Bass player's point of view

By Sean

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

I've only used a few different delays (the memory man, memory boy, memory toy, boss dd-7, carbon) and this pedal is the first looper I've ever played with, but it is amazing, especially for the price point! All of the presets sound great, and the tone print ability just makes it that much better. With other delays, I've had a hard time working with modulation, especially with my bass, but this one seems to work with it, not against it.

Took a Little Getting Used To, But...

By Glenn

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

Worth the effort. Building a new smaller more portable pedal board/case and making repeat purchases on some of the absolute go-to pedals. I have a core set of about 5 pedals that I use almost 100% of the time. Although I love my MXR Carbon Copy I wanted to try this one because it sounded really interesting. I had to play with it for about an hour (BTW, it took about 0 seconds to get the Carbon Copy how I wanted it) but it is really growing on me. Actually, I am glad I have both of them now. I can put the small board downstream of the larger pedal board when I want to use this pedal. Has some unique sounds you can't get out of other pedals. Loving this pedal more each time I use it. Finding it easy to get to the sound I am looking for and there are more than 1.

sounds great, is small, and was on sale what more could you want?

By Sam

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

If you are reading this, you are probably like, me a completely obsessed with pedals. I have way too many guitar and amps and pedals. I have been a professional musician for 20 years and play with a complementary Christian church. First things first, this delay sounds great. It is very real and very warm. I love it. There are lots of modes to get tons of different delay sounds. It is great live or recorded. It has ones I uses a lot and others I will only use for that weird guitar part in a bridge on the last song on the record. Next, due to the high demand for real estate on every pedal board, this pedal is small and does not take up much space. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is the loop function. The loop functions works well, but it lowers the volume of your signal, which I do not quite understand. Maybe to have a lower volume to be able to play over??? Not sure. Either way a great pedal. I am sure you can find a good deal on one of these so what more could you want?

5-star sound

By Mark

from Kansas City, MO

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

This pedal has many amazing sounds in it, all based on classic analog delays. It might as well get 5 stars for those features. Throw in the stereo ins and outs, true bypass/dry-through, and it's a great value. It really pays for itself if you find 2 usable settings, and that's pretty easy to do, whether it's reverse modulated, Echoplex, Echo-Rec, 2290...and so on. The quarter note/dotted/both switch and strum tempo feature make this a very user- and performance-friendly device. Also: Do not be discouraged by the lack of Alter Ego V2 TonePrints! There are none specifically for it, but you may "beam in" TonePrints from the extensive Flashback library. There are only 3 issues with this pedal: 1) the selector knob does not click or detent into place much at all. I know, it's a small thing, but competitors like Digitech do that quite well. It's much easier to feel one's way between settings via clicks and detents on a dark stage than it is to get out a flashlight or arbitrarily play through the pedal settings until stumbling upon the right one. 2) The ultra-cool TonePrint feature does not work on all guitars or basses. Both of my passive basses can "beam in" TonePrints perfectly while my active bass does so unreliably and my Epiphone Sheraton II doesn't accept the signals at all. 3) TC Electronic, though great for putting tons of thought and research into a pedal such as this, does not have the best support for things like issue #2. (2&3 really apply to all TC Electronic TonePrint enabled devices, and even if one's entire guitar/bass collection isn't able to "beam in" TonePrints, one can still load TonePrints in via a computer cable.) I really can't believe that this pedal and/or the V4 version isn't more popular. I chose it over a Digitech DL-8, but just barely. Although the DL-8 had a greater variety of delay effects and amazing control over them, the Alter Ego V2's offerings are more classic and add to my tone.

New Echo exceeds all other delay pedals I have owned.

By John

from Yorba Linda, CA

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

Purchased the Alter Ego and T2 at the same time and the Mojomojo a day later. This echo pedal is not only better than any other echo pedal that I've owned (and I've owned a few over the last 40 years) it is better than any I've played through. It plays very nicely with the T2, I'd say if you are going to buy either one, then buy the other. Their stereo input/outputs match up and you can connect them on a pedal board with a couple of the double male 1/4" inch connectors, taking up less room than normal. It only has one Tone Print slot, which is a programmable preset on your dial of echos, but takes the tone prints from previously released delay pedals with tone print. One cool feature is the U2 echo, dotted 1/8 note thing. If you cover their stuff or play in a worship band that uses those tones, then this is the one for you. If it sounds good, it is good. This sounds really good.

Exceeded my expectations!

By Robert

from Birmingham AL

Comments about TC Electronic Alter Ego V2 Vintage Echo Delay Effects Pedal:

I am no expert in vintage delays and I have only played through two of the vintage units this pedal seeks to emulate. That being said I can't speak to how close the Alter Ego nails the originals but I can say this may be the best sounding delay I have. It's warm and very natural sounding and you can find something useful in every preset. The Binson setting is especially nice. This pedal replaced a Digitech digidelay and is on my board along with a Flashback X4 and a MXR Carbon Copy. I would highly recommend this if you're looking for something a little different in a delay and as always with TC Electronics products the quality seems to be great.
