Overview

EchoBrain is the natural choice for every vintage delay nut out there. Sporting a classic, all-analog bucket brigade design, this compact delay pedal is set to serve up all the warm vintage echoes, and gorgeous runaway delays you could ever need. Kick it in and get ready to hear the echo-angels sing.

Echoes Of The Past
EchoBrain is your ticket to those iconic delay tones of yesteryear. You won’t find any pristine digital delays or futuristic multi-tap echoes here. Instead you’ll find lush and organic repeats that’ll carry your notes away on a brilliant bed of ambience. Perfect for Gilmour-esque solos, Albert Lee-like slapbacks or fluttery post-rock chord progressions.

Runaway Brigade
The all-analog bucket brigade circuit inside EchoBrain will give you up to 300ms of delay time. At lower delay time settings your echoes will be more pristine and punchy, but the longer you make it, the more you’ll begin to introduce that natural high-end roll-off that’s the essence of a great analog echo. Now crank the repeats and introduce some glorious self-oscillation for epic Radiohead-ish runaway delays.

Room for Greatness
EchoBrain captures the tones of the past perfectly, but without having to house them in the big old clunky enclosures of the past. Instead you get beautiful tones encapsulated in a compact metal chassis with top-mounted I/Os, so no matter your pedalboard size, you’ll always have room for great delay tones.

Backstage Pass – All Access
As you can see, EchoBrain is plug-and-play simple, but let’s just run through the controls for good measure. It’ll be fun, we promise!

Bend Time and Space
Controls how long it takes for the delayed signal to be played back. Set it low for faux-reverb tones and old-school slaps or max it for longer echoes perfect for solos or ambient arpeggios.

Please Repeat
Determines how many times the delay is repeated. Set it low for a single repeat or max it for a pure echo-inferno.

Sir Mix-A-Lot
Controls how loud you want the delay to be. We think you have the wild and youthful audacity to handle the rest from here.

The Ins and Outs
The I/Os have been placed on the top, so the jack cables don’t take up any precious vertical space on your board.

True To Your Tone
EchoBrain sports True Bypass so your precious core tone never gets compromised. When EchoBrain is off, it’s really off.

When the delay I wanted (which was $100 more) issued a second version and raised the price $20, I decided to switch gears and look for a different analog delay to replace my vintage tabletop BBD delay. Once I realized that I didn't need the extra features of the more expensive delay, I went with this and have not yet been disappointed! I could reproduce my favorite long slapback sound from a song I recorded, plus I use the shorter delay times to create a "thickened" and/or "metallic" sound. Yes, it will go into self-oscillation, which makes it interesting instrument in itself (though this is a common BBD delay feature).

The only downsides I experienced were the size, weight, and inconvenience of battery replacement. The case is roughly 3"x5" (larger than TC's other pedals like Hall of Fame)—this was a bit of a problem as I had a narrow slot on my pedalboard. Fortunately, it had top-loading jack ports and the case just barely fit the opening I had alloted for it. It's heavy too (though its solid feeling will reassure some). Lastly, I was a bit frustrated that I had to unscrew four screws, which practially disassembles the thing, in order to add a 9V battery. Luckily for me, I had already planned to use a 1 Spot on it.

This pedal, though lacking in some of the bells and whistles of something like the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail, is a true, well-made analog BBD delay at an amazing price.

Not too bad but not great.

Comments about TC Electronic Echobrain Analog Delay Effect Pedal:

It's an analog delay that does what it says it will do. Turn the repeat knob more than halfway and it will go into self-oscillation. The price is much better than a lot of delay pedals out there. However, you should keep in mind that this only goes up to 300ms. In my opinion, this is the pedal's Achilles Heel. It's a well built, affordable pedal that sounds good. But if you need a longer delay time, look elsewhere.

The Echobrain can take you from spanky slap back delay to the Edge. It is an easy to use, no frills pedal. The pedal housing is sturdy. Honestly, it is built like a tank. Try one. For the price you won't be disappointed.

      Great Bang for the Buck

Comments about TC Electronic Echobrain Analog Delay Effect Pedal:

For the price, can't beat it. If you can live with only 300ms of delay, then this one's for you. The delay works great in the effects loop, its got a natural compression to the delay taps, so if you play hard, the delays come out saturated. Works great for that "tape echo" vibe.

Do I wish there was a way to set mix to 100% wet, no dry? Sure, but at this price point I can't complain.

exactly what I expected. Great priced, virtually indestructible and good control over timing and repeats. From mild to wild. Only wish it came with a power cable as changing the battery requires pulling the pedal apart

Comments about TC Electronic Echobrain Analog Delay Effect Pedal:

I was on the hunt for analog delay and this bad boy came along. The cost is what caught my attention and thought I'd give it a try. I have played digital pedals that don't sound near as good, plus the thing is solid. It is sensitive but responsive, if the time and mix are both up past 2 it does feedback, so you'll have to fine tune it to your liking. It works great with both electric and acoustic.
