The Takamine EF340SCGN Antique Acoustic-Electric Guitar brings the build quality and performance capability of Takamine professional series guitars to a whole new level of affordability. Built on the popular cutaway dreadnought platform, this guitar starts with a solid cedar top for great warm vintage tone right out of the box.

The EF340SCGN guitar's back and sides are mahogany with multi-ply bindings on the edges to protect it from the bumps and bruises that a guitar will get from day-to-day use, especially when you are out on stage. The neck is mahogany, with a rosewood fretboard, which holds 20 highly polished nickel-silver frets. The neck is supported by a dual-action tension rod, which can be used to keep your neck in perfect relief no matter what environmental forces try to act on your Takamine guitar. The tuning machines are chrome and of the finest quality for precision tuning. At the heart of every Takamine professional series guitar is a state-of-the-art electronics system, which starts with a palathetic pickup built into the bridge, and ends with the Takamine preamp system.

The CT-4B analog solid-state preamp features three bands of EQ, and a volume control. Tone shaping is done very easily with a user-friendly graphic EQ, with bass, midrange and treble slide controls. The volume is also on a slider. Another great feature on this preamp is the built-in chromatic tuner. The tuner on button also acts as a mute control for silent onstage tuning. It is also incredibly useful for non-standard and open tunings. The EF340SCGN dreadnought cutaway guitar comes out of the box looking and feeling like a well-worn old friend. The antique stain and the light satin finish give it that pure vintage feel and vibe.

As Good As It Gets

By Penelope White

from Avon, OH

I purchased this beauty from my local GC about a week ago. I was hunting for a quality acoustic electric that could produce warm, rich notes and was also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I had a budget of between five and six hundred dollars. Then I wandered into the "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" room. I saw this Takamine at a special price, picked it up, played it, and, well, that's all she wrote. It was love at first sight and first sound. I love everything about this guitar: the full, resonant sound, the gorgeous satin finish, the quality hard case, the onboard preamp and tuner. Seriously, what's not to like? For the first few days I played it acoustically and was extremely pleased - I couldn't put it down. Today I plugged her in to my Fender Mustang III amp and was just blown away. I have five other guitars ranging from a Squier strat to a Rickenbacker 360 signed by Tom Petty, but this baby has first place in my heart and in my hands. If you have a chance to purchase this amazing instrument, do NOT hesitate. Believe me you won't be sorry!

Love it

By Bill

from Des Moines, IA

Call me nuts..... but I love the sounds that come from this guitar. I own 3 Guitars, a USA made Larivee, a Martin LXM travel guitar, and now this one. The high end sounds very similar to the Larivee, E, B strings, the G & D have a punch to it which in someways remind me of a Gibson, & the A & E are so smooth (unique and original) but also reminds me of a Gibson. The size of the box is big and delivers lots of volume. I do not have an amp and have not plugged it in. My only criticism which isn't a deal breaker, is its much heavier than my Larivee which cost lots more $$$. This one has been setup right and very easy to play - seams like I never miss a note. Guitars are like cars, some folks want a truck, some a luxury car, and others a sport car. So what I like may not be the top of your list, but definitely worth checking out!

Best acoustic I've owned

By Jack

from Los Angeles, CA

This guitar is simply phenomenal. It sounds great, looks sexy, is very durable, and holds its tune very well. I normally don't review the products I purchased, but felt I had to because of how satisfied I am with this purchase. It's better than my friend's Taylor guitar which was significantly more expensive.

problems with preamp

By John

from Wellsville, N.Y.

Bought this guitar about a year and a half ago. Fell in love with it. BUT THE PREAMP/TUNER STOPPED WORKING A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. Changed battery but still doesn't work. I picked it up at the Guitar Center store in Rochester, N.Y. a TWO HOUR DRIVE FOR ME. I will be taking it in so I will update this review when I do.

Awesome guitar

By Kenny

from Metairie, LA

I originally had purchased an Epiphone Masterbilt but brought it back because the action was horrible. Traded up for this. It is excellent! Beautiful tone and looks. I love everything about this guitar. I wake up and go right to it before work and then same before bed. Please give this one a try and you will love it.

Another wonderful Tak Product

By Larry

from Sugar Land, Texas

This is my second Tak guitar, the other is a 523 series. While no mean inexpensive this guitar is priced way below what some of the other companies would charge. The sound is very different from the typical maple sides and spruce sound board guitars. It is more mellow and has deep richer tones that really come alive through my Marshall 100SD. The cedar board really makes a huge difference. The fret board is very forgiving and very playable. The electronics are top notch and work as advertised giving you many options if you want to shape your sound. Great care must be given due to the nature of the cedar. It will dent more easily than spruce but the sound is well worth the extra care. The guitar is also very stage worthy. The pics on the web-site do not do it justice. If your looking for something different, give it a try. Again another great product from Takamine and at a bargain price. I could not be happier.

Great Sound...Great Looks

By Gary

from New Jersey

I bought this Takamine at my local Guitar Center a few days ago and it's made me incredibly happy. It sounds fantastic, and feels comfortable in my hands. The cedar top is gorgeous, looks even better in person than how it looks on-line. I'm not a fan of the pre-amp jack imbedded right into the strap button, but the guitar is solid piece of work. Look forward to keeping it for many years.

Takamine EF340scgn

By Gregory Ray

from Fresno ca

This is a great guitar it is solid cedar top and solid Mahogany back and sides. This guitar sounds awesome and plays like butter. the preamp ct-4b is the same used on other takamines pro sieres. I own several acoustic and would have to say this one and my takamine cooltube stand in a class all there own. Anyone that wants great tone with solid wood for a price you can't beat this is the guitar to get. This is no cheap guitar by no means stands up to my cooltube on every note. if you are thinking about geting this guitar get it I recomend it to everyone who likes Takamine. Once again Takamine out did themselfs with this guitar and the price is a steel for this well constructed guitar. I rate it 5 stars accross the board.

fantastic guitar for the money

By peggy

from columbus,ohio

I recieved this guitar as a gift. I love the tone it sounds great. I was considering a martin, but friends suggested a Takamine. Everyone said you get the most for your money with Takamine and they were right. It is a beautiful guitar and it even came with a very nice hardshell case. A friend played it last weekend in a gospel band and it sounded great when hooked up to the sound system. Everyone in the band loved it. Buy this guitar you will love it.
