Tascam FW1082
The TASCAM FW-1082 Audio/MIDI Interface and Control Surface from TASCAM not only provides tons of audio and MIDI I/O to small studios, but offers a control surface with moving-faders for a previously unheard-of price. The FW-1082 features 10 inputs, including four balanced XLR mic inputs with phantom power. Two MIDI inputs and outputs are also included, plus S/PDIF digital I/O. Eight channel strips each feature a 60mm touch-sensitive moving fader and select/solo/mute buttons, and a moving master fader is also provided. The FW-1082 includes the latest TASCAM software bundle: Cubasis LE 96kHz/48-track recording software, GigaStudio 3 LE streaming sampler and Nomad Factory plug-in demos.
The FW-1082 is a great choice for small studios, whether someone is just starting out or if they're upgrading their equipment. Its four microphone inputs, two with analog insert jacks, have phantom power for professional condenser microphones. Four additional line inputs and a S/PDIF stereo input add up to 10 inputs simultaneously, each at 96kHz/24-bit audio resolution. Two MIDI inputs and outputs are provided for 32 channels of MIDI synth playback or control. The control surface has nine 60mm touch-sensitive moving faders for silky-smooth control over channel level, pan or aux settings. Four encoders are also available for mix control, as well as transport and jog/shuttle controls. Stereo monitoring is included, and the FW-1082 even mixes signals internally for stand-alone use.

Does it all. Great Value. Cool.
The Tascam FW-1082 gives you a high quality audio interface, a control surface, hardware mixer, and midi interface all in one unit.
Its built tough and the controls are well laid out. Motorized faders work super. Overall sound quality is great (pre-amps are top notch). The only negative is the lack of LCD/LED scribble strips. For those who can place the FW-1082 right in front of the computer monitor, the included SoftLCD software works great as a scribble strip.

On Point and on the money!
I just bought this a few days ago after doing a lot of reading on it. Some felt the set up took some time, but I literally set it up in under an hour. Just read the set up guide and manual before hand and little directions like "reboot, before connecting after installing software" will save you questions and time. Otherwise, this baby is so sweet. No more mouse and track pad mixing. You can also control Final Cut which is reason #999 why I bought it since I video edit also, but I haven't tried it with FC yet. Will get back to you on that one. But it works wonderfully with Logic! Also, when I bought it direct from the store in Brooklyn it was $499 not $599 which was just icing on the cake. It is a nice controller to work your way up to a full mix board, if that's your goal; otherwise, whatever man the thing gets the job done whether working with Logic, Live, Reasons and Wave files! I am excited beyond the 1000 word limit GC gives you to review. :D Get it and enjoy!

AWESOME INTERFACE
I must say this has to be one of the best interfaces for the price. You can't find an audio interface/DAW controller for this price. Install was EASY! Sonar integration was a snap with the included sonar plugin. I was mixing in no time. Definately recommend this to everyone.

Great Solution! Great Price!
This is a great product, M-audio offers a similar control surface/mixer at a lot more money. I bought mine slightly used and in great condition. All the parts on this seem to be quality, metal is used on a good portion of it. The sides are plastic and probably weakest part on it. My only real complaint is that the main outs are a little more noisy than i like them to be, but then again i bought this unit used and it is hard to say if all are like this (the hiss that comes in isn't really that big of a deal) The configuration of the audio I/Os is kind of funky but nothing that can't be dealt with. There seriously is not a better buy if you are serious about starting to record. For a small studio this is a great solution, get some preamps and your ready to roll.
The controls are intuitive and really easy. Motorized faders are cool, I don't really need this feature but cool non the less.
If your in the market for a audio interface that will get more than 2 ins/outs to your computer based daw, this is a great solution. I can keep my drum machine, synth, and preamps all plugged in and just go have fun instead of "setting everything up." This controller has its downsides but it's ups outweigh them by a lot! Buy one already and make some great music.

Outstanding product
This is an awesome mixing console! I use it with much delight. The set up needs are as follows: Use a good firewire card, get the latest drivers(mine were included), make all the configurations to the application you are using i.e. audio ASIO config and midi input output settings. The motorized faders are flawless. Also the faders are touch sensitive with regards to track selction. Jog wheel is a time saver, no more mouse manipultions. Of course transport buttons are a plus. This unit will save you CPU power on the front end, thus freeing up speed for plugins in the application. I also have the SPDIF inputs filled from my other pc which has a Delta 24/96 card in it. This is a great solution for home recording needs. The board come with phantom power, but I prefer to use a seperate mic preamp.
