About Takamine:

Nestled at the base of Takamine Mountain in Sakashita, Japan, Takamine Guitars has over 50 years of history dedicated to the innovation and improvement of the art and craft of guitar making.

What first began as a small family business evolved into one of the leading guitar manufacturers in the world, depended upon by some of the best players and biggest names in the music industry. Takamine has made technological advancements that have surpassed other guitar makers, and the company prides itself on its dedication and loyalty to fine luthiership—shown through each instrument that Takamine makes.

Takamine had its beginnings while guitar playing and music were gaining popularity in Japan during the early 1960s. As their business grew, they saw the need to develop their skills and attract design and manufacturing talent. One of the most important additions to the company was Mr. Mass Hirade, who joined Takamine in 1968 and made great improvements upon design and build quality. The factory began producing their world-class Classical model that to this day still carries the Hirade name.

Through Hirade's dedication and commitment to Takamine, he was able to begin an overseas trading business in 1975, and Takamine Guitars was able to reach out to guitar players around the world. Takamine was finally placed in the hands of musicians who had previously only heard about their great sound and fine craftsmanship.

A notable advancement in the Takamine history was their Palathetic pickup, which set the standard for the industry when it was introduced. Other acoustic guitar manufacturers soon offered acoustic/electric models, but none has reached the level of sophistication and performance set by Takamine. The Palathetic pickup is an integral part of the guitar's design, not retrofitted like most other factory systems. Six individual piezo transducers are embedded in the bridge plate where they sense both string and soundboard vibration. Takamine also pioneered the slider-style preamp control for the acoustic/electric guitar.
