Compact combo with big punch and features.

The TC Electronic BG250-115 bass combo amp took the power and tone that made the Bass Amp 2.0 line so popular, and then loaded it up with top-notch features. The 2x10" 250W combo comes equipped with a built-in tuner, 3-band intelligent EQ and, of course, TC Electronic's trademark TonePrint system that allows users to beam professionally made effects and tones from their smartphones directly to the BG250-210, controllable with an optional footswitch.

Other features include six effects types - chorus, flanger, vibrato octave, SpectraComp and Bass Drive - a headphone output (which mutes the speaker), auxiliary input to play along with your favorite tunes, USB mini port, a mute button for quiet tuning, and a balanced XLR output for direct recording in the studio or a clean feed to the mixer for live playing.

  • Great Bang for the Buck and killer tones!!!

As reviewed by John Conley on 4/9/2014

I play a 5 string and was looking at many Combos. I tried this one, the Ampeg, and The GK 500 watt 2x10's. This one by far out performs them all. I play small bar gigs and this is perfect! The tone print is a lot of fun too.

  • Big Thing in a Small Package

As reviewed by Eldon on 7/3/2014

I am pleasantly surprised at this little amp. Currently I have a GK MB210 because I wanted to go light. However, the sound was very spread and 'watery' to my ears. Also I had an issue with the metal grill. When I saw one of these BG250 115 at my amp tech's place, I was intrigued. It certainly was light, only about 2 lbs. lighter than my GK. What I noticed was its compact design. When I plugged my bass in, I was treated by a solid core of sound, but nice and deep, thanks to the 15". After further reflection, I did lots of on-line snooping concerning the TC amp. It had received much positive buzz. So, I jumped in and ordered one. Believe me, the price on this amp is a STEAL! In my studio confines, I can't tell if this is going to have enough punch to hold up to the full band, but with the XLR out to the mains, that would solve that problem. My GK runs 350 watts and can light up a club, I don't know how the TC with its 250 output will do. I would expect that it would be in the ballpark, especially with the more focused tone it produces. Another interesting feature is that it only has one generic instrument input. I switch between standard and active pickup basses. When I put my Morley junction box in the output and did an A-B switch, I was surprised that the volume from each was consistent. No volume adjustments were necessary. Evidently there is an automatic gizmo that adapts for the different signal strengths internally. Isn't THAT something. The Tone Print channels are really nice, though the effects available, for me, will be largely outside the parameters of my music, blues and classic rock. I would have liked a tube amp overdrive effect that was somewhere in between 'A Little Grit' and 'The Beast'. However, the use of a smart phone to reprogram your channels is a very nice option. Maybe the designers/programmers in the TC company will continue to offer more FX updates too. For now, I give this a good thumbs up. I will ammend this review once I get into the full band performance and upcoming gig. That is why I have a 4 star rating. This could move up or down. I hope it will move up.

  • Little Box Big Bass

As reviewed by Frankie on 8/20/2014

I have been very impressed with this amp so far. I never expected that such a small light weight amp could deliver such a punch! Great for practice and small venues! I have been playing bass for over 25 years and have never owned an amp that would fit in the back seat of my car!!. This thing has great tone and monster low end. The tone print feature and built in tuner are just a plus for me. It sounded great right out of the box! If i had to say one negative, it would be that I wish that they had put an extension speaker jack in it so that you had the ability to maybe run a 2-10 cabinet with it, but all in all its the best bang for my buck in quiote a while.
