The Tascam US-122 MKII seamlessly continues the worldwide success of its predecessors, the US-122 and US-122L, offering improved recording quality from a USB MIDI interface further reduced in size. Since it doesn't require an additional power supply, this portable audio interface is perfect for creating stereo recordings with a laptop computer wherever you go. Or use it to substitute the on-board soundcard of your Windows or Macintosh computer to play back music or video files with better sound quality.
XLR microphone inputs with switchable phantom power and high-quality preamps are the basis for good-sounding recordings while input signals can be listened to by headphones with zero latency. Line-level sources or an instrument can be connected as well. The Tascam US-122 MKII has a mono switch, one MIDI input and one MIDI output, and a line output on RCA connectors.
The US-122MKII USB MIDI interface supports sample rates up to 24-bit/96kHz at resolution. While commercial audio CDs are produced at 44.1 kHz/16-bit, this interface offers you more than double the sample rate which means more detail for your recordings. (If you need four instead of two channels of simultaneous recording or playback and an additional digital I/O, have a look at the Tascam.

I picked this up at a GC store and was able to produce a solid sounding recording with less than solid microphones. It's very easy to use especially if you have a Mac; plug and play with GarageBand once you've installed the drivers. If you do buy this, and are running Mac OS X Lion, you will need to download the latest drivers for it from the TASCAM site as the drivers on the disk are out of date. The Cubase software that came with mine was a little annoying so that might be a hindrance if you are using Windows or don't want to use GarageBand, but with patience I'm sure anyone can figure it out. Aside from that, this is a great product that will suit your needs if you want to do full-band demos or to record ideas, etc.
I love this! It is great When I record. It Only Has a few jacks so you cant record everybody at the same time but who says you cant record one track at a time. It takes a little while to install but it is worth it! Pure AWESOMENESS is all i have to say!
I've had this for about 8 months and I have recorded multiple good quality songs with it. It has a durable build! You don't have much control over the qaulity. In fact, if you don't have a pretty high end microphone or instrument to use with it, it wont sound great. It has a ton of hiss. It does it with multiple different mics and instruments, so i assume it is the intrerface. If it werent for creativity and good software this probably wouldnt be great for someone who is experienced in making quality recordings. As for me this is what I learned on and it is great for that because it is easy to use and it is simple. It has good features but is still very limited. If it's your first one, and you have a tight budget, I would suggest it. However, you might quickly find yourself wanting an upgrade!
