Overview

TC Helicon's VoiceTone Correct XT provides you with smooth, pro vocal tones and the security of active anti-feedback. Matched with TC-Helicon's natural auto-chromatic pitch correction, it's like having a live sound engineer and a vocal coach at every gig.

Adaptive Tone
VoiceTone Correct XT features TC-Helicon's adaptive tone technology which intelligently controls Shape EQ and Dynamics (Compression & De-ess) to provide the perfect tonal balance that fits in the mix. Best of all, it's easy-just set and forget. The adaptive gate can also be added to help suppress feedback and clean up noise.

Intelligent Anti-Feedback
Feedback is a reality for the contemporary vocalist. Unlike other anti-feedback technology, VoiceTone Correct XT doesn't require any pre-calibration in a quiet room before your gig-who has time for that anyway? Once again it's set and forget-protecting everyone's ears.

Auto-Chromatic Pitch Correction
The auto-chromatic pitch correction helps you sing more in tune, much like a metronome helps for playing in time. It's like singing with a singer who has perfect pitch. This lets you know when you're out of tune and you naturally decide to correct yourself, or not.

I/O
The VoiceTone Correct XT has balanced XLR output for sending a clean, quiet signal to your mixer. The mic input gives you a studio quality mic preamp with phantom power while the instrument input XLR output can used as a conventional balanced DI connection. There is also a USB output to connect you to Voice-Support which offers tips, tricks, and updates.

I'm a sound man and deal with these from that perspective rather than from the vocalist's perspective. That doesn't mean you should ignore this. I'm trying to give you information of what will happen when you show up and insert one of these into someone else's sound rig. They often won't be aware of how your particular unit works so you have to be the expert. These things -CAN- be useful, but 70% of the time, people destroy their vocal tone with these instead of making it better. If you buy one, work with a soundman to understand what it does, and use the processing wisely. What it does in practice will not necessarily be good on a loud stage, especially if feedback is an issue. At least it's well built and is not a tone suck
Gate: Okay
Doesn't clamp when you don't want it to, but it doesn't help much when it is onIn it's defense, gating for vocals is usually a bad idea

Warmth: Not bad
It changes tone a bit, usually with good results

Adaptive EQ - awful - If you make an EQ cut on the mixer, the adaptive EQ tries to undo it. Basically, when you enable this feature, you destroy any ability to make positive changes in the sound at the mixing board. If your board suck, this might be okay, but the tone is usually quite harsh when run through a large PA system

Adaptive dynamics
This is a compressor and if you are in a high volume setting, it will bight you in the arse.
On a loud stage, it will cause feedback when you are not singing.

Feedback preventer:
The feedback killer works pretty well if you read td the manual and learn how to use it.
Pitch correction:Seems to work okay. The people singing through it like it. It doesn't make them sound too much like a lifeless robot. Stepping from note to note is obvious if you slide from one note to the next. It's not a replacement for talent, but used with a singer that is okay, it can clean up the occasional bad notesBasically the Correct Xt is a knife that cuts both ways. You can cause way more damage than you can imagine, or if used conservatively, can do a decent job of pitch correction. It is not a replacement for a soundman.
Decent sound quality
Build quality is good
A decent value for what it is

I'd pay more for one without adaptive EQ and without adaptive dynamics.

I am 100% serious on the paying more to get rid of those "features"

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

It doesn't matter how great a singer you are or think you are, this is a must have. Feedback eliminator, multi band compressor, auto EQ, and an amazing pitch correction that sounds natural. This will be the difference of sounding like a good singer or sounding like a pro singer. And the pro's use it too.

Good device with 1 huge flaw

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

The reason I took the time to setup an account and post this review is because I felt others needed to know about a serious flaw. If you push too much volume through these things, instead of simply distorting, it kicks into a loud static blanket that is akin to every frequency feeding back at the same time. If you play loud music like rock, this flaw renders the device useless for performances.

How loud can you get? My lead singer is female and this happens every time we do Amy Lee's "Bring Me to Life".

So why did I check "I would recommend this to a friend"?. Because this flaw is tied to loud music. If you are in a group that plays soft-music, you may not experience it.

The Feedback protection actually works very well. But in real life, there are many mics on stage. Protecting 1 of them isn't a solution. You are better off spending more on your mics and getting higher-end models that don't feedback in the first place.

The auto-tune is good when you need a robot voice, but is actually pretty useless otherwise. We have a rhythm guitar player who sings backup vocals. Sometimes he sings off key and doesn't realize it. In his case, Chromatic just pulls him to the wrong note. If you are trying to correct a backup singer who doesn't sing that well, you will want non-chromatic auto-tune. A device that knows the key can do more correction.

The other features... Out of the box, I liked how it made our singer sound. Too bad we couldn't leave it turned on. No matter how much we disabled, as long as it was in the line, we would get the blanket static on loud notes.

voice polish

By robert greaves

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

Each parameter on this unit does exactly what it claims in a smooth and desireable way. I bought one to experiment with. I am so happy with the results I will be buying one for each vocal microphone in the band. If you use the pitch correction feature it is important that your instruments be in tune and in proper intonation.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

Bought this on a whim when I purchased a new Blue microphone and figured why not try it out. I play bass and run sound from stage at most shows and always struggle balancing the performance with the responsibility of making us sound good. Basically I was looking for way to get singer to stand out in mix and loud in the monitors without fighting feedback all night.

Packaging was good, fold out instruction ridiculous to get to English.

So I plugged it in and set all the knobs to 12:00 and tested it out. Seemed to take about 10 seconds of singing and then it became apparent this does what it advertises. My voice became clear and thick and lost a nasally tone that I have. Did not like the pitch correction at 12 o' clock but found I did help enough without sounding to strange at the 9 o'clock position.

Next up I tested out the anti-feedback, and that is where this unit shines, turned up the monitors until it started feeding back and then turned them down. The filter had notched 3 different frequencies, and my voice did not sound like it changed much. I could still hear a couple frequencies that were on the verge of feedback but not quite, so I repeated the process until the unit notched out 5 frequencies. Once I turned it back down, the vocals were loud and crisp and no hints of feedback at all. Having this unit live will be a godsend and a huge time saver. Setup, crank up monitors until it notches to 5...done and vocals sound great.

Looking forward to trying live, but if it can make vocals sound good in a 20x24 room with concrete floors, it will work anywhere.

Nice all in one pedal

By Daniel Gaylin

from DC area

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

Very nice -- it adds a bit of digititis to the sound -- just a touch. But for everything you get (compression, dessing, warmth, pitch correct, anti-feedback), its worth it. Using somewhat conservative settings is best. But for people who want a simple set up its great. And the anti-feedback is nothing short of amazing.

Excellent Pedal

By Brian Charbonneau

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

Love it. TC Helicon makes great stuff and I will allways get their product!!
I bought this from Muscian's Friend, and am very happy with it. It works great for when I get less experinced singers using my wireless with this hooked up, it helps me in feedback and helps in the pitch correction to an allready off key singer. I won't leave home without it!!
Great quality and realiable.
Would be crushed if I did not have it on the job.

Does everything it says and then some.

By G. Berdin

from Pasadena, CA

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

Worth the money. I was hesitant at first knowing sound guys and vocal fx, but after we tried two of them at a show the sound guy loved them. He says he gets a great signal from them. A friend said our lyrics were as clear as day and very present. We watched the next band through the same p.a. and mics WITHOUT the helicons and it was very muddy. The pitch correct is great as an effect or just for confidence. I'm a drummer so the foot switch is awesome.

Great Product for a cheaper Microphone

By Don S

from Independence, KY

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT:

I picked up one of these units mainly for the auto Shape and Dynamics portion of this unit. We put it on our Drummer's headset mic first. He has a good Mic, but it's still substantially lower quality than a beta 58. This unit woke his mic up and truly brought it up to the performance level we were looking for. I then tried it on our other vocal mics. The difference was subtle, but still added to the quality nicely. Nicely enough that I purchased three more for the other mics. I placed them into a drawer in our stage rack. When powered up, they are active and work as intended. Please note that we also have an ACP compressor and a GL2400 Board, so our equipment is also top notch. These units will not fix an otherwise poor quality PA rig, it will only enhance what you already have. The Pitch correction portion is descent, but we only use them at 25% on the pitch knob. Hope this helps..
