Tons of power with a feature set that leaves little to be desired.

The BH500 bass amp head is the latest addition to TC Electronic's Bass Amp 2.0 lineup! Combined with the BC cabs of your choice, it stacks up to become any rig you need for small bar gigs, indoor rock clubs, outdoor stadium concerts—you name it!

The BH500 boasts razor-sharp tone-shaping tools like TubeTone™ emulator for tube-like sound and response, SpectraComp™ compression, and bass-tuned tone controls. Also, its three user memories let you change your tone at any given time. An integrated tuner lets you tune up in silence before you rock.

A conventional compressor is often dominated by the lower string, but with SpectraComp you get per-string multi-band compression that evens out across all strings. You get an even, rock-solid tone that cuts through any mix whether you play fingerstyle, with a heavy pick, or slap the strings hard.

The TubeTone™ effect was originally introduced on RH450. Most transistor designs try to replicate tube sound using one small preamp tube, but why not take the crucial characteristics of a full preamp and power amp into account? Both are essential to the sound when you want that classic tube warmth as well as when you go for a full-on overdriven rock sound with a massive punch!

BH500 can store three of your favorite tones. For instance, if you need a nice chunk of overdrive on specific passages, presets are king. Not to mention, with great sounding bass tones and seamless switching between them, you will be able to focus on the important thing, rocking out!

Built-in bass tuner
Every once in a while you need to tune up, and whenever that happens, just let the built-in tuner guide you. It's simple, it lets you tune silently, and it gets you back to rocking in no time.

Tone Controls and TweeterTone
EQ is always a bass essential, so the BH500 is equipped with a great-sounding 4-band EQ which is perfect for shaping your fundamental tone. Further, with two contour filters you can scoop the mid frequencies, which creates an amazing low-end punch on demand.

The tweeter control is usually located on the rear of the cabinet, but on the BH500 you can conveniently adjust the tweeter level right from the front panel. Further, the sound also gets modified slightly with filters giving you a much more intelligent control over the high frequencies that are critical for giving your sound that razor-sharp edge.

For rehearsing or jamming, you can connect your portable music player to the front-panel aux input. If you don't want to disturb the neighbors, plug in your headphones and the drivers will be muted automatically. Finally, you can send a signal to a sound engineer via the balanced XLR output (also on the front panel), or to an audio interface when you are recording.

  • Awesome Amp!

As reviewed by Rich on 3/11/2011

Just purchased my BH500 amp a few weeks ago, and totally dig the sound! Previously I had played the RH series amps while in the store, and I liked them a lot but decided that the larger conventional style head was better for me. This amp gives you crystal clear midrange right down to tons of low end growl. Tube tone can make it sound very close to my 1970s era tube amp and the compressor does NOT muddy the signal at all, somehow it balances the signal much better than any other compressor that I have previously used. With other amps I find myself using my preamp stomp box but I really don't find it necessary when using this amp. All in all a really great amp, I plan to use it for both rehearsal and gigs with either a single 4X10 bottom or my other 4x10, it has plenty of power for one or both, for sure! TC rocks!

  • Tone for days

As reviewed by Randy Bellard on 7/4/2011

I recently purchased the BH500 with the 410 cabinet and I don't think I'll ever go back to my old rig. I have played Ampeg and SWR rigs for most of my musical life and TC Electronics blows them out of the water. I have never had so much control over my tone before. I play many different styles so the presets are great when i need to switch it up. I have never heard such clear highs as when I turn up the tweeter tone and the tube tone provides a nice growl for the heavier stuff. The spectracomp is fantastic and really lets your notes ring out. I have used the contours to scoop out the mid range tones to let my lows resonate and really rumbe the room. I can make my electric sound like an acoustic with this rig. The only criticism is that there is no foot pedal associated with this model so switching preset tones mid song is very difficult. Overall, if you care about your tone and are a versitle player then this rig is for you. Get on board or get left behind...

  • Versatile Amp

As reviewed by Dave on 8/23/2011

combine this head with a TC Electronic 4x10 cab and you are set! I play 3-4 days/week some nights in smaller clubs and other nights in 2000 seat auditoriums. This baby will thump, pop and slap just the way you like it. Takes a little tweaking to figure out the EQ but once you do it's an elegant work horse with the sophistication of a much more expensive head!
