This thing is way better than the original. The new design gives a plus in lens protection. The other thing I like is that you can bypass the effects and the tuner is very accurate. The only minus is that you need to order the adapter for it and you can do so by doing it online. Do what I did and have done rush delivery so you can started on tunes. It's always nice to have something like this to learn tunes as opposed to tab or regular notation. I would highly recommend this if you want to build your ear.

The software function is great for setting tempo, looping etc. However the hardware is less than desirable. I have had mine less than a year and the output and headphones jacks no longer provide stereo sound. Additionally, the volume control is stuck on a medium setting. I would and do not recommend this unit for anyone especially a beginning guitarist. Not worth the money. I have switched to a Boss unit that costs more but has a 3 year warranty and no known hardware issues.

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

Got this unit over 7 years ago, from guitar Center in Fresno, Ca. and it still works great. It has a metronome, tuner, different effects combinations, features to let you play along with your CD's, and with the loop function, you can loop sections of a song five seconds with a momentary footswitch. Say you wanted to lean an Yngwie Malmsteen or Dragon Force solo, note for note, no problem, you can slow it down with out losing pitch. You could get every nuance from your favorite player and more easily assimilated into your style of playing. You may have to add more distortion from the guitar into the input section, if you're into Metal. This is a valuable learning to that is essential to all guitarists, no matter what level they are at. Here are the reasons I'm giving this unit only four stars 1. It didn't come with a power supply. 2. Use batteries, it will only last two to three hours. 3. The effects sound great, but it should have had a noise gate in the effects modules. 4. There is lots of hiss and feedback at loud volumes. The cure, power conditioning and a hush unit. 5. When you reduce the speed below 30%, some CD's sound "wobbly", on some they don't 6. The Distortion is not strong enough for any Metal Head .... the cure add a medium distortion after the guitar before going into the input of this unit. Other than that, it's an awesome learning tool ..... Wish I had this when I was a beginner !!!!

Limited Audio Spectrum

By StratoMaster

from Main / Iowa

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

Let's clear something up : some reviews report that the quality of this unit is bad when a CD is slowed way down. This audio quality is NOT due to the Tascam. It is because CDs are recorded at low digital resolution (16/44.1). The effect is as if you are listing to the music through a fan. As for the GT-2 this unit functions nicely as described but there is little to no bass response in the audio spectrum. There are no tone controls to adjust this. Don't let this stop you from buying this very useful item.

Simply GREAT to learn another players style

By gerorge archer

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

I have used 2 of these in my life, one was a teacher's the other was a bass player's (yes they make a special unit for bass), and they are God send to slowing down the most elaborate solos so YOU can learn them note for note, by listening! Do I OWN one, I will this week! Every player SHOULD get one.

GOOD PRODUCT

By Bill

from RISING SUN ,MD.

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

This trainer is great for learning riffs, changes, and hooks. The "computer interface" is easy to use once you slip around a little bit. If you are required to learn a lot of tunes quickly I recommend this. I got the trainer and use the heck out of it.

Tascam CD-GT2

By BobDWilliams

from Woodbridge, Virginia

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

I love my Tascam CD-GT2. The easy to use great features makes this the best trainer on the market. The ability to slow down the song without a key change is fantastic! I learned incredibly hard guitar licks by carefully listening to each note in the song. Then I practiced with the song up to speed. Iۡve had it for over about one month and I love it!. I didnۡt read the manual; I just plugged it in and got started. The dual-purpose control buttons on GT2 is much easier to use than their previous model. The menu driven controls are simple and intuitive, once you played with them for a few minutes. The display serves to guide you through the menus easily. The CD-GT2 is a great tool, at a great price, and a MUST HAVE if you are serious about taking your guitar playing to the next level. I definitely recommend buying it! BobDWilliams

Sweet

By dekrev

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

This thing really works... Slow it down - take your time - I spend about an hour a day on this thing since purchase - its pretty decent and the on board effects are pretty good - I started clean with the amp plugged in... now I just go straight to the unit... I burned a few cd's of my own rhythms and can change tempo and speed practicing fills and leads... its pretty sweet... Get the AC adapter... batteries last about 5 hours or so.

great tool

By Terry Mceachern

from Springtown, Texas

Comments about TASCAM CD-GT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer:

This is a great learning tool that I wish I'd bought years ago.It does everything it is advertised to do; change pitch and tempo while staying on key.The only reason I gave this a 4 star rating instead of 5 is because the 4 AA batterys only lasted 2 to 3 hours. I highly recommend purchasing the optional power supply.
