Overview

Tuning used to be a necessary evil. The last barrier before you could get truly rocking. But now, tuning is ready to get blasted into the 21st century with PolyTune™, the stomp-box-sized tuning miracle from TC Electronic. The magic lies in an approach to tuning aimed at speed, accuracy and ease of use. With PolyTune, you simply strum all strings on your guitar or bass at once, and it will immediately tell you which strings need tuning. It really is as simple as strum, tune, and rock. This leap forward in tuners allows you to get in tune fast, and back to doing what you love—playing.

Strum, tune, and rock
Providing an instant overview of the pitch of all your strings, PolyTune is an invaluable tool in live settings, where it is essential to be in tune quickly and ready to play. Crowds don't want to wait around, they want to rock, and, let's face it, so do you. Besides live use, this stomp box will deliver like no other in any situation where you want to get tuning out of the way and focus on play.

Fever pitch
Equally effective for guitar and bass, PolyTune is extremely flexible as well. The reference pitch can be set to your preference and ranges from 435Hz to 445Hz. This guarantees you'll be able to play along with anyone, with any instrument and in any situation.

Drop it like it's hot
If you are a guitarist that likes to play at a different pitch than standard, this is your go-to pedal, allowing for dropped tunings from E-flat all the way down to B.

Chromatic champion
Besides the Polyphonic tuner, PolyTune has a chromatic tuner that can hang with the best current tuning technology out there, with an amazing 0.5-cent accuracy.

Tuning modes
The two separate chromatic tuning modes cater to your individual preferences and needs. Needle mode is for those that are used to the classic view on a tuner. Stream-mode is for musicians that want a little more real-time information. The Stream mode measures even the slightest pitch variation and instantly feeds the info back via a rotating motion on the display.

Tuning magnet
Key to both these great chromatic modes is an ultra-fast and precise response, which is achieved via the use of the unique tuner magnet feature. This slows down the needle once you get close to the desired pitch, making it much easier to get the job done quickly.

MonoPoly
Whether you want to use the polyphonic tuner to get in tune, or prefer to go the chromatic route, this pedal has you covered. PolyTune features "MonoPoly", a unique patent-pending technology that recognizes whether you play one or more strings and instantly replies with the appropriate poly- or monophonic tuning mode.

Total recall
Of course, all of these amazing features would not mean a thing if they were a pain to use or set up. So, TC Electronic added some traits to ensure this tuner is calibrated to the guitarist. Unlike most other tuners, PolyTune stores your preferences. From pitch reference to tuning mode, it hangs on to this information even after it is powered down, making sure you only have to set how you want things to happen once. The next time you power up again, it will show you the settings, so you instantly know everything is exactly how you want it to be.

Tuning as it should be
PolyTune provided a chance to build the ultimate tuning tool from the ground up and finally get rid of some of the current tuner drawbacks that guitarists run into time and time again

A strong display of innovation
Guitarists that play gigs recognize the nightmare of an unclear display, due to for example bright sunlight, an overeager light technician or a stage smoke machine gone bonkers. PolyTune offers unprecedented visibility using an ambient light sensor, which automatically matches the brightness of the LEDs to its surroundings. PolyTune features 17 LEDS which allow for a higher resolution. The LEDs themselves are bright and focused to ensure optimal visibility at all times. And as an added bonus, the 100 LED matrix can give you information right on the display, so you won't have to go dig for the manual mid-gig.

Size matters
PolyTune will brighten any pedalboard, Its small footprint design means that PolyTune doesn't take up more of your precious pedalboard real estate than absolutely necessary.

Spruce the juice
Battery changes are a breeze thanks to the one-screw, easy access battery compartment. In addition, when powered by an external 9V DC power supply, the 9V DC out can be used to power other pedals on your board.

True bypass
The true bypass feature ensures PolyTune is only there when you need it. It allows for your carefully sculpted tone to flow unaffected when the pedal is bypassed and for silent tuning once engaged.

the polytune pedal is a great tuning pedal performancewise, but its features can make it a a little difficult to use if pressed for time. the pedal will sometimes (rarely) think that a single note is a chord and go into "chord mode" and it takes about half a second for the pedal to switch between modes(polychromatic and chromatic) so if you are trying to simply fix one string thats out of tune then it can get annoying. and if you have any bandmates that need to borrow a tuner, you have to explain to them why it sometimes switches modes. I just wish there was a switch to allow you to choose automatic "mode switching" or manual "mode switching". Also, this pedal does not suck tone, trust me i am planning on majoring in electrical engineering and im a tone snob so i would notice it if it did suck any of my tone.

Needed another tuner (have a Boss TU-2). The polytune feature and true bypass sold me on this one. It's a great idea but unfortunately, not fully realized yet. I do like the display and quick tuning response...but it has problems and is very quirky. Exchanged the first one I got, thinking maybe it was a lemon and hoping the problems were limited to just that one unit. Same thing again with the second tuner. I used the neck pickup (best with any tuner) and my finger (following their suggestions for best results) and a pick. I tried it with four different guitars and pickup configs (both single coils and hums). Sometimes it just won't track a string (tuning individually) and the poly display will be missing the blip that corresponds to that string - taking WAY too much time to finally get a read. Also, the polytune display and single string tuning don't always agree. I'll tune a single string...then, the poly display shows it to be flat! If I make that string a bit sharp in single string mode, the poly display then shows it to be in tune! No agreement on pitch - which one is correct: the poly display or the single string tuning mode?? I've given tuner this a VERY fair chance and a generous 2-stars. Tried two different units, at rehearsals and shows, using four different guitars. The problems are consistent and frequent. Instead of 'speeding up' the tuning process, it took WAY longer, with lots of frustration! Tuning shouldn't be difficult. Very disappointed... Will try a Korg Pitchblack or maybe just get a TU-3. The PolyTune pedal is definitely not ready for primetime!

Best Ever No Doubt

By James Brady

from New Orleans,LA

This is without a shadow of a doubt the best tuner ever made in the history of mankind. The comments suggesting, "Out of tune" are a bit ridiculous. Maybe the people who think this should take their guitars to a tech and have the intonation set. Anyway, back to the tuner. It is what I have always wished I would have thought of. The tuner is next generation. Absolutely perfect. Very simple to use. Alternate tunings are spot on. No doubt people, this is the only tuner worth having. All the others out there may as well fold their hands. Short of a thousand dollar strobe tuner, MAYBE, there is no equal.

Money well Spent

By Isaac Diaz

This tuner was a great purchase. I never liked tuning my guitar due to the hassle of tuning each string, but when it is already setup to my Les Paul, tuning takes seconds.

Works Great!

By Robert Rosales

It works perfect....as a tuner. I like the "in & out" power feature, saves up a spot on the power source. I preffer the one string at a time method, the display is bright and easy to read. Strong and sturdy construction.

Not perfect, but a great tuner..

By Justin Lowrie

from Huntington Beach, CA

I purchased this for the polyphonic mode and an upgrade from my $15 Korg (not that the Korg is bad) I wanted something a bit more dedicated so I didn't have to grab the tuner ۡ that, and I'm a bit obsessed with constantly checking tuning. The Polyphonic mode is only good to check which strings are out of wack.. not for tuning. That said ۡ you don't have to switch modes to go into single string mode. Just pluck the individual string ۡ this is where the tuner shines. It is much more accurate in this mode.. it is QUICK and the display is nice. I'm happy with this tuner.

what a time saver

By phreddybee

from toledo, ohio

this has to be the easiest tuner i have used in my 50 years of playing. i prefer the needle mode, and when i strum all strings, i'm in tune. after the guitar sits while on break, i can just pick up my strat, give it a strum, and i'm ready. highly recommended

Polytastic!

By Chandler

from Tulsa, OK

When I first saw this tuner, I thought that it was a really cool idea. I didn't really know how well it would work, but when I first tried it out, I thought it worked pretty well. I really wanted one at that point, but I thought that it was a bit expensive, so I waited until there was one of those Guitar Center coupon sale things. It ended up costing me about $85. At some point after using it at home, I really began to like the thing. It actually seems fairly accurate in polychromatic mode, but it's insanely accurate in monochromatic mode because of the variable-intensity LED's that the screen has. The tuner seems really sturdy; it's made of fairly heavy duty metal. I haven't had the chance to use it in concert yet, but I think it should really help to made sure that I stay in tune between songs. As for having it on while playing, it is unfortunate that it doesn't have a "thru" setting, but I might just get a volume pedal with a tuner-out anyway. I highly, highly recommend this tuner!

Great Idea but...

By A.J.

from Hacienda Hts, Ca

in polyphonic mode the dots on the lcd dispaly to view which string is out of tune is so small for me to see that inside of putting the pedal on the floor I put it on top of my amp head. Since I want something that I want to leave on the floor this will not work out for me. Really sad cause I love the feel and look better then the boss tuning pedals. Maybe for the next version they could make the dots bigger

No more tu-2

By Shawn D

from West Palm Beach, Florida

Dig this pedal way more than a tu-2. Both are good pedals, but looking for a true bypass pedal is what made me try the Polytune. For me, the Polytune has a WAY faster response to striking a string for tuning, and holds the note for way longer making tuning alot faster . With the tu-2, I had to strike a string about 3-4 times for it to register, then it would only show the sharpness or flatness for a few seconds before i had to strike it again to keep the display lit. I also agree that they could have put a pass-through feature to make the tuner even more effective during performances, but its not a deal-breaker. I had 2 tu-2's, 1 for my electric and 1 for my acoustic. But now i have 2 Polytunes. This pedal is not perfect, but is definitely preferred if your looking to spend $100 bucks on a tuner.
