    have been playing a Cort fretless acoustic in a group for some years when I became aware of the Takamine TB10 - there wasn't one in NZ to try out so I imported one from the USA sight unseen. I liked the look of it and thought I could sling it round my neck like the Cort - not so - it?s quite heavy and is really built for playing upright. It was a bit of a steep learning curve as I'm not an upright player but once I got used to it, it absolutely shines. I changed the strings to LaBella flatwounds and the sustain is incredible - almost too much for some situations. It has a very similar sound to an upright string bass but is much easier to play - I haven't tried but I think, with its slightly rounded fingerboard, it could be bowed. The quality of the instrument is beautiful and it has generated more interest on gigs than anything else I've ever played. It has to be used with an amp as it is not very loud acoustically (practice only). I cannot speak highly enough of this instrument and have no hesitation in recommending it to any bass player. It?s very satisfying to play
