The TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder brings high-resolution recording to a compact, affordable package. It offers up to 96kHz/24-bit WAV or MP3 recording to SD cards, and recordings can be transferred to your computer through high-speed USB 2.0.
A dual recording feature has 2 modes. Mode 1 records a copy of your audio at a lower level, so if the level suddenly jumps you have a backup instead of a distorted performance. Mode 2 records 2 separate stereo tracks at once, one from the built-in mics and a second from an external mic or from the line in, which could be a send from your mixing board or any other line-level stereo source. The resulting stereo tracks can be mixed together on the DR-2d or imported into your DAW for further editing.
Record using the new built-in condenser microphones or plug in your own. You can slow down recordings without changing the pitch, and there's even a metronome and built-in speaker. The DR-2d provides hours of recording time using a pair of AA batteries, making it the perfect partner for songwriting, live performance, rehearsal or home studio recording.

This little machine right here is a great device! It records in great tone, You can slow down songs if you want to learn them or need to play them at a lower speed. It is great to carry in your case and record things quick while on the road. I recommend this product 100%
I use it for mixdown from analog tape. The better the resoution the better, and 24 bit 96K is fab. I also use it to experiment with mp3 at different resolutions. The size lets me listen to me when I do my workout. For the money, I would have been stupid not to buy this. It does go through batteries. The power supply works perfectly.

Read this review if you are concerned about battery life!
I?m going to start off by addressing the battery life to the Tascam DR-2d. Many of the write ups indicate that the battery life is poor. Out of the box they are correct. I found with Ni-MH batteries I would get a little over an hour. However, if you go on to the Tascam web site you will find that they have three up-grades to the firmware. If you read the PDF file on the first up-grade it addresses the battery life. I loaded the latest firmware and now I?m able to get about 6 hours of use, which is very acceptable. Recording I have the impression that it records to low in the line level input. However,I have a tone generator and set for 0 db it records digitally at -20 db which is equal to 0db in analog. And there is head room to record at a higher level. I?m use to recording with the Roland Edirol R-09. It seems to have more head room. So far I?m very pleased with the product I have owned it for about 3 weeks. The menu is easy to use and has loads of features. I have recorded music and audio mostly line level input. Mainly off of a mixer/power amp. I hope this helps in making your decision.
