Overview

Co-developed with Antares Audio Technologies, the TASCAM TA-1VP vocal processor brings together everything you need for a polished, modern vocal sound. The rackmount processor includes a microphone preamp, compression, de-essing, microphone and tube modeling, and Antares' world-famous Auto-Tune pitch correction. Perfect for live performance, house of worship or studio use, the TA-1VP brings your vocal sound into the 21st century.

A high-quality XLR microphone input is provided on the TA-1VP front panel, with phantom power for condenser mics. Processing is laid out in simple-to-use blocks on the front panel, each with dedicated buttons and meters to show you exactly what's being done to the signal. Antares' microphone and tube modeling takes the input signal and gives it the character of another microphone, with a library of classics to choose from. The De-essing module removes sibilance from your signal before variable-knee compression and gating. A great-sounding digital EQ is last in the chain before output.

The Auto-Tune module can be set for any level of pitch correction, in a variety of user-selectable scales. All settings can be recalled through presets on the front panel or through MIDI. Balanced TRS input and outputs are located on the rear panel, including a Double-Track out for simulating doubled vocals. A S/PDIF digital output is also provided.

Built for every audio application from live performance to studio mixdown, TASCAM's TA-1VP is the only hardware processor with Auto-Tune technology for flawless vocal intonation.

I am very impressed with this processor. This unit has the great real-time pitch correction that Antares is known for, plus Antares mic modelling, which also does an outstanding job. I'm still experimenting with some of the mic modelling features that are a little confusing, specifically when to use or not use the lo-cut feature. Their instructions could be a little clearer on that, but overall the manual is good. The rest of the features--compressor/gate, de-esser, and two equalizers--do a fine job of helping tweak the vocal sound. I have a home studio that's not in a particularly good room, and this unit has helped greatly with shaping vocals. The presets are a good starting point, and if you follow the manual carefully, have a little patience, and have some experience with what the functions do, you should be able to greatly improve the quality of vocals on your recordings.

I purchased the Tascam TA 1-VP unit only a week ago, and have been experimenting with it for several days.... the Antares Auto Tune has a horrible glitch that renders the altered track unuseable. The problem is a scratching crackle sound like that of an old vinyl record from the needle on a less than perfect vinyl record surface. I tried turning off each section (Mic Modeling, Compressor, etc.) one at a time to isolate the problem....bought new cables... switched out cables.... only happens when the Auto Tune is engaged..... the other sections work as advertised.....very nice "tube warmth" effectm although it also increases volume level at the same time...I will probably return this unit to the store first of next week --- perhaps just a lemon ?....careful folks.

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

Used this product a total of 4 hours and the auto tune function stopped working. After many attempts to contact Tascam via e-mail with not one reply I finally called them only to find out I have to pay $90+ to have it repaired. Won't but their products again.

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

I use AutoTune EVO in ProTools all the time and wanted a nice live
version. This module is an upgraded model of a similar unit Antares was selling before bringing Tascam in to help. Seems they added the XLR on the front and a few other tweeks.

Although not nearly as versatile at AT pitch coorection as the DAW version, it has very low latency and is pretty nice in a live side car rack. I find the factory presets to be decent when working with most singers who just need a little pitch centering to tighten things up. The mic modeller is nice, the gate/limiter excellent. I like this unit as a nice channel strip insert,.

One note, be sure to adjust your input gain on the unit! The AT module needs a good input level to do its job. If its too low, you won't see the correction meter deflecting, and it will deflect wihen you have proper levels.

Overall, a great value. On the down side, I wish it had more presets. 100 would have been nice, 35 is not quite enough in a fast moving set list.

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

Lacks xlr ins and outs on the back. only one xlr in on the front which is less than ideal location for live use. I expect better on a rack mount item. For me I put this in the toy category. fun to play around with at home.

        This Product Does not Disappoint

        By Timothy Maines

        from Potomac, MD

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

I have been on the fence for about a year now trying to figure out which vocal processor would fit my home studio best. On the journey I considered various TC Helicon products as well as this processor. With the recent price drop I finally landed on TA-1VP given and all I can say is WOW, what bang for the buck. Out of the box you notice how solidly it is made. It's a tank like much of the other Tascam stuff. I plugged it in and was then off and running without any problems. If you are looking for a unt that does not require prior signal processing knowledge then this unit may not be as intuitive as you may like and the manual won't be tremendously helpful without that knowledge. If you have the knowledge then the unit and manual are as intuitive as the day is long. This is a humble and natural sounding processor and not a glitzy and over produced and sometimes unnatural sounding product like the TC stuff is so it is best to think about this as a straight forward no nonsense channel strip that happens to also have basic Autotune pitch correction, some Mic Modeling (not as much as the full version of Mic Modeling) and great dynamics processing. The sound that comes out of this thing is outstanding and my vocals popped right to the front of my mix easy peasy. This box is very musical and won't get in your way as it is super easy to dial in. The Autotune does the job as designed and gives you handsome pitch corrected vocals. It will not however give you all the electronica processing that the uninspired seek (does anyone under 25 sing au natural anymore?). The analog tube modeling rocked and the mic modeler made my Shure Beta 58a sounded like a high quality large diaphragm condesnor mic. The dynamics more than handled my sometimes aggressive phrasing and kept things smoothe. In the end I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. In fact, this is the best purchase I have made in years. A one line synopsis: this unit is exceptionally high on quality albeit without any unnecessary frills to keep you sounding like yourself rather than everyone else.

        nothing to boast about

        By John Herlihy

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

I bought this because of the great reviews I read. I bought this and a TC Helicon voicelive rack. The TC helicon totally puts this unit to shame. The TC helicon sounds great, and is very easy to figuire out with so many more options. This TA-1VP was very difficult to figuire out and the manual did not help much. I spent about 2 hours trying to get the sound right, and I could not get it to sound good at all. It is possible I needed to spend more time trying to learn it - but the TC helicon I bought was very easy to use,and the manual with it made everything clear. The TC helicon does cost much more, but to me it is worth the difference!

Auto-Tune not the same on hardware rack unit as plug-in

        By PETE JOHNSON

Comments about Tascam TA-1VP Vocal Processor with Antares Auto-Tune:

If you are expecting the same performance as the plug-in, dont bother with ordering this unit. Taking this unit back to the store next week, not going to bother with live autotune. There seems to be a defect with the hardware firmware on this effect, crackles and pops.
