The rugged TASCAM DR-100 offers high-end recording features to musicians and engineers who demand more from their portable recorder. It features four built-in microphones—two cardioid and two omnidirectional, with analog limiting and filtering for great-sounding recordings. A pair of XLR microphone inputs with phantom power accommodates pro-grade condenser microphones. Line in and out connectors are also provided.

The DR-100 includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, but can also be powered by AA batteries or an optional AC adapter. A built-in speaker allows instant playback, and the metal case includes a tripod mounting threads for recording flexibility. A wireless remote control is also included for remotely triggering the recording.

  • Ok, Looks great and well...

    Yea, great look and easy to use. Lets start with the negative stuff: The onboard mic's are trash. Thin, Tinny hollow sounding and DON'T touch THE UNIT! This just peaks the onboard mics and all the holding and handling just over powers the recording. Another thing, you have to make sure SDHC cards are gonna work in this unit. It came with a 2G, I used a 8G and it worked, but took forever and all the battery power till the end to format the card. Tascam has a list of cards, use it! It also DOES NOT display in real time what you have left on the larger cards. It just displays for the 2G even if you have a bigger card. When you reach the end of the so called 2G, it will start over if you have a bigger card. But it will not erase unless you tell it to. On the better side: I used it for a recording of the band I was on the road with and it out performed all my expectations WHEN USING AN XLR CONDENSER MIC ( The Sterling 55 ) WOW! I have to say It was taken by surprise. I finally got a recording that was pro sounding and very pleasant to listen to. I was playing bass ( Fender Custom & SWR amp with 4x10 Ampeg ) And What I heard on stage played back exactly the same when I got back home to listen to the recording. All the tone and everything around it was there. My guitarist was please also. His sound was right in there also. SO, if your just looking for a little way to record your band, I see no harm in trying this unit. It will do it with a set of good external Mic's. DON'T use the mic's on the unit! Hope that helps anyone that has an interest in this thing.

    Purchased this item for recording piano practice sessons. maybe capture some ideas that otherwise would escape my memory. the functions work well and are easy to manage. the menu structure is a bit awkward. I am also using it to capture live performances of my sons marching band field shows. the wind filter is a must for outside recording. overall I think this was a good choice. The internal speakers are junk. I use headphones to check my recordings. Also, I wanted the 48k sample rate that some of the other units on the market don't offer. I also plan to use some phantom powered mics & wireless for some video field recording.

  • Looks Pretty - Has big Issues

    This is the problem with e-commerce. You cannot find an item you want in a store in order to check it out. So you go on line to read glowing reviews (probably written by the manufacturers own marketing department) and you roll the dice. The Tascam DR-100 looks beautiful and is easy to use. But when coupled with a Sennheiser 416 it must be on the highest gain with the input level nearly max'd out. What were the Tascam engineers thinking? That everybody would fall in love with the built in microphones )that are more adept at picking up the slightest touch to the recorder) and choose them over professional microphones? I'm praying for a Firmware update to enable this recorder's big feature (XLR Mic inputs) to be useful by connecting the recorder with professional microphones.
