Best effects rack

By Hugo

from Albany, NY

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I have tried many different multi effects, tried Line 6 X3, Boss GT-10, etc. I tried only using the effects (no overdrive or preamp), so I could have the flexibility of a digital multi effects could give you. But all of this kill the sound of you preamp. If you have a nice tube amp, G Major will works perfect, no coloring your tone at all, and the effects are very high quality. It sure worth the money.

great price, good tone!

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

Sounds great for the low price. It doesn't colored your tone at all. I use it with my mesa roadking through the loops and it sounds great(it takes some time to adjust the input/output levels on the g-major so can get the max out of your amp)

Great quality, but not easy to program

By Zach Morrison

from hermitage, PA

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I've had my gmajor for about 6 years now. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the effects and the versatility of the unit. The built in tuner also eliminates the need for an additional rack space unit. However this unit is not without its cons. From my experience and others this unit is very difficult to program to an external midi controller, especially if midi comes off as rocket science to you as it does me. the gminor you can purchase with it is nice but can't have presets assigned to it. I finally found someone who has the (Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller) programmed to it and said it works nicely. I think i'm going to have them program it for me. Other than that this product is essential if your looking for quality effects in a rack unit. The price is a little steep but as I look back I never regret buying it, and can't wait to have it programmed right.

Great effects with plenty of options

By Marshal

from Ruston, LA

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

The G Major 2 is a great step up for the serious musician. It has all the time based effects you need with plenty of adjustments. The G Major has a remarkable pure tone. Although the GSP 1101 adds overdrives for the same price range, the tone is slightly processed sounding. The only draw back to the G Major is that you have to have some way of switching channels via midi. I use the Ground Control Pro, which works great. It comes with a few good presets, but it takes a little getting use to to create your own. I highly suggest reading the manual. In my opinion this is the best all in one time based effects unit available for your money.

Almost settled for the Rocktron Expression...but...

By MAtthew Gehrcke

from Sagnaw, MI

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

This Unit replaces my old ART SGX2000 Express... Effects are excellent, the unit does not change the tone of the guitar amp...has only what I need (and a couple I don't). Takes about 15min-half hour getting used to the programming sequence. The EQ is versatile in what parameters can be programmed but being only a 3 band...its still very limited. The big seller for me was the ability to control the channel functions of my amp head through presets. Only one midi cable and pedal needed! (FYI using and old peavy midi pedal and have a couple ART X-15 as back-ups..they all work with no programming/set up). I run a B-52 At 100 head, through a Rocktron Super C Noise Gate, in series with the GMajor2....I may add a programmable EQ rack into the mix (different stages require different settings)... But for now...The Rack is Back! and I am a happy guitar player again.

Solid effects unit

from Baton Rouge

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

I use a full pedal board in front of my amp w/ various high end pedals for time based effects. I added an original G Major to my amp effects loop 10 years ago to enhance my rig; good move. I recently upgraded to the G Major 2 and feel good about it so far. The improvements to the reverbs are nice and the factory presets are improved starting points for set up. I don't care for the display of tap tempo on the new unit but that's pretty minor. This unit is a solid processor for players looking to rack units without going into the $ 1,000's budget range.

Comments about TC Electronic G-Major 2 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor:

Got this as a much needed upgrade since it had so many attractive effects in one product. Using this with a Marshall JMP-1 and Boogie 50/50, along with midi hush. For the price, you cannot find anything even close to the quality and range of effects this provides. Additionally, using the Behringer FCB1010 to control real time parameters - like they were made for each other. The majority of the time, I'm running dry with nothing other than compression but when you want effects, you can't beat this. Comments:
    - No tonal coloration, completely transparent.
    - Compressor is a real plus; great quality, no noise. I'm generally skeptical of them in multi effects processors but this one is really good.
    - Have it setup mostly as recommended by the manual, series path after the preamp, etc. and prior to power amp. Used to go through preamp effects loop but the control is better this way and the sound quality of the unit keeps the tone right.
    - Reverbs and Choruses are incredible.
    - Delay is very good, the dual delay could have more control parameters for levels, etc.
    - Detune is also a great alternate for chorus in distortion tones
    - Whammy effect is spot on.
    - Phaser settings are also great.
    - Flange is just okay (why can't someone make a strong flange anymore...)
    - The MOD controllers for real time parameter control are great - I'm changing 3 parameters on one pedal for a certain patches.
    - Octave settings are pretty clean and track well.
    - Harmonizer settings track well but have a little bit of tininess to them - for live settings that will get covered up by everyone else.
    - Factory settings are a bit extreme. If you dial back the mix, many are useful with minor or no tweaking. Also, comes with 100 factory settings and even on the patches where the effect is turned off, there is a setting provided. Basically, you should go through all 100 patches and individually check out each effect - you'll find some really useful stuff.
    - The message boards for TC on the G-Major 2 are good, a lot of postings of effects/songs.
    - One nit I'm still trying to conquer is that in some settings, when I initially hit the patch the volume jumps a couple db before settling back to where it should be. Suggestions?

Haven't gotten into a couple of the others other than some messing around. There is a lot of possibilities and you'll need to invest some time going through it.
