Overview

The TC Electronic RH450 Bass Amp Head is the company's first full bass rig. With 450W of Class-D power, the RH450 bass amp has the power to run multiple bass speaker cabinets and is especially effective when combined with the RS210 and RS212,

The TC Electronic RH450 amp can run any combination of up to 3 units. This bass amp head's features include an input that accepts passive or active instruments, 4 semi-parametric tone controls with light rings around each knob that make your settings visible even on dark stages, and with tone centers that can be adjusted. Other features include an integrated tuner that is precise and extremely easy to use. 3 user-memory locations let you store your favorite setups. A TubeTone circuit affects both the preamp and the output for realistic tube-amp character. SpectraComp technology provides multi-band compression that is even across all strings. I/O is comprehensive and includes an AES/EBU connection. Presets, Mute, and Tuner can be selected remotely with the RC4 floor controller sold separately.

Flexible tone control

The RH450 bass amp head has straightforward controls like you know them from traditional amps, voiced to give you plenty of tweaking options to nail the perfect tone. Chances are these are all you're going to need. However, if you're not fully satisfied with the default frequency areas, fear not-RH450 gives you the option to change the focus of each of the tone controls.

The nerdy term for this feature is semi-parametric bands, and it tweaks the "hidden parameters" to pinpoint a frequency you either want to remove or boost for each tone control and then store the settings.

TubeTone

Most transistor designs have tried to replicate tube sound using 1 small preamp tube, but they generally fail as they don't take into account the crucial characteristics of the full preamp and power amp sections-both of which are essential to the sound. TubeTone emulates all characteristics to deliver the full tube sound.

SpectraComp

A regular compressor tends to be dominated by the low string, but the RH450's SpectraComp technology produces multi-band compression that evens out the compression across all strings.

Onboard user memory banks

You might not use presets, but maybe you've never had the chance. Anyone who's used different basses on stage knows that a few user memories on your amp would be welcome. With the RH450 you can easily switch between, for example, your 4- and 5-string. Just plug in the bass and use the car-radio-style Store and Recall controls to easily switch between presets for your chosen model. There are 3 bass user memories, remote control access via the RC4 Control (sold separately), and visual indicators for Mute and the Tuner.

Rehearsal inputs

Playing any instrument on its own can be a little dull, but everyone needs time to practice, which is why RH450 has rehearsal inputs. This rear panel-mounted feature allows you to plug in your iPod, phone, computer or MP3 player via the supplied mini-jack to RCA cable adapter for easy practicing and playing along with recorded music. The headphone amp is a high quality model taken straight from TC Electronic's Studio Konnekt 48 and includes a speaker filter on the bass signal.

The RH450 from TC Electronic is built for bass players by bass players and draws upon decades of cutting-edge amp design and signal processing experience. The result is the RH450-the bass innovation that sets a new standard in excellence in bass amplification.

The best bass amp I have ever owned.

By Tony Cataldo

from Reno, NV

After 5 years of solid performance, I have to say that my RH450 is the best bass amp I have ever owned. The sound, features, portability, reliability, and (yes) POWER, are worthy of the rare 5-star review.

Great amp super features

By Ismael Santos

from Tucson, AZ

OK I am sorry TC has a full disclosure multiple page technical description of their power rating... Use your ears! This thing is as loud as any 500 Watt amp I have heard. I am rating the product and I find the presets, spectra comp, tube tone, and other features to be very good. Most importantly it sounds good. A winner in my book.

It is loud, it does pack a few good features, but..........

By Jason

from Washington, DC

But in reality, if you believe that you're getting a 450watt amp, think again. According to the TC Electronic VP of Business Management, Uffe Kjems Hansen.......the advertised "450 watts" is actually what he referred to as "Quasi-watts". Bass gear magazine did a review of the RH450, the actual power of this amp is 239 watts RMS, nowhere near the 450 watts (800 peak), that was advertised. It has been explained and discussed on "talkbass.com", that the technology is implemented in the power section (Power management), is where this perceived loudness is achieved with only 239 watts RMS. Ufee went on to explain that this amps sales would probably not have been as good if it was advertised as a "239 watt amp", although because of the technology used it does compare in volume to a 450 watt, 500 watt, 600 watt amp. There is definitely some untruth with this head that must be stated, so that a potential buyer does not assume that they are buying a 450 watt amplifier. After typing this, I will say, I own an RH450 and use it with a GK212MBE and it is plenty loud, love the features, but just hate the fact that the specs as far as power are flat out false. Therefore I give it a 3 just for the fact that TC has been untruthful, by stating that it is a 450 watt amp.

Will never buy from TC again

By Disgruntled TC Owner

from Fantasy Land, Like the amp's specs

236 watts? really? Quasi-Watts? Total BS. Why TC feels they must stoop to subterfuge in order to sell a bass amp, I'll never get it. However the tuner DOES work as advertised.

TC needs a lesson in Honesty

By Tom

from Huntsville, AL

I have owned and gigged this head for almost two years. The good: It sounds great, has tons of features, and is light and sturdy. My problem is with TC Electronics. This is really a sub 250 watt amp into 4 ohms and 130 something into 8 ohms. This was documented by a bench test from Bass Gear Magazine. TC is balatantly and knownigly lying about the power rating. They compensate by using sophisticated compression/limiting along with rolling off the low end of the signal. This does result in a "tubey" sound that fits my personal style, but if you are the kind of bassist that requires gobs of tight percussive low end this amp won't deliver. The low end is always somewhat compressed. I personally like the sound and have found the volume adequate for my needs, but I feel betrayed by TC's dishonesty. And yes the owner's manual states the amp has 450 watts (multiple times). Buyer beware! I will be keeping the head, but will never deal with TC again.

Game changer

By Kjems

from Copenhagen

This amp seriously changes the way I look at bass amps. Not only does it have killer tone and tons of power in small box, but the fact that includes both tuner, presets and the surprisingly natural sounding TubeTone just blew my mind. I recommend this to anybody who is serious about their bass playing
