DP-008 - No brainer purchase!

By Scotty Mayhaw

from Texas

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I purchased the DP-008 as an upgrade to my DP-004. Iۡm not going to list the features since they can be found on this website or the Tascam website. I recorded over 90+ songs on my DP-004 and really needed the extra tracks to help round out my music. I could successfully mix 6 tracks into my DP-004 and still have it sound good, any more bounces than that and you lose control over the final mix. The DP-008 basically works and records the same way as the DP-004, but the few software changes, reverb, EQ, and 8 tracks are a welcomed upgrade. The first song I recorded, I noticed a huge difference in sound quality over the DP-004. I think this is due to the fact that you can run xlrs directly to the DP-008, and I didnۡt have to bounce any tracks, and had full control over each track in the final mix. I ranted and raved about the DP-004, but this is an aspiring songwriterۡs dream machine that is super easy to use. I learned to use the DP-004 in about 30 minutes, and the DP-008 is just as easy to use. The DP-008 Manual has step by step instructions to get you started recording fast. Donۡt get me wrong the DP-004 is a great little machine; I still have mine, and use it for recording band practices and song ideas as they hit me. As for the DP-008, I have had people ask me what studio I recorded in, and I just have to laugh. If I have to criticize, when you go to backup a song or export the master, you have to re-name it every time, not a real problem, but just an inconvenience. Also, for the money they should supply the AC adapter, you really need to purchase one if you plan to use this a lot. Having battery power is great for recording on the fly, and one of the key selling points of this recorder, I have been able to get about 8-10 hours out of a set of batteries. Exporting and Backing up songs eats batteries fast. The only real thing I could ask for as an improvement is a separate EQ knob for each channel, but then the box would be bigger, and probably cost more. This was a no brainer purchase for me. I am 100% satisfied with Tascam and the DP-008.

The Bomb!!!

By Neo Soul

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

The Tasco DP-008 is basically the DP-004 with 4 additional tracks and the abillity to add effects to each track. The backlit display is an added plus which I personally am glad they added. The XlR Mic inputs with phantom power just exspands this power house. The DP-008 still runs on 4 AA batteries and the 008 now comes with a 2Gb SD card instead of one. All in all the Tascam DP-008 gives you all the features of the -004 and it's big brother's in a nice portable enclosure at an excellent price plus it sounds amazing, I Love It!!!!

VERY PLEASED!!!

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I purchased this unit this evening and had a song recorded & mastered in 30 minutes - and believe me, I am not technically savvy! If you FOLLOW THE MANUAL it is almost impossible to get crossed up. This unit sounds fantastic! I recorded my Les Paul directly into it and it sounded like a beautiful tube amp. Of course, it was a clean signal but didn't sound cheesy AT ALL. I laid down a drum track with a cheesy Yamaha keyboard first, then the rhythm track and finally the lead - WOW! The drum track even sounded decent (it also had a bass line accompanying it). The built-in stereo mics are excellent also - very sensitive and dynamic. I have an Alesis SR-18 drum machine on order and I can't wait to hear what my tracks will sound like with that! If you are looking for a professional sounding recording in an easy to use unit at a great price, look no further!

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

When I mean this is it...I mean THIS IS IT. Ive never owned or worked any track or recording devices. It didnt take me long to figure it out. I would recommend that YOU DO read instruction manual, because if you dont (like I did at first) you will have a hard time. But its as easy as figuring out a new cell phone.Instructions are easy to follow,(i was just too excited!! The Sound quality and effects are grrreat, and IT DOES sound as good or even better than some recording studios ive worked with. I did a lot of research on the best, easiest, and affordable recording device for months and everytime I would look and compare I always came back to this one. This is the best decision ive ever made as far as recording. oh and transfering the files to pc and burning to cd is sooo eazy. Look no further...THIS IS IT!!!!

Worth the money

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I have been looking to buy a multi-track recorder for a few years now. After talking to a person at Guitar Center, he convinced me to buy the Tascam DP-008. Took it home, read the Quick Start Guide and within 45 minutes I recorded guitar and keyboard tracks. (very easy) I took it back to Cleveland to record band practice, and the guys were blown away. They could not believe the sound quality that came out of this unit just using the built in mikes. Buy the power adapter. Good batteries only last 3 to 4 hours max. Thanks Tascam and Guitar Center.

Easy to use!

By Singer/Songwriter

from Chesterfield, MI

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I love this thing. I've been writing songs for many years. I started using a minidisc and recorder. Then Ipod with voice recorder. Then PC with Cubase. Too complicated and stationary. Tried the Micro BR Boss Recorder. It is way too complicated. There's so many menues for everything. The batteries on the BR drain very quickly. This Tascam DP-008 is amazing. It uses very little battery power. There are knobs for everything. It's so easy to use and it has everything you could need to write songs on the spot where ever you go. I recommend this to all singer/songwriters. This is going with me everywhere. The only add on I'd like to see is an onboard compressor. It has an onboard eq.

simple operation/great audio

By David from Jacksonville

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I purchased the Tascam DP-008 as a portable backup to my much larger Tascam 2488. The DP-008 is very well built, and very simple to use. It reminds me of the old Tascam 4-track Portastudio cassette recorders. Simple, solid, and great audio replication in a very portable package.

Tascam DP-008

By Rusty Duck

from Knoxville Tennessee

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

This is an outstanding product. If you are thinking of buying the 4 track I suggest you spend a little extra and get the 8. The Dp-008 does not come with an AC adapter. If you can buy it when you buy your recorder you will be doing yourself a favor as this device eats batteries like a '62 Cadillac eats gas. Battery consumption is the only fault I can find with the DP-008. It is otherwise an extremely good recorder and lives up to it's abilities that Tascam claims.

DP-008 is EASY to use!

By Brian

from Oswego, IL

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

I just did my first tracking session with my new DP-008, and I could not believe how easy this thing was to use. I've from the cassette 4-track generation, and have had less than stellar luck with recording software in the past, so I was looking for something with more of a traditional (knobs & buttons) interface. The DP-008 caught my eye because it was feature rich: onboard reverb & EQ, onboard condenser mikes, backlit display, USB connectivity. On top of all of that, there is an included sample track that allows you to practice mixing down a finished track to your liking... hours of fun with that one. (Note: make sure you also buy the power adapter (not included) because this thing does suck through AA's in no time.) This was a great purchase; in hindsight, I'm very glad I went with this one over the DP-004, which I was also considering... the 008 is $100 more, which seems like a lot, but the 008 has a LOT more features (and 4 extra tracks!) Nice work, Tascam!

Great Investment

By T Alfred

from Bracey, VA

Comments about TASCAM DP-008 8-Track Digital Portastudio:

For two hundred and change this is the best route to take for home recording in my opinion. Very user friendly, the DP-008 works more like its tape recording predecesors than overloaded DAW computer programs. Not much of a learning curve to have to get over, just set it up and play. My only recomendation would be to get the power adapter (or do a little research and find one comparable) because this thing will drain batteries like Forest Gump drained Dr. Peppers.
