Overview

The Nova System is the complete, floor-based effects solution for the dedicated guitar player who knows quality when he sees it. Its unique inclusion of an all-analog programmable distortion/overdrive section under preset and expression control makes it the perfect choice whether you want to trim down your rack setup, step up from your pedal patchwork or simply just want the ultimate combination of operational simplicity and audio superiority.

Add to this an array of effects taken straight from the king of floor-based multi-effect processors; G-System and you have top-notch compression, EQ, noise gate, modulation, pitch, delay and reverb right at your feet. All you need is a guitar and an amp and you're good to go - first class.

Genuine, Analog Drive Circuit

What makes Nova System so remarkably different is the NDT - Nova Drive Technology - a unique drive and distortion circuit that gets you the best of both worlds: World-class analog distortion and overdrive with digital control. This is the real deal - no modeling. While the NDT is 100 percent analog and physically separated from the digital effects, its control potmeters are digital. This way you can tweak, store and recall as many drive settings as you want - you can even hook up an expression pedal and control the amount of distortion in real-time. Its wide gain range covers your every need from light breakup to heavy distortion.

Top-notch Effects

Equipped with TC branded quality effects from delays and reverbs to compressor, EQ and modulation, the TC Electronic Nova System is the obvious all-in-one effect processor for any guitarist who wants setup simplicity without sacrificing tonal fidelity. All neatly programmable and storable in 60 user presets. Its 30 factory presets give you a demonstration of just what the Nova System provides; great sound quality and an immense versatility of effects combinations - all designed to get you started right out of the box.

There were alot of problems in 08' with the Nova system. I bought mine in OCT 08' and the dealer assured me that TC said they have fixed the issue. I've used it in front of my Fender Deville 2x 12 equiped with Celestion Vintage 30's (which were not stock on the amp.) I also use a volume pedal. It's the only multi-effect unit that I would consider professional quality. I don't like other multi units becasue they sound as cheesy and processed as they look. I also don't like multi units with the COSM technology. I don't want extra pre-amps. I just want a great basic tube tone and great effects to add to it. The Nova system allows me to dial in the right type of drive with some pretty nice delay and reverb. I like to mix a room reverb from the Nova w/ the Fender verb from the amp. Sometimes I play certain rooms and just want to kill the big reverb so I step on the button and it's off! I don't have to change presets. I can turn off the effect as I need. I love that about this unit. The distortion is warm, crunchy and BIG! I can juice it up and get a very 80's guitar tone by turning on and adjusting the built in EQ. Actually it would be nice if there was a stomp button for the EQ but there isn't. Also the control parameters can be confusing. I don't care what Hi-cut and Low-cut are, just let me see the EQ wave shape so I can program it like a graphic EQ. Other than that, it's built like a tank, and sounds great. The Nova system is awesome! I love it.

The price has dropped significantly on these units in the last two weeks. Guitar Center was awesome in matching the price of another on-line store and I was very much looking forward to hooking up my Nova System. I watched several tutorial videos, knew how to set up my input signal, knew to plug into the drive input and was getting a really nice sound when I noticed my guitar was a little out of tune. Bad idea. I hit the "hold for tuning" button and held it. The display showed two red zeros instead of the note I was playing (no matter which note I played). I thought this was odd, but didn't think too much of it, assuming perhaps I'd misunderstood the tuner function. The tuner otherwise seemed to be working but that's when I realized that no matter what I did, I could not exit the tuner function. I've tried to reset the system parameters, I've tried to hit single buttons, multiple buttons, I've tried everything I can think of - no exit to the tuner function. This means I also can not access the tap tempo function of the unit. And to make matters worse, the Pitch button on my unit is not active in Pedal mode or Preset mode. In Pedal mode I can not access the Pitch effects. In Preset mode I can not use the Pitch button to page down through banks, I can only use the Mod button to page up. Now, I'm fairly confident that Guitar Center will make this right, but the bottom line is I have a gig on Sunday and I was really hoping to use this baby! Given the new price I will probably try to get a functioning unit and still give it a go, but this is really making me wonder about whether the unit will hold up over the long haul. I'd suggest you try your unit out in the store and make sure it's fully functional before you take it home. Had I realized the problem immediately I could have had them ship another unit immediately. Big bummer for me.

Software/hardware malfunction is a MAJOR ISSUE

AWESOME

By Levon Tarver

from Macon, Ga

Product does everything as advertised. There are a lot of misconceptions about how it works or whether it colors signal or not. 1. It is not a difficult system to get used to. Programming is a breeze (I watched the videos before it even arrived and was flying around the thing in minutes). 2. The manual is NOT confusing at all. 3. There is not a delay when switching presets. When you have the system in stompbox mode (pedal mode) the Reverb, Comp, and Drive switches double as preset shortcuts and you have to hold them until the screen acknowledges your request to change presets (about a second or so). If the Nova is in preset mode there is no need to hold the switches down. If you want instantaneous preset changing while in pedal mode (no holding of switches) just get a midi switcher (e.g. Midi Mouse or Midi moose) or a G Switch (uses the expression pedal jack instead of Midi). 4. When set up right the signal is as transparent as it can get. I did A/B testing of guitar straight in vs. through the Nova with no signal coloration. Took me less than a minute to get the input level adjusted right. There aren't as many FX options as a line 6 m9/ M13, but you get sooooo much more control. 3 Band parametric EQ? Check. Noise Gate? Check. Option of series, semi parallel, or parallel routing of FX? Check. Advanced configurations for compressor? Check. Run 6 effects simultaneously and still have boost on tap? Check. It just goes on and on. This thing is a seriously powerful tool and anyone who spends time crafting their tone with it will be pleased. From what the forums are showing the reliability issues on the new ones are a thing of the past as well. I purchased a refurb'd one and bought the GC 3 year coverage with the money I saved.

TC Nova System

By DAVE KNIGHTLY

from Hebron, CT

This is an incredible piece of equipment. Like many others who have written reviews, owned all the pedals. Will now sell them. Sounds are fantastic. The only negative was the manual, it is terrible and could be written with clearer instructions on how to move around the system once you take it out of the box. It took a day, but figured out how to program my own patches and to store them. The TC Nova website for users is great and the users understand all of this and really are an excellent resource. Buy the system, you will not be disappointed. BTW, the quality of the construction of the system is studio grade, really well made!

Nova Limited Edition -Failed due to Overdrive and Distortion leaking into Clean Signal when Turned off

By Brent Bowman

from Fort Wayne, IN

Disappointed because I really wanted this unit to work for me. It really could have cleaned up my setup. I planned on using the unit in front of a clean class A amp and use the onboard drives in addition to some of my others. 2 Issues arose strait away as I began to play. When using the unit in pedal mode with no effects or the drive cicuit engaged there was a low level distortion present in the signal. The only work around was to take the gain for the drive selected and set it to zero. This corrected the problem, adn probably would suit some users that wanted to use the unit in preset mode rather than pedal mode. The second issue is that with no effects engaged there is an audible digital artifact in the signal that follows the tempo of the tap tempo switch. These two issues gave me enough reason to return due to added noise into my setup. These issues are known by TC, but no further information on solutions to them in the works. These may have not as much of a dealbreaker if I was planning to use the unit in an FX loop.

Complexity, clarity, dynamic, quiet

By william symes

from fayetteville, AR

What I like most about the nova system is its transparency. I use it with a two-rock classic type 3 with a passive loop, meaning the two-rock does not have a buffered (boosted) loop and the nova needs to boost the signal to keep the tone from degrading. (my Genz Benz black pearl also has a passive loop) It does this perfectly. At first I was unable to remove "hiss" from the signal and then found all the volume settings, and boost settings in the menu, and was able to dial in the quiet. The nova system's greatest benefit and greatest pain is the complexity of the programing. You have to spend time with this to get it functioning great. However, once you understand it, you can fly through the settings and the channels. The channel switch is a bit clunky and prevents immediate/quick changes between banks/channels. However, I've never, ever found the need to change channels during a song. With all the effects available with each dedicated channel, I'm not sure what would require immediate channel switching. All the effects have nearly infinite tweaking ability to find that exact tone/effect that you want. Very, very high marks on tweak-a-bility. I've had mine for a year and would replace it immediately if it was ever "lost". There's not another unit I would consider. The only feature that would improve the nova system is a built in looper. So far it DOES NOT have a looper. But, it has everything else. I have never had a problem with the unit with 1 year of active use. I did purchase a case to protect it. It will work great with either a passive or buffered effects loop or simply between the guitar and amp.

Fantastic Quality Effects

By William M Keller

from Columbus, OH

Never have written a review so I will keep it brief. Have owned several other multi-effect units. I usually find they are good at producing a lot of good sounds, but no great sounds. The Nova system however changes all that - the quality of the individual effects is excellent, construction and ease of use is supherb. The only negative I could possibly say is that the manual doesn't do a great job of assisting - but the videos on TC's website make up for what the manual lacks. Very pleawed

Great Sounding Standard Guitar Effects and Reverb

By Ross Whitney

from Irvine, CA

The delays and modulations are crystal clear, the compressor is very transparent, or can be set to aggressive levels, the reverb is smooth, pitch tracks well, and the analog drive is quite good from mild breakup to full on thrash. I haven't found any other guitar multi-effects pedal with this quality of sound. The limitations are the difficult-to-use, hyper-sensitive tuner (it doesn't stabilize on the tuned pitch), only one mod effect can be used at a time (eg., no simultaneous tremolo and chorus), a limited set of effects (e.g., no rotary speaker simulation), and a single routing option (either in front of amp or in loop, but not both at the same time). These limitations are not significant to me because I am using it as a minimalist practice and idea-generating device. I would need to supplement it with other pedals if I played live. Sound quality was more important to me than flexibility. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for recording.

Great for non-metal

By Winzlo

from Minnesota

This pedal has everything I could ask for in terms of the core modulation, pitch, delay, reverb, compressor and boost features. Distortion/OD seems a little week and to my ears, has too much of the guitar mixed in. Adding a Nova Drive resolved my issues and gave me every tone imaginable for music of ALL styles. Since I play in a cover band, that is really crucial. So, if you are a non-Metal guitar player, you will probably find everything you would ever need in this pedal. If you add Metal or are exlusively a metal player, add a Nova Drive, connect via MIDI and you will have everything you could want!

Absolutely Awesome!

By Ray-Ray

from Tampa, FL

This is an absolutely wonderful multi effects unit! For the price, I promise you will not find anything like it. If you are a fan of T.C.'s delays, reverbs and mods than you will love this unit. Controlling the unit is super easy, and saving presets is a snap. If you are worried about tonal integrity...stop. When I plugged in and ran it in front of my set up it didnۡt compromise my tone. Whether I was using a Les Paul, Music Man, or an RG series, the Nova kept all of their unique sounds intact. The drive channel is not as disappointing as I first feared. I use it pretty often. Itۡs not like running into an all tube 100 watt head, but itۡs analog and you can get some good solid tones out of it. Iۡve done some commercial work with the drive and some other players couldnۡt believe it. The Nova System has convinced me to purchase the G-System too. If you can get the Nova System do so, you wonۡt be disappointed. Keep the music going!
