The TASCAM US-600 6-in/4-out USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface is the perfect choice for portable recording of multiple sources from your laptop computer. Four high-definition XLR microphone inputs include phantom power for detailed recording with condenser microphones. All channels can be passed to your computer with 96kHz/24-bit audio resolution.
Each input on the US-600 uses an XLR/TRS combo jack to support microphone or line level sources and includes a signal/clip LED to help you set your input level. Input 1 has an instrument-level switch for direct recording of guitar or bass, and a direct monitor path allows musicians to hear their performance without a delay from the computer. On the rear panel, the US-600 includes a pair of unbalanced outputs, MIDI input and output and a stereo S/PDIF digital in and out.
A copy of Cubase LE5 is included—the latest version of Steinberg's 48-track workstation software. VST plug-in support, automated mixing and MIDI tracks allow you to craft large productions without adding any other software. If you want to use your own software, the US-600 supports most Mac and Windows software such as Logic Pro, Live, Nuendo, Digital Performer, Fruity Loops, and Pro Tools 9.

I am a beginner recorder/ music producer and I needed a solid audio interface to record my stuff. The US-600 more than fits the bill. The four input jacks are more than I could ever use at one time and you can easily produce a studio-quality product right on your computer. I dislike the lack of an on/ off switch, but if you remember to unplug it, then you're fine. Haven't tried the MIDI input/output yet or the L/R In jacks for the monitors, but I can't imagine they will be that bad. I use it in conjunction with Garageband and it works perfectly. This is the best value out there. Don't settle for less. Buy this. You will not regret it.
I have gone through my fair share of both USB and FireWire interfaces in the last few years and this one is by far the best. The clarity is fantastic, set up took less than 5 minutes and I can't stop recording since I did so. 1/4 outputs for the monitors would be nice but that is my only caveat. If you run your mixes through a board with stereo outs then you won't even need all four inputs. It weighs virtually nothing and it looks great next to my board and preamp. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.
This is the first audio interface I have purchased, and I must say I am pleased with the product.
Since this interface is so new, there wasnt much info to go off of, so I am writing this review to help others out who may be considering this device.
I wanted to get something that met the following criteria:
1. I needed 4 XLR inputs, as I want to use it to eventually record my acoustic drum set.
2. I wanted simultaneous 24bit multiple recording capabilities.
3. I wanted XLR inputs, direct 1/4 line inputs, and midi inputs to handle the variety of connections for the musical equipment I have.
4. I needed something in the $200 range.
This thing fits the bill nicely. I even used the Easter Coupon, so I got it for the right price.
I am using this interface with Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 Pro. The installation was very easy. Just open the box, unpack contents, insert CD into computer (I have installed the drivers on Windows Vista and Windows 7 without any issues) then plug in the USB cable when indicated. When I have it plugged in, and open Sonar, the interface is right in the input options, and I can select Tascam US-600 for mono right, mono left, and stereo.
The construction is solid, although it is mostly plastic. I would prefer a metal case, but I dont plan on dropping it.
Here are a few con's that I have already noticed:
There is no power button. I would rather leave it plugged in, and flip a switch, than plug / unplug the power adapter every time I start / stop using the device.
The knobs on the front have black plastic coating. It would have been very nice for them to have used rubber instead.
They are close together, and you dont really get a good grip to dial in your gain.
Other than that, I am very pleased with this audio interface. I have not tried to monitor my input through the computer to see what the lag looks like, but there are settings in the driver software to adjust the buffer size, which increases or decreases lag, so at least you have options there.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this product.
I am currently running an e609 mic through it for my guitar, bass, and blues harp cabs, and it works great for all of those applications. I am also using a MXL 144 ribbon mic, and I may need to get a pre amp, as I need to crank the gain all the way up in order to achieve the volume range I am looking for in my software. It barely touches the red in the meter, so I guess that works just fine. I know ribbon mic's usually need a lot of gain to get them going.
I have not tried the Cubase LE5, as I am using a fully featured DAW suite.
