  I recently bought this model. I was hesitant at first, because I have always played American made guitars. However, this particular instrument has the same playability (to me,) that my Gibson acoustics have. I had to get used to the tone, as it wasn't as ringing as my Gibson Hummingbird. I love the on-board tuner it really helps me out bunches when I'm on concert. The balance when strapped on is amazing and it won't break your back when playing it for an extended period of time. Overall, I would definitely say that this is one ax that I'll be hanging on to for quite some time. Great guitar, Takamine!

• Wonderful tone...

  I have this guitar in the natural finish. I bought the guitar for all the things Takamines are known for -- precise build quality, great action, and solid electronics. I got all that, but I also found a guitar that just sounds beautiful and quite balanced (esp. considering its a dread). I was pleasantly surprised. I have another Takamine in the NEX shape and while it plays identical, the dread definitely has the edge when it comes to the tone.

• Build quality, sound, playability of a hand-made

  Guitar Center ordered the Satin finish model into the store for me, so I could try it out. This was the Robinson store just outside Pittsburgh. The guitar must have come directly from the factory, not from another store, because when the salesperson opened up the box, the smell of fresh cedar wood was strong. He even noted it. The guitar still retains some of that wonderful aroma six months later. I was very impressed by the case it comes with. It's not a Carlton, but it's very high quality. I took the guitar into the acoustic room, where I played it and compared it to the high-end acoustics on hand (Martins, Gibsons, Breedloves, etc.). There were a few of these $3-5000 guitars that sounded and played better, but not many. The Tak was amazing from the very start. The satin finish is a wonder, for one thing. It just feels so good, and the lack of a shiny lacquer finish just adds to the hand-made feel. The build quality is just outstanding. This line of guitars is made in the higher-end shop in Japan, and it shows. The variability of sound this thing is capable of is something I've never experienced in my 35 years of playing. It's hard to describe, but you can get several kinds of "voices" from the guitar just by varying your attack. It's equally suited to fingerstyle or flatpicking. The action is just perfect out of the box. The guitar stays in tune incredibly well, between sessions. And the onboard tuner is great. I once owned a handmade Collings OM2H, bought brand-new for $3600 in 2002. Had to sell it to pay the rent (old story). That guitar had a golden tone, like a harp, and the sustain went on forever. But it was not nearly as playable as this Tak. I found it online for just under $900 (the Tak), and GC matched that price, which blew my mind. I feel I've gotten much more than my money's worth, and now own a guitar that I will enjoy for many, many years to come. Thank you, Guitar Center!
