEST...

By Yngwie Malmsteen1

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is the best 12 string guitar that I have ever laid eyes on, the finish is amazing, the spruce top creates a beautiful tone and to top it all off, it has a great eq, the tuner on it is a little strange to use at first but i got used to it quickly. The only bad feature i think this guitar has is that the action is super high, but that is not enough to stop it from a perfect record.

Love the Sound

By guitarlover77

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for about a year and love it. I tried several other 12 strings and nothing could match the sound for the price. The action was a little high when I purchased the guatar, but once a guitar tech set it up it was perfect.

Great Stage Guitar

By Gregg Case

from Orlando, FL

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own a Tak FD series which I've played on stage for years and a Taylor 614 CE. Both are great guitars but when I went for the twelve string, the Tak sounded better acoustically and amplified. The SG523SC-12 actually played just as well as the Taylor after I adjusted the neck and you can't beat the price for what you get!

Sound of the Stars

By Al

from Colchester, CT

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After playing a Takamine LTD 99 and falling in love with it more and more, I thought it was time to pick up a 12 string to add to my collection of guitars. The Takamine 12 string plays great amped up or just un-pluged. It has a rich tone that surpasses guitars in price of 2 and 3 thousand dollars. I would reccomend this guitar to advance players as well as beginners. You can not beat the craftmen-ship for the money.

Nuthin' But Great!

By Travis McCauley

from Medicine Lodge, KS

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Purchased this guitar about 4 months ago. Have a Guild 12 and an Ibanez PF12, had 2 Alvarezes. But this,...this guitar puts them all to shame. I believe it sounds equal to a Taylor or Martin at half the price. The electronics work great and I absolutely will NEVER have another guitar without an onboard tuner. I have had NOTHING but praise from averyone who sees it, let alone plays it!! Blown away, one and all. I recommend this guitar to anyone! Everyone! Sounds full and rich. Looks GREAT! Very road worthy. What more could you ask! Oh, yeah, and it STAYS in tune almost perfectly!!! BUY IT!!

My favorite 12-string

By Ray

from New Orleans, LA

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted a 12-string for live gigs and had to limit my options due to price. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked this one up. After playing a single chord, I was sold. This Takamine is right up there with the more expensive brands. It has deep, warm lows and crystal-clear highs which can be adjusted to your individual taste with the on-board EQ. The on-board tuner is also a BIG plus, especially when you are on stage. It may be a little bulky, but I'm kind of a big guy, so it's just the perfect size and weight for me. I have had this guitar for 5 years now and it has proved itself time and time again. Not only does it look nice and sound awesome, it is rugged and has survived the perils of the road. It has a couple of nicks and scratches (my fault), but the finish is still just as good now as the day I bought it. HIGHLY recommended!

Great for performances

By MickeyD

from Laguna Niguel, CA

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played various guitars, but this Tak is the absolute best and is equal to Martins, Taylors, Gibsons, Fenders and others. The sound is robust and full. The electronics are amazing. Action is low and easy on fingering bar chords. I now use it exclusively for my performances. Well worth more than what it costs. An absolutely great 12-string guitar. I highly recommend it.

Only 12 string I'll ever need!

By WILLIAM MOORE

from Houston, Tx.

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Have had this guitar since 2007 and still in love with it. Huge/Full 12 string sound, plugged in or not. I use it with the Marshall AS100D and AS50D amps to do weekly acoustic jam hosting. It's everything in a 12 string acoustic I could ever want. The TK-40 electronics are great and easy to use. The spruce top and maple back and sides produce the most eloquent tones of any 12 I have ever played. You don't need to spend thousands to get a quality 12, and this guitar is proof. Buy it, then get it setup to your taste by a competent tech, and enjoy it for years.

Easy to Play, High Quality

By Tony Coffman

from Newberg, OR

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Features: This Takamine guitar for the price has a lot of quality features, a solid spruce top and flame maple sides, pre-amp with a ton of features, and nice abalone inlays. ?I was surprised at how accurate the on-board tuner is. ?For the price of this guitar this has a lot of very nice features. Quality: The quality of this guitar seems to be higher end, especially for the price. ?I have the black model and the finish is clean and beautiful. ?I wasn't sure if I would like the black due to it's propensity to show fingerprints, yet even with that it is very well done. ?The trim around the outside of the guitar adds a subtle beauty. ?My only complaint with the quality of the guitar is cosmetic and I'm the only one it bothers so far that I have talked to. ?The inlays around the sound hole are abalone surrounded by a white ring, and that outside ring is half-covered by the pick guard. ?Poor attention to detail in my opinion, but a small gripe. Value: From my comparisons the value of this guitar is very high. ?Lots of features for the dollars. Overall: I am an intermediate player, a hobbyist. ?When I decided to get a 12 string guitar, I tried Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, Seagull, Fender, and this Takamine. ?For me, by far, the Taylor and the Takamine was the easiest to play, and though the Taylor projected a little better, the ease of play and the price led this Takamine to be a no brainer. ?I have been very happy with this decision. I have had this guitar for about a month now. ?The Takamine stays in tune very well, plays easy, and sounds great, especially plugged in to my amp. ?The electronics seem to be high quality. ?I am really happy with this purchase, and the guitar is beautiful.

Great Guitar - Totally Worth It

By Sean Cooper

from Hoffman Estates, IL

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered this on the advice of a salesperson. I figured I could refuse delivery if I didn't like it. I LOVE IT! The jumbo body gives this guitar a bass response unlike any of the other 12-strings I shopped but this thing isn't so big as to be awkward (I'm 6'1). The bass gives a richness to the sound that others just don't have. And the finish... I have a Takamine G-series 6-string as well. I was happy with the finish on that one. This one kills it. There's a great luster to the body. And let's not forget playability. I think this might be easier to play than my 6-string. The fretboard is wider than a normal guitar but not by too much. I've let friends with smaller hands play it and they can still manage just fine. The electronics are as good as advertised. Plugging it into an AMP is a lot of fun. I'm just waiting for my neighbors to complain. This is the best 12-string I've found under $1000 and one of the best I've played, period.

the best 12 string acoustic guitar......PERIOD

By JEFF PECORARO

from Poplar Grove , Il

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I tried many other acoustic 12 string guitars but this one has all the good points of the others and many more of it's own!The workmanship (at least on mine) is flawless and the neck and action hare perfect from day one. The neck is the perfect width to do all sorts of finger picking, bluegrass or any style of noting you might want to do! The wood is gorgeous(especially back and sides, electronics are spot on as well as the onboard tuner, but the tone is THE BEST out of all including the high dollar(read overpriced) Taylor, Guild or Martin! This is one jewel of a guitar!

Fantastic Guitar for the Price

By DAVID LAMONT

from West Palm Beach

Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Played my EG523SC-12 this past Sunday with our worship band, what an awesome fat sound! I play acoustic rhythm guitar with our worship band, and almost every Sunday our co-worship leader, who normally plays bass, has been also playing guitar. I wanted an instrument that would voice a little differently without having to fiddle with capos, and this Tak fits the bill well. I play it into my Fishman Loudbox Artist with effects off, and use an SM-58 mic to get it into the church's mixer board. The flexibility is awesome with this instrument. I can play a full fat chord, it has enough bottom end to accentuate the bass and lightly strum the highs, (bluegrass style bass/strum), or i can play fills by just ringing the highs like a mandolin. It can easily overpower any other acoustic guitar, so attention to dynamics is critical. In fact, i would say this guitar gives a player many dynamic options not possible with a 6 string. It isn't as tinny sounding as many 12 strings, it retains that warm acoustic tone. The jumbo body really gives this axe it's voice, and the finish is absolutely gorgeous. It truly is a work of art. Also, for a new guitar, it seems to hold it's tune well. I often go from car to air conditioning, and some strings may be a 1/2 step off, others are spot on. Also, the low action makes it feel more like an electric, and barre chords are a breeze. Quality of sound is everything, you will not be disappointed by investing in this axe.
