Overall if you're looking for a dedicated effects unit at a great price that works well with MIDI and plays well with other units then this is the product for you. I've been playing guitar for 20+ years and this unit sounds great in a serial setup whether through my preamp (Sansamp PSA1.1-another great product) or my Carvin V3 head. There's a bit of a learning curve to programming and some of the routing functions but once you get passed that, you're golden. I highly recommend this unit. I never do reviews like this, but I read some of the negative reviews and felt compelled to give this unit a great review because it's a great product. Just learn to take care of your gear by treating the knobs and buttons nicely and do yourself a favor and get a nice rack case if you're going to have rack gear. This is a pro unit, it deserves a pro case.
For this having been my first experience with rackmount effects (I've played for over 20 years with nothing but pedals), this unit had the most features in terms of delays, reverbs and modulations for the price that I could find. I'm not really too interested in the EQ, gate or compression but they are handy and serve their function should I need them. We mic everything through our PA and we have a gate already on all the instruments so the noise gate isn't something that benefits me greatly or that I would even need to use. I'm not running super high-gan distortion. The different routing options and modifiers are great and work well with my midi controller. I was wanting a unit that performed strictly effects as I have a rackmount preamp for clean/distortion tones. This works well for me in that respect. The midi function from my GM2 to my midi/firewire interface is awesome and works flawlessly. The Vyzor editor is great for editing, saving (for backup purposes) and transferring presets and I've had no problems.
Again, with this being my first experience with rackmount effects I can't compare this to something else. I have played the POD modelers and other units out there and this isn't even in the same category as it is effects only. Aside from that, I've read that some people find the buttons and rotary knobs somewhat cheap. With this in mind, I did rate this a little lower in that respect, but my experience varies. I keep mine in a heavy duty rack case at all times and I'm careful how I push the buttons when I need to. Once you get all your presets programmed, it's basically a non-issue. So no issues with that. The case is steel, everything seems solid.
Again, first experience. For what you get in this little box, this thing sounds fantastic for the price. My brother tried to convince me to get the GT10, this thing is much better for my needs. I don't need something with built-in modeling and would rather have a dedicated unit for effects and this does the job nicely.

I bought a G Major 2 which worked until the warranty period expired. First the power supply failed, and was replaced for $100. Since then the unit freezes whenever it receives a signal rendering it useless. The repairer says that this is a common problem seen in 1 to 2 percent of the units, requiring a major service including removal and re-soldering of all ICs, removal of front and soldering of ribbon connectors. TC responded that they have a warranty policy and that my complaining about wasting[$] on this piece of rubbish is not "fair". Unit has broken, will never buy a TC product again.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

Using with Soleman midi controller, EP25 mission eng. exp.pedal & Bogner Shiva 20th with KT88's. Learning curve is a bit steep with both. Have an M-One for the studio and knew I would like the G-Maj. 2. The more I dig into it the more functions I'm able to fine tune & use. Not crazy about any of the presets but they can be used as a starting point to create your own presets. The real value is in taking the time to learn all the components of each effect then building your own combinations to match your style and genre of playing. Very versatile and a good value even with adding a controller and expression pedal which you need to use the unit live. The built in tuner is great and the relays can be programmed to switch amp channels automatically. Great for Metal, Blues, Jazz or Country when pared with a good amp.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

the effects are great and (it does not muddy my Marshall ) my Marshall gives me the distortion I love, and the TC gives me all the effects including compressor limiter, delay chorus flanger phaser, double delay , Guitar tuner all and the effects are totally programmable so you can custom design your own sound, weather to run the effects in series, or parallel, or (series parallel) I run this through my effects loop on my( Marshall JCM 2000 Dsl100)
using a {Midi switcher Voodoo lab} I can program the effects and channel switching all through the
TC G Major II, say your in crunch modes on the amp and you want to go to clean mode with different effects running you can program this unit to just that to switch effects and clean / distortion simultaneously this unit is all you need a lounge with a good tube amp

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I bought this for live performances to use in the effects loop of my tube head. When it worked, no doubt about it, it sounded good but this unit is not intuitive at all especially when trying to program with a midi foot pedal. Not long after the warranty was up the left side output jack stopped working producing only static, so just continued to use just the right side instead. After a while wasn't getting any sound out of it at all , the display still shows and everything else seems to be working but no output so useless to me. Got about 18 months of frustrated use out of it before it finally farted in my face. I like to think I take good care of my equipment but this thing is probably suited for a studio environment where it never gets moved - very temperamental.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

Got this as a much needed upgrade since it had so many attractive effects in one product. Using this with a Marshall JMP-1 and Boogie 50/50, along with midi hush. For the price, you cannot find anything even close to the quality and range of effects this provides. Additionally, using the Behringer FCB1010 to control real time parameters - like they were made for each other. The majority of the time, I'm running dry with nothing other than compression but when you want effects, you can't beat this. Comments:
      - No tonal coloration, completely transparent.
      - Compressor is a real plus; great quality, no noise. I'm generally skeptical of them in multi effects processors but this one is really good.
      - Have it setup mostly as recommended by the manual, series path after the preamp, etc. and prior to power amp. Used to go through preamp effects loop but the control is better this way and the sound quality of the unit keeps the tone right.
      - Reverbs and Choruses are incredible.
      - Delay is very good, the dual delay could have more control parameters for levels, etc.
      - Detune is also a great alternate for chorus in distortion tones
      - Whammy effect is spot on.
      - Phaser settings are also great.
      - Flange is just okay (why can't someone make a strong flange anymore...)
      - The MOD controllers for real time parameter control are great - I'm changing 3 parameters on one pedal for a certain patches.
      - Octave settings are pretty clean and track well.
      - Harmonizer settings track well but have a little bit of tininess to them - for live settings that will get covered up by everyone else.
      - Factory settings are a bit extreme. If you dial back the mix, many are useful with minor or no tweaking. Also, comes with 100 factory settings and even on the patches where the effect is turned off, there is a setting provided. Basically, you should go through all 100 patches and individually check out each effect - you'll find some really useful stuff.
      - The message boards for TC on the G-Major 2 are good, a lot of postings of effects/songs.
      - One nit I'm still trying to conquer is that in some settings, when I initially hit the patch the volume jumps a couple db before settling back to where it should be. Suggestions?

Haven't gotten into a couple of the others other than some messing around. There is a lot of possibilities and you'll need to invest some time going through it.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I found this unit with a great price and since my 4 space rack only had 2 spaces occupied, I forked over the cash and added this to my collection. My first rack was shaping up nicely.
The users manual is pretty complex. I've taken graduate classed and struggled to get through this. I kept thinking about the Vox Tonelab that was written for guitarist. This was NOT.
I do like the sounds I get out of this unit. WOW. It's clear sounds are crystal. A vast array of colors to mods and tones.
Maybe I need to be more patient. Its good enough that I didn't give up and list it on some website.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I bought this to replace my jungle of pedals. I did so based on reviews and hype. I thought this was the way to go forsure. I was wrong.

You would think that after so many issues with the GM1 that TCE would have worked out the kinks and come back with a better unit as a whole. That didn't happen.

The major flaws in these units are simple. VERY hard to program, even for those with experience and the build quality. The main flaw in the build quality is the ribbon that connects the front panel with the board. The ribbon is negatively affected by a lot of factors. In fact its affected by basically anything and everything.

The next mogul was programming the GM2 with the FCB1010, this was a headache that a bottle of tylenol couldn't help.

Avoid this unit at all costs. The effects are beautiful and extremely high quality, it's too bad there's so many hurdles in the way of using them.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

This is a great sounding processor, especially for the price. All the effects sound great. It's pretty easy to use, although, if you've never written/edited patches in a multi fx unit there might a slight learning curve. I don't know how common this is, but I also use the parametric eq on some patches to fake the overall eq curve of amps with different "out-of-the-box" sounds than my main amp. This isn't the same as having a dozen different amps but it's passable and let's me save space and cash by not having a dozen amps for certain sounds I'd only use occasionally. The only downside is no rotary speaker simulator, you can get pretty close by tinkering with the modulation and filter effects though. I'd recommend this unit for virtually any situation.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I got this because it was the best sounding rack effects for my budget and it really does sound great and doesn't significantly color the sound of my Mesa Mark V. However, there is sigficant latency when changing to presets that use certian effects, sometimes as much as a whole second for the new patch to initiate. The Whammy effect is unusable because of the one second lag between the sweep of the expression pedal and the sound of the Whammy. I waited too long to return it thinking I could fix the issue, assuming it was operator error. No such luck and this issue is documented on many blogs.
Now, much to my disappointment, the unit will not save changes to the mix level for the delay and reverb banks. Are you kidding me TC?!

            By JAMES MILEY

            from Baton Rouge

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I use a full pedal board in front of my amp w/ various high end pedals for time based effects. I added an original G Major to my amp effects loop 10 years ago to enhance my rig; good move. I recently upgraded to the G Major 2 and feel good about it so far. The improvements to the reverbs are nice and the factory presets are improved starting points for set up. I don't care for the display of tap tempo on the new unit but that's pretty minor. This unit is a solid processor for players looking to rack units without going into the $ 1,000's budget range.
